Daniel smiles, seeing as Peggy would be back in Los Angeles for her birthday, and he waits at the airport for her, and seeing her walk out with her bags.. He grins at her before going to her and wrapping his arms around her.
“Miss Carter...” He grins, holding her close.
“Mr Sousa…” She smiles, before kissing him softly.
“How was the flight?” He asks.
“Not too bad, although I did miss having you there.” She smiles.
He nods and kisses her. “Happy birthday…”
She grins, “Thank you.”
“I do have it planned out, and I think you’ll like it.”
“Think?”
“Just a little tour of Los Angeles….”
She smiles and kisses him, and he sighs out before speaking, “Thoroughly kissed. Very thoroughly kissed.”
She grins and nods, and takes her bag before walking with her, talking about well, really nothing in particular before saying. “I got your present in my office a few days ago.”
He smiles. “Did you open it?” he whispers, while swaying with her.
“I did… you do have a fine taste in jewelry Daniel.”
He grins at her. “Good, I thought you’d like the necklace.”
They get into the car and Daniel smiles before kissing her and driving over to Santa Monica Pier, before parking and walking with her. It was nice, and they ended up eating at The Galley, which was set right by the Pacific. It was nice, and they both had the Chicken Caesar Salad. Which was nice, honestly. She looked so happy and he grins. “So how’s work honey?”
“Oh, it’s all good, Howard is convinced this one nurse at the DC office is the one he’s going to marry but…”
He sighs. “Her name?”
“Maria, she’s no nonsense like Violet. She’ll be good for him. I think.”
He nods. “Really?”
She shrugs, unsure. “Maybe, I ‘ve only seen the two of them together but they seem nice together.”
He nods and she talks again. “How’s the West Coast Daniel?”
“Good, we ended up closing a couple cases this week, so it’s nice to now, well… be here.”
“And not doing paperwork?”
He nods. “We need another set of accident reports though… I’m out officially” he sighs, looking at her.
“Who did it this time?”
“In Samberly’s defense, it was an accident…”
“What happened?”
“Officially, classified, unofficially, we were working on an earpiece translator, but it fitzed out in his ears and burned his ears pretty badly. He got rushed to the emergency room, and they say he’ll be fine, but he’s probably going to be a candidate for hearing aids.”
Peggy sighs before looking at Daniel. “Just let me know if he ever decides to do something on himself again.”
“Will do Director,” He grins and kisses her hand, and she smiles softly before kissing him.
He grins kissing her, before paying for their tabs, and letting them walk around the pier for a bit. He did have to go change his stump stock, and then put on his other present for Peggy.
She always hated those hawaiian shirts, but she did admit that he did look quite cute with a sweater vest on, so he put one on and a white shirt and a nice tie, before checking his pocket for a box that he was going to give her.
He comes out and Peggy laughs, and he grins before going to her. “Alright?”
“It’s perfect.” she kisses him.
Daniel smiles, holding Peggy’s hand, and kissing her cheek. “Dinner, dancing and… Ella?”
She grins softly. “Mhm…”
He kisses her, pulling her into him before walking into the Ocean Front Café with her.
It was decorated with red and green, and he smiles before talking to the hostess, and having her show them to the table he had reserved ahead of time. It had a good view of the stage and it was exciting to see Ella Fitzgerald.
“Happy birthday,” he grins and Peggy grins.
“Thank you.”
He nods, and they order drinks, water for him and wine for her. It wasn’t often that she could come out to Los Angeles, but she made sure to come out for her birthday, his birthday, and their anniversary, which was coming up soon.
She ends up kissing his cheek. “It’s been a while since we’ve been here.”
He nods. “And Ella is singing, and apparently Marilyn Monroe is at the front table…” he grins.
“You wouldn’t leave me for Marilyn Monroe, wouldn’t you?”
“Not at all… I like more of a brunette… shy on the side but could still kick my ass into next Tuesday… and curves galore…”
Peggy chuckles and kisses him. “Well aren’t you a charmer.”
“It’s my girlfriend. I kinda have to be…” he grins.
“Daniel!” someone yells, and he turns to see Violet and Jack.
“Hi you two!” Daniel smiles and hugs them.
“Happy Birthday Peggy!” Violet grins.
“And how is the Chief of New York and Head nurse of the New York division doing?”
