Dangerous Liasons
Amy's stomach was turning as she glanced at the giant machine that her brother was gonna walk into. She was half listening as Stark was explaining what was gonna happen. "Oh god..." she moaned, seeing the needles.
"Don't worry, Starshine...Steve's gonna be fine," Howard said, patting her on the back.
"You better hope so, Stark...I swear," she sighed.
She saw Steve and Peggy enter, and the sickening feeling got worst. "Good morning," Dr. Erkshine said, shaking Steve's hand. There was a flash of light from a camera. "Please, not now."
"You sure you wanna do this?" Amy asked her brother.
"Yeah..." Steve nodded.
"Are you ready?" Dr. Erkshine asked. Steve nodded. "Good. Take off your shirt, your tie, and your hat." Steve did and got into the machine. "Comfortable?" Dr. Erksine asked.
Steve looked extremely nervous as he settled in. "It’s a little big. You save me any of that schnapps?"
"Not as much as I should have. Sorry. Next time. Mr. Stark, how are your levels?"
"Levels at 100%," Howard called out.
"Good," Dr. Erkshine said.
"We may dim half the lights in Brooklyn, but we are ready as we’ll ever be."
"Agent Carter? Don’t you think you would be more comfortable in the booth? Ms. Rogers?"
"Oh, yes. Of course. Sorry," Peggy muttered, heading up to the booth. Amy looked at Howard one last time with a death glare before following her friend up to the booth.
"I can't believe this is happening," Amy muttered.
"Do you hear me? Is this on?" Dr. Erkshine asked. "Ladies and gentlemen, today we take not another step towards annihilation, but the first step on the path to peace. We begin with a series of micro-injections into the subject's major muscle groups. The serum infusion will cause immediate cellular change. And then to stimulate growth, the subject will be saturated with Vita-Rays."
Amy watched as a nurse injected something in his arm. "That wasn’t so bad."
"That was penicillin. Serum infusion beginning in five, four, three, two, one." Amy was squeezing the chair as the serum was injected into Steve. "Now, Mr. Stark." The Pod moved upright, closing Steve within it. "Steven, can you hear me?"
"It’s probably too late to go to the bathroom, right?" Steve's voice echoed.
"We will proceed."
Amy's grip grew tighter and tighter as the levels increased. "That’s ten percent. Twenty percent. Thirty. That’s 40 %," Howard called out.
"Vital signs are normal."
"That’s 50 % Sixty. Seventy."
It was the moment that Steve started screaming that Amy was out of her chair and blinking into the room. "Howard!" she shouted.
"Shut it down!" Peggy shouted.
"Steven!" Dr. Erkshine shouted, knocking on the pod door.
"Shut it down!" Peggy shouted again.
"Kill the reactor, Mr. Stark! Turn it off! Kill it! Kill the reactor!"
"No! Don’t! I can do this!" Steve shouted.
"Eighty. Ninety. That’s 100 %!" Howard said.
Amy was barely breathing as the lights died down. "Mr. Stark?" Dr. Erkshine asked.
Howard opened the pod and Amy's jaw dropped. Instead of her big brother being shorter than her, he was now a lot bigger and more buffer than she was. Even buffer from Bucky! "Oh my fucking god..." she muttered.
"Steven. Steven," Dr. Erkshine said.
Amy rushed to her brother and helped him out. "I did it."
"Yeah, yeah. I think we did it," Dr. Erkshine told him.
"You're certainly the big brother now," Amy told him, grinning in relief.
"We actually did it," Howard cheered.
"How do you feel?"
"Taller."
Amy noticed Peggy trying to hide a blush. "You look taller."
Steve was handed a new shirt, and Amy looked up at her big brother. "Well, shit...Now I feel like the baby sister."
"You are...." Steve chuckled.
There was a loud explosion, shaking the whole room. Amy steadied herself, seeing a man in the suit trying to steal the last vial of serum.
"Stop him!" Dr. Erkshine shouted. The spy turned and shot him, fleeing. Amy knelt down to try to stop the blood flow as she watched the light slowly fade from his eyes. She looked up to see Steve was gone. Looking up, Colonel Phillips had a hard look in his eyes. This war just got interesting.
