Tony's POV

I stare at the black coffee in the bottom of the mug, my leg bouncing rapidly as I debate calling Peter.
Happy said he’d be taking the subway, but still he should be here by now.
I slam the rest of the lukewarm coffee down before standing up to refill the mug.

The familiar buzz of magic fills the air behind me, and I turn on my heels.
Peter and Stephen step out of a portal together, and my heart finally slows.
I sigh audibly as I step towards Peter.

“I thought you were taking the subway!” I exclaim. “You almost gave me a heart attack!”

I try my best not to yell but realize that I’m not fully in control of my body at this point.

“And what’re you doing here?” I ask, turning to look up at Stephen.

I realize how harsh it sounds as it leaves my lips, and I rub my temples as I exhale shakily.
“Peter’s worried, so I’m here to check on you.” He answers, his eyes scanning me.

I roll my eyes, crossing my arms.
“I’m fine, you’re both wasting your time.” I reply, turning to refill my coffee cup.

Steps follow behind me and come to a stop as I fill the mug.
“Dad, how many cups of coffee have you had today?” Peter asks.

I take a long drink of the bitter liquid before turning to face them again.
“Don’t know. 8? 9?” I shrug and take another drink.

Stephen’s eyes widen slightly.
“Peter why don’t you go upstairs?” He tells him, putting his hand on his shoulder.

Peter just nods, looking at me with sad eyes before walking towards the elevator.
Great.
Stephen crosses his arms as the elevator doors close.

“I don’t know why you care so much.” I spit, turning to my closest work bench and making my hands busy.
The suit in front of me seems to waiver slightly as my heart speeds, and I all but fall down into the chair behind me.

"Why didn’t you do more?" Echoes in my head as Stephen steps closer.

“Tony, you need to sleep.” He says softly, his voice sending a pain through my chest.

I turn in the chair to face him, not expecting him to be as close as he is.
“I’m sorry.” He whispers waving two fingers in front of me and making the world go dark.