“Doing good,” he grins and nods at Violet who smooths her dress over a little to show a bit of a bump. Peggy grins.
“You’re…” she smiles.
“Due in early October!” she smiles and Daniel grins.
“That’s great!” Daniel smiles. “Congratulations!”
She grins. “Thank you Daniel.”
They pull up chairs and end up sitting down before ordering, and waiting for Ella Fitzgerald to come on. Daniel was quite excited actually, and he smiles before getting their food and eating and laughing with his friends. Ella came on stage and started singing to applause.
Daniel smiles at Peggy, “May I have this dance?”
She nods and he takes her hand, walking carefully to the dance floor and starting to sway. He smiles, watching her and kissing her head. “Good birthday?” he whispers.
She nods. “Yes, very much so.”
He grins and kisses her cheek, before his eyes turn to Rose and Michael, who were also here.
“Director of Shield, LA division and her boyfriend are here,” he murmurs.
Peggy grins. “You can just say Rose Roberts and Michael Carter.”
He shrugs. “I know, it just sounds more interesting.”
She nods and dances with him, and they end up seeing Jack and Violet dancing as well. He smiles and kisses her as the song ends and another one comes on. He holds her close as Night and Day comes on, and he watches as Michael spins Rose off the dance floor, and walks her outside.
“A few more songs, if you don’t mind… I’m alright with dancing with you for a bit but…” Daniel starts and Peggy nods.
“That’s alright.”
He nods, still singing softly in her ear. “Night and day you are the one…”
She grins and he sings along, before he smiles, finishing off the song.
She sighs, leaning into him as another one starts, “A Tisket, A Tasket” he thinks.
He smiles, before holding her and side stepping faster, holding her close. Both of them knew that Daniel wasn’t one for dancing, and he smiles slightly knowing that it would end with them in a bit. Peggy smiles as he starts dancing slowly with her, and holding her close. The song slowed a little, but picked back up and it was a new song, or at least one he hadn’t heard before.
He smiles, still swaying with her and Ella starts singing “Solid as a rock, solid as a rock. Love is as solid as a rock of Gibraltar. So come to the altar with me,” and Daniel blushes before letting Peggy spin her way around and he walks her out to the porch.
It was beautiful, and he looks at her, still somewhat dancing with her, before dancing with her more and twirling before starting to sing. “Solid as a rock, solid as a rock. Love is as solid as a rock of Gibraltar. So come to the altar with me.”
She smiles before holding him close and Daniel realized he had to actually do something. So when Ella starts singing again, he takes her hand, spins her around a couple times, before getting down on one knee, and getting the box out of his jacket before smiling. “Will you marry me?”
Peggy smiles and leans down to kiss him. “Yes” she says and he grins before kissing her hand and shakily puts it on her finger. It was a gold ring, and had diamonds in it. She smiles at him before kissing him and Daniel holds her close.
“Soon-to-be Mrs Sousa…”
Mr Sousa,” She smiles before kissing him softly.
He grins before kissing her again, holding her close.
He heard some clapping and turned to see Rose, Michael, Jack and Vi.
“Decided to finally put a ring on it Danny boy?” Jack smiles.
“Yes, actually.” Peggy smiles and Daniel grins before kissing her and Michael starts making fake gagging noises, and he could hear Michael say ow, assuming Rose had elbowed him hard. They smile and get up carefully.
Michael smiles and goes, “Right, well, I like him more than Fred so…”
“Who’s Fred?” Daniel turned to Peggy, who looked like she was about to punch Michael.
“The most utterly boring wanker that Peggy was engaged to.” Michael says.
“Engaged?!” everyone says and Peggy stops them.
“Fred Davis was our next door neighbor growing up, and our parents said that it was a good match for both of us. Fred was an officer in the Home Office, and I worked at Bletchley at the time. We liked each other and we did fall in love, but it wasn’t until Michael’s death that I realized that being a housewife wasn’t what I wanted.”
“I’m guessing I don’t have to worry about him?” Daniel smiles.
Peggy grins. “As far as I know, he works in the British government as a pencil pusher and has a wife named Clara.”
He nods. “Well you don’t have to worry about anyone coming back” Daniel grins.
Violet pushes him a little but smiles at him, and Daniel grins.
They end up celebrating and Daniel smiles, kissing Peggy, and this was perfect.
