The Valedictorian and The Quarterback

Former golden couple Steve Rogers and Charles Xavier encounter each other at their high school reunion and rekindle the flame between them. But the course of love never runs smooth.

Prompt: Steve and Charles were THE golden couple in high school, and dated each other happily and exclusively until Charles headed off to Oxford and Steve went to Art School (or enlisted). They went on to live separate lives and though they didn't stay in touch, they each hold the other in a special place in their hearts, looking back on their relationship with fondness and nostalgia. Years later they reconnect at a high school reunion and realize that a lot (A LOT) has changed in both of their lives and they're very different people than what they remember. But the spark is still there and they decide to get to know each other again and try dating as adults. Of course the path to happiness is littered with obstacles... (i.e. divorced spouses, survivor's guilt, etc.) Bonus Points for Captain of the HS Football Team!Steve and Valedictorian!Charles. I'm totally open to a High School AU if anyone wants to focus on just that aspect of the prompt! Hope you like! I do plan to eventually write a story to go with this.
