Beginning of a Tail

Prince Noel Gruber of Atlantica, the only son to his widowed mother, Queen Estella. Before his father’s passing she was a very loving mother, Noel and her were very close. After his death, everything changed. She became cold and distant, putting up strict rules all around Alantica, burying herself in royal duties.

Noel just wanted independence, to be free. To see the world, not just the sea. The ground, the grass, the sky, everything. He wanted to feel the wind in his hair, not the waves.

When he looked down he saw his red tail, it was a reminder that he will never walk on the ground. A reminder that he will be forever strapped to the sea.

It was late, the only time Noel felt free to do what he wanted. Not under constant watch of the kingdom.

He snuck out of his room, swimming through the cold waters. He was heading towards his hidden cove, a cove full to the brim of human artifacts.

Humans were careless, often dropping their possessions into the waters. Which was lucky for Noel, at night he’d often go scour the sea trying to find new trinkets to add to his collection. They made him feel ever so slightly closer to the human world.

As he approached the cove something was different, the moonlight wasn’t coming through to the waters. Something was blocking it, causing a heavy shadow to dawn over him.

When he looked up he saw a large human ship. Noel was told to at all costs avoid ships, if they saw a merperson they would shoot their deadly weapons at them without a second thought. Humans killed what they didn’t understand, that’s how he lost his father.

This was Noel’s first time ever seeing a ship himself. It was beautiful, he could admire the craftsmanship. He was drawn in a trance by his admiration for the human world and the things they’ve created.

Before he knew it he was at the surface of the water. Peaking his head above. Too late to go back now, he might as well observe the humans.

There was a few people on the boat, maybe about 20. He was closest to of two people, they were chatting. Well, one was talking and the other was making signals with his hands, whichever one wasn’t being supported by these stick things under his arms.

The taller of the two boys was handsome, he looked strong and beautiful. He was laughing at something the other person said, it made Noel’s heart skip a beat.

The boat started swaying as the waves picked up pace.

Noel heard someone yell, “Mischa, a storm is heading our way!” And with that, the pretty boy ran out of Noel’s view.

Mischa, his name is Mischa.
