The Death Of A Hero
Thanos raised his arm. “I am inevitable” and snapped his fingers. Everyone waited for the end to come. But nothing happened. Then they heard a pain filled scream from behind. Shakily Peter lifted his head with the infinity stones adjusting into his suit. The left side of his face is burnt and charred. “Karen activate protocol ‘When I’m Gone’” he whispered. “But Peter…!” “Just do it.”
From across the battlefield, wrecked with sounds of weapons and chaos, his eyes meet Tony's. “Peter! No! Please, don’t! Let me!” peter managed a small smile and shook his head. “Pepper needs you.”
And Peter remembered Dr Strange's words, saw the way he lifted a single, trembling finger; a symbol of the end. Endgame
Slowly, Peter stood as the surrounding battles sent showers of dust and debris toward him. “He-hey Inevitable. I’m Peter-Peter Parker.” And he snaps.
There was a bright flash of light and when it died down all of Thanos’s army faded away. Thanos looked down knowing he is defeated. When his head rose again there was no anger in his eyes, only disappointment, sadness and wary respect. “Well fought,” he admitted before fading into dust.
Peter stumbled over to a boulder and sat down leaning against it. He looked around surveying what he has done. All around the battlefield fallen warriors came back to life- and life-threatening wounds healed. Then a portal opened and out stepped Vision, Loki, Natasha and a man with whitish- blond hair in blue clothes who everyone that fought Ultron recognized as Pietro. There were tears of joy and loving reunions for everyone but him.
Then Tony ran over. “Kid! Kid, look at me. You did it. We won, we won because of you.” “We–we won?” “That’s right kiddo.” Everyone was looking at peter now. They all had tears in their eyes for this young boy who sacrificed his own life to raise their fallen comrades.
Tony spoke again “Kid-kid just stay with me! We’ll get you to the med-bay. You’ll be fine. Just stay with me.” He said trying to convince himself more than anybody else. “It -it’s o-okay.” Peter rasped “I-I love you”
“You’re a hero. Don’t worry. We’ll be fine. You can rest now.” Rhodey whispered. He smiled at them. His neck slid to the side. He was now looking at the dusty earth on the battlefield. The last thing he felt was Tony pressing a kiss to his forehead before everything went black.
The normally cool, collected and emotionless Tony Stark screamed and cried. Rhodey put his hand on Tony’s shoulder, silent tears streaming down his face.
The rest were stunned. Here was this boy no older than 16 who sacrificed his life so that they could win. Steve admired his selflessness. Wanda felt his pain she did what she could to ease it, but she knew it was hopeless. She mouthed a silent ‘thank you’ for bringing back her loved ones. Pietro stood silently. Here was this kid who was younger than him giving up his life to bring him back even though they had never met. And Stark! It was apparent that he had changed for the better. Natasha was shocked at the young boy who was so noble he died to bring people he didn’t even know back to life. Clint felt horrible. He had kids of his own and this kid had died just, so he and other could go back to their families. He knew the pain Tony was feeling. Clint had felt it every day of the five years after his children were snapped away.
“It’s all my fault. I could have done something. I could have taken the gauntlet. I could have done something but I didn’t and now he’s de- gone,” Tony sobbed. “Tony, you know what the kid is like. He would have done anything to make sure you were safe.” “Exactly! I’m the reason he died. I just got him back and now he’s gone again. Don’t you get it! I lost the kid! AGAIN! And he’s not coming back this time!” “Tony, he loved you. That’s why he did it. He wouldn’t want you to beat yourself up over him” Rhodey responded gently. “Now come on. We have to get him home. And you have a little girl waiting for you.”
The plane ride back was depressing. They were all mourning for the young fallen hero. Tony refused to let go of peter’s body. He grasped Peter’s hand and stared into the distance with glazed eyes.
