Chapter Five
Cindy Moon, Betty Brant, and Abe Brown were sitting at lunch with the trio of Peter Parker, Michelle Jones, and Ned Leeds. It was an unusual sight, the trio always seemed to be tightly knit and although Peter was very welcoming, Michelle glared at everyone who tried to approach with an intent to take advantage of Peter’s nice nature, most of the school was afraid of her so even if they had good intentions they did not go near them.
But Cindy Moon walked over to their table to talk to Michelle about their upcoming decathlon competition and the others two followed. And once the conversation ended, they just stayed.
And that was how they occasionally began sitting with Peter Parker, Ned Leeds, and Michelle Jones.
And like any good, inspiring journalist, Betty Brant asked the questions that the people wanted to know.
“So, Peter, haven’t you noticed half of the school has been throwing themselves at you since you got here?”
“What, no they haven’t. Why would they do that?”
“You are hot, smart, funny, what do you mean why? For someone so smart, you are oblivious sometimes.”
“Oh,” Peter’s cheeks reddened, “I really hadn’t noticed.
Betty shook her head, “it’s a good thing you have friends like us to help you with that aspect. Now, who do you have your eye on?”
Peter started to laugh, dragging it out so long that the other es exchanged looks, wondering if the boy had gone insane.
“Sorry, it’s just I have a boyfriend already and he always says I’m so oblivious, he’s going to love this.”
“You have a boyfriend?” Cindy squealed, “was he from your old school? What’s his name?”
“No, I met him through my internship, his name is Harley. He’s the best,” he had a dopey smile on his face, the love he had for his boyfriend was clear. He tapped on his phone a few times before placing it on the table to show the others a picture of him smiling wide at the camera next to another ridiculously handsome boy staring at Peter with what could only be described as a look of awe and adoration, wearing the leather jacket they had seen on Peter before.
“That is Harley Kenner.” Betty blinked, “Peter, you’re dating a supermodel?”
She wouldn’t have believed it if it weren’t for the look on Harley’s face, no one could deny that he loved Peter to the moon and back.
“I wouldn’t say he’s a supermodel… yet.”
“Dude, he had millions of followers,” Ned said, staring at his phone, clearly having just looked the man up.
“I’m surprised you’re dating a model. I thought you would go for someone more brainy, like you.” MJ commented, the others nodded.
“Yeah, I mean you’re both hot, but what else do you have to talk about?”
“Hey, just because he’s a model doesn’t mean he’s stupid, he got into MIT for mechanical engineering. Modeling is just something he does because… well he was scouted a few years ago and decided to give it a shot. He thought he could make some extra cash, help his mom out, she’s a single parent and they’re both super stubborn and won’t accept help from others. So Harley started to do some jobs, he never thought it would turn out to be like this .”
“Wow, gorgeous, smart, famous, and a good person. Sounds like a catch.”
“He is,” Peter said with no room for argument.
“Well, I will warn everybody you’re off-limits.” Betty declared.
“Please don’t talk about who he is, we’re keeping it low-key so I can avoid the media.”
“Don’t worry, I promise I won’t.”
Betty kept her promise, rumors spread like wildfire that Peter was taken and that his partner was out of all their leagues. Everyone was disappointed, but no one was surprised. Of course, someone would have cuffed Peter Parker, but the question on everyone’s minds was ‘are they really worthy?’
And Harley, Harley found this whole thing hilarious.
“Of course, they were all flirting with you sweetheart, have you looked in the mirror?”
“Harls…”
“You're the fairest lady in the land Peter, get used to it. I'm glad your new classmates can recognize it, but you're mine darlin’.”
“Always,” he promised with a grin.
