Chapter 6
Maria pov
Maria wasn’t nervous about telling Fury what was happening but she wouldn’t lie when she says she hates the disappointed look Fury is giving her right at the moment was eating at her, he hadn’t said a word since they got in his office and every time she tried to talk he would shake his head no. Maria Hill could deal with a lot of things the looks she got this morning, aliens, crazy demi-gods but this was not one of those things she couldn’t handle Fury being disappointed in her broke her heart he was like the father she’s never had, she had a father but he wasn’t her father.
“You and Rogers?” Fury finally said
“Sir-” Maria was cut off by Fury,” You felt like you couldn’t tell me? When did this happen?” Maria could see the hurt in Fury’s eyes as he said those words, “Sir it’s not what it looks like-” Maria again got interrupted by Fury’s bitter, hurt laugh,” What’s not what it looks like? That you and Rogers had a kid and hid it. Then the other day she just burst into an important meeting clinging and wanting for her mother. So please Hill tell me what the fuck it doesn’t look like because I want to know.” Fury finished bitterly and if Maria wasn’t used to his cold, hard glare she would have shrunk in her seat.
“Sir, if you’ll let me finish that little girl is-”
“Your daughter.”
“That little girl is Natasha Romanoff.” Fury again laughed but it wasn’t with humor,” Do you expect me to believe that little girl is Natasha, my best agent.”
“She is Steve and the team found her at a Hydra base they somehow manage to de-age her and now she thinks me and Steve are her parents,” Maria explained relieved that she got it out.
“You think this is a joke Hill, Natasha has been missing for a month and you wanna spin that the kid that burst into my meeting yesterday is her and not your secret love baby with Rogers.” Maria, fed up with Fury, took out her phone and went into her phone gallery and clicked on one of the many photos of Natasha that she took yesterday,” Have a look sir and tell me that little girl doesn't look like Natasha Romanoff.” Maria said, handing the phone to Fury who took it after looking at her one more time before expecting the phone.
“Motherfuckers!!” Fury said as he looked at the pictures and even he couldn’t deny the fact that the little girl was a mini replica of Natasha.
“Steve said there was no machine or lab in the base so he and the other thinks she was moved. We only want to keep everything to a small group of people and maybe have FitzSimmons look into it.”
“Fine, but send me those pictures.” Fury said before turning away from Maria and Looking at the laptop.
“Of course, sir,” Maria said smirking as she left but her smirk didn’t last long as she saw shield agents quieting as she exited the office no doubt talking about the rumors and the scandal that occurred yesterday, but she knew no one would tell her anything directly to her face she was shield Ice queen after all and no one spoke up Commander Hill.
Steve pov
In the past 2 weeks, Natasha has been settling into the tower. She was energetic, to say the least, and was always moving around. Steve couldn’t keep up with her. It was impossible. Natasha loved to spend time with Tony and Bruce down at the lab (Steve was reluctant to let her go but she gave him the puppy eyes and he couldn’t say no), she also loved beating Clint in Mario kart (Like she used o when she was an adult), her and Thor had tea parties (Mainly because Thor lets her braid his hair. Which Thor wears proudly afterward.) But Steve loved when he and Natasha spent time drawing. She wasn’t any good but she was learning and Steve liked that they had time to bond and he didn’t want Natasha to go spend the next 2 weeks with Maria but that was the agreement and Natasha did miss Maria.
On Natasha first night back she didn’t have a nightmare but on her second she did and she woke up sobbing and asking for Maria so Steve called her when he couldn’t get Natasha to stop crying, Maria had worked Natasha through a breathing exercise and once Natash had fallen back asleep to Maria humming a song Steve apologized because it was late and he called her and she must’ve been sleeping but she waved him off and said it wasn’t a problem. Then for the rest of the 2 weeks, Natasha had just slept next to Steve. He knew it was a habit they would have to break but he liked knowing she felt safe around him.
They were packing Natasha’s bag for when she was staying with Maria and she wanted to bring everything but Steve told her that Maria would have toys for her and clothes but Natasja still wanted to bring some clothes with her and her favorite stuffed animal her Elephant which she names Elliot.
“Captain Rogers I would like to inform you that Miss Hill is here and waiting for you downstairs in the lobby,” Jarvis said, breaking Steve from his mental list he was checking as they were packing Natasha’s bag and Natasha rant of god knows what.
“Mommy’s here!!” Natasha screeched as she raced out of her room making Steve shake his head as he packed the last things into Natasha’s bag. By the time Steve went to the lobby, Natash was already telling Maria all about her week and how much fun she had, and Maria was nodding her head and smiling at the little redhead.
“Hey, you 2,” Steve said as he approached them
“Hey Steve, Natasha was telling me how she had fun this week,” Maria said, smiling at him and Steve’s heart fluttered Maria rarely smiled and when she did it didn’t last long but taking care of Natasha she smiled more often.
“Yeah but she mostly loves spending time with Tony and Thor who are her favorite uncles and she loves having Pepper do her hair,” Steve said Handing Maria Natasha’s bag
“Well, Fury knows and wants her to get some blood work done there looking into what you gave us. She’s also getting vaccinated today and then I have the week off to spend with her.”
“No!!! Mommy no shots.” Natasha wines
“Yes, baby you need to get shots so you don’t become sick,” Maria said as she fixed Natasha’s jacket.
“Mommy please!!” Natasha says, giving Maria the puppy eyes.
“Sorry baby but you have to, maybe they’ll give you a lollipop if your good,” Maria said which cause Natasha to stop pouting and it was adorable
“I’m sure the shots won’t be that bad,” Steve said
“Yes, they are.” Natasha protested
“The doctors will be very careful and I’ll be there.” Marai said
“I don’t want them to hurt me like before,” Natasha confessed as she hung her head. It made Steves blood boil at the thought of Natasha getting tortured.
“No one can hurt you here baby, you’re with Mommy and Daddy now and we’ll protect you.” Maria said as she gently picked up Natasha’s head giving her a warm yet reassuring smile.” You promise?” Natasha said as she looked at Maria,” I promise baby.” Maria said as she planted a kiss on Natasha’s forehead.
“I guess will see you in 2 weeks.” Maria said to Steve,” Before you go I wanted to tell you that Tony wants to have dinner with you and all of us to get to know you better. Natasha also doesn’t like to sleep alone due to the nightmares.” Steve saw Maria nodding, taking down all the information but he still saw the infusion on her face no doubt it is about the dinner.
“Stark already knows me.”
“He wants to know you personally.”
“He doesn’t trust me with Natasha.”
“It’s-”
“No, it’s okay we can set up dinner. See you around Steve.”
“Bye Daddy,” Natasha said as she waved back at him while he did the same and watched Natasha and Maria leave until they were out of sight. He stood there for a couple of minutes before turning and heading back upstairs. He was happy that Natasha was staying with Maria but he was going to miss her.
