Mumei is a god.

From humanity's perspective, this is supposed to be a really wonderful thing. She is a god. She can do whatever she wants, wherever she pleases. She can create things out of nothing. She can observe the little people from her little castle in the sky and make fun of them and ruin their lives and do higher being stuff that is surely cool and amazing and it's the best to be a god. Everyone wants to be a god.

And they're right. It's amazing to be a god.

Mumei is a god that doesn't live in a little castle in a sky, though. She can go wherever she wants, so she crashes her friends' domains and sleeps over at their little houses or their huge hollow eight balls or their wonderfully warm (cold) mediums. She doesn't really create anything, but that absolves her of responsibility. She can ruin people's lives and blame it on themselves, because as the goddess of humanity and knowledge, she's not in charge of them— they're in charge of her.

It just happens to be that she's in a position where she can pretend to have all the power over them.

Gura gives her a dubious look. "Is that how that works?"

"Yeah," Mumei says. She's sitting across a table from her and Kronii, whose puzzled expression delights her so much her feathers are fluttering. Ina is chuckling beside her. "You're in charge of me, too."

Gura raises an eyebrow. Mumei smiles.

"She's the goddess of civilization," Kronii corrects tersely. Gura blinks at her. "And that's not how that works."

Ina shrugs. "It's close enough."

Kronii gives her a look. "She's never ruined anyone's life."

That's not true. Mumei's lip twitches with the effort to not laugh. "Kronii."

"What—?"

Like she's mocking her, "Kronii. How would you know that?"

"What—?" Kronii laughs breathlessly, "I've known you for your whole existence—"

Mumei speaks over her. "You don't watch me all night and all day, so how would you know that?"

"—You've never even appeared before a human—"

"Excuse me! I appeared before Ame."

Kronii rolls her eyes. "Yeah, in my domain."

"That counts!"

"It counts." Ina smiles almost wearily. She looks amused as she lays back in a bending throne of tentacles, "I'd give you partial credit."

"A full point," Mumei contests. "I appeared before Gura. And a full bar of people."

"I'm not a human," Gura barks. Kronii gestures at her tail as Gura stares at her.

A tentacle slithers over Gura's head. "Humanity's an all-encompassing term."

"Thank you, Ina," Mumei says passionately.

"Either way," Kronii drawls, "that doesn't constitute ruining someone's life, eh?"

"If I told you what does, you'd yell at me."

Kronii and Ina laugh. Gura looks like she still wants a proper explanation, so Mumei stands and leans toward her, throat feathers fluffing. "It's really difficult to explain. I'll show you later, okay?"

Gura shrugs. "Okay."
