Tony
2011
Amy stood in the background, totally unnoticable as she watched Tony Stark fly around in his Iron Man suit. She still couldn't believe that he was a superhero. When he went missing a couple of years ago, she felt sick to her stomach. She had other things on her mind, like trying to greenlight the new Captain America exhibit at the Smithosian, her giant dog being locked in her apartment, and still trying to track down the Winter Solider who had been dormant for years. But one thing she never missed was the Stark Expo, that she'd been going to since the 1940s. She could still remember Bucky's arms around her, his amazement as Howard made a car fly, Steve sneaking off to join to the war.
"Tony! Tony! Tony! Tony!" people in the crowd around her chanted.
He landed in front of crowd, the Iron Man suit slowly dismantling itself.
"It’s good to be back. You missed me?"
"Blow something up!" a man called out, causing Amy to roll her eyes.
"I missed you too. Blow something up? I already did that. I’m not saying that the world is enjoying its longest period of uninterrupted peace in years because of me. I’m not saying that from the ashes of captivity, never has a greater phoenix metaphor been personified in human history. I’m not saying that Uncle Sam can kick back on a lawn chair, sipping on an iced tea because I haven’t come across anyone who’s man enough to go toe-to-toe with me on my best day."
"Jesus Christ," Amy muttered.
"I love you, Tony!"
"Please, it’s not about me. It’s not about you. It’s not even about us. It’s about legacy. It’s about what we choose to leave behind for future generations. And that’s why for the next year and for the first time since 1974, the best and brightest men and women of nations and corporations the world over will pool their resources, share their collective vision, to leave behind a brighter future. It’s not about us. Therefore, what I’m saying, if I’m saying anything, is welcome back to the Stark Expo." There was a big cheer from the crowd, minus Amy who stood with her arms crossed. "And now, making a special guest appearance from the great beyond to tell you what it’s all about, please welcome my father, Howard."
Amy stiffened up, looking at the screen, seeing Tony leave out of the corner of her eye. "Everything is achievable through technology. Better living, robust health, and for the first time in human history, the possibility of world peace. So, from all of us here at Stark Industries, I would like to personally introduce you to the City of the Future. Technology holds infinite possibilities for mankind, and will one day rid society of all its ills. Soon technology will affect the way you live your life every day. No more tedious work, leaving more time for leisure activities and enjoying the sweet life. The Stark Expo. Welcome."
There was ton of people in the Stark Expo, and Amy had her fill. Grabbing her purse, she headed towards the exit, bumping into somebody. "Mother fucker!" she cursed, bending down to pick up her files.
"Excuse me," the man said, bending down to help her pick up her files.
Amy looked up, coming face to face with her godson she hasn't seen since he was ten years old. "Thanks...Good expo by the way." Getting up, she took her books and files from Tony and headed out to leave.
"Wait...Ma'am?! Hey, lady!" Tony called out, getting stopped by the large crowd. There was something about her that seemed so familiar, but he couldn't place his finger on it. "Hey, nice to see you. All right. Thank you. I remember you."
"Tony, Tony!" people called.
Tony nodded, looking for the mystery woman. " Hey, hey."
"Call me," a woman desperately begged.
Happy Hogan, his personal security/body guard, came over and pushed people out of the way. "Hey, hey, hey, hey. Come on, come on."
"Hello. It would be a pleasure," Tony flirted. "Hey...Did you see a blonde woman?"
"What blonde woman? There's tons of blonde woman."
"White-blonde hair, about five foot six. I swear I've seen her before."
"Okay."
Tony patted the head of a small boy who was wearing a Iron Man helmet. "See you, buddy."
"This is Larry," Happy said, introducing Larry King.
Tony was still trying to find the woman. "Hey, the oracle of Oracle. What a pleasure. Nice to see you."
"Call me. Call me."
"Larry King."
Tony plastered on a smile, backtracking. "Larry! Larry. Yes, my people, my people."
"Come on, Tony. There we go," Happy sighed, finally getting the billionaire to the door.
"Very mellow."
"That wasn’t so bad."
"No, it was perfect. Did you find that girl?"
"No...I'm sorry, sir. Look what we got here, the new model."
Tony nodded, seeing an attractive woman standing by his sports car. "Hey, does she come with the car?"
"I certainly hope so. Hi," Happy grinned.
"Hi. And you are?"
"Marshal," the woman introduced.
"Irish. I like it."
"Pleased to meet you, Tony."
"I’m on the wheel. Do you mind? Where you from?"
"Bedford."
"What are you doing here?"
"Looking for you."
"Yeah? You found me. What are you up to later?"
"Serving subpoenas," Marshal smirked, handing Tony a letter.
He didn't take the letter. "Yikes."
Happy took it in his place. "He doesn’t like to be handed things."
Tony nodded. "Yeah, I have a peeve."
"I got it. You are hereby ordered to appear before the Senate Armed Services Committee tomorrow morning at 9 am."
"Can I see a badge?"
"You wanna see the badge?" Marshal asked.
"He likes the badge," Happy nodded.
Marhsal showed him her badge as Tony got behind the wheel of the car and started the engine.
"You still like it?"
"Yep." Tony closed his door as Happy got into the car. "How far are we from D.C.?"
"D.C.? 250 miles."
