Sea Filled Tears and Comfort

On the ocean floor was a sobbing Noel Gruber, clutching in his hand the item fallen from the surface. By his side was his two friends, Savannah and Ocean.

They were severely worried about Noel, it wasn’t every day that their friend found a trinket and started hysterically crying over it.

They were doing their best to comfort him and offer him support. Savannah was drawing circles on his back while Ocean hummed the tune to his favourite song— Love, Me Normally.

They couldn’t ask him what had happened until he calmed down, because if they did he would be impossible to understand. Rambling and crying was not a good mix.

They knew Noel’s cheer up routine extremely well, just usually they already knew the cause of why he was breaking down. This time it was completely unexpected.

His tears started to slow down, and he wiped his eyes aggressively.

“Sorry,” he spoke softly.

Ocean stopped humming the moment she heard his voice.

“It’s okay, we just want to make sure your are okay.” Savannah said quickly. She stopped rubbing his back and put an arm around him and squeezed.

“Do you mind telling us what happened?” Ocean asked, getting closer to Noel.

“This,” he held out the item to Ocean and Savannah. “It belonged to a boy, a boy I saw yesterday.”

Silence, they were looking at him to show they were acknowledging his words. They didn’t want to interrupt him in fear that it’d be harder for him to spit out if they had.

He looked to both of them and took a deep breath.

“He was pretty, handsome, strong build, had a smile that sparkled.” He pondered the item, rubbing his fingers across the letters of his name. “Mischa Bachinski, the boy from a ship, a human.”

Ocean let out a loud gasp, “Noel! A human?! No way, you’re mother is going to have our heads if she knew you went near a ship, much more if she knew you fell in love with a flipping human!!” There was panic in her voice and face. She was no longer right by Noel but more in front of him, moving frantically.

“It’s not love,” he said quietly. “And don’t you think I’m already aware my mother would kill me for going near a ship?” He said with a stern look, but there was tension and fear in his eyes.

Savannah was rubbing his back again, “Mischa, huh? You like him?” She was trying to change the subject back to Noel and not what his mother would do to them if she found out.

“I guess so, but—“ he sighed. “This item has inscribed in it that he has a lover, more likely than not, a female lover. I have no hope. Even if I did have any hope, like he liked men, it’d be pointless. I’m trapped here forever, bound to the sea, whilst he is above, exploring the surface.” He put his hands in his arms, feeling hopeless.

Savannah hugged Noel instinctively, motioning with her arm for Ocean to join. She rolled her eyes, still not happy with Noel for going near a ship and seeing Mischa, and hugged him as well.

The group hug lasted for about three minutes, it was warm and comfortable. The three of them really had love for each other and it showed. Noel could never express his appreciation for his two friends. Sure, Ocean could be a dick sometimes but he still loved her.

His friends made being bound to the sea bearable.
