The first night in krakoa kitty lies wide awake, in the newly furnished dwellings deserving of a queen. It, of course, resembles Emma's former palaces in its regal regard. Stark white walls and furniture contrasted by shiny clear diamond and crystals slapped on everything you could call decor. She thinks of the other mutants who have had to build their own homes and rely on one another while monsters like shaw and a good majority of the quiet council lived in lush luxury that resembled the very human-like qualities they disdained. The running water and electricity that they somehow had access to while others rely on water and electric powered mutants. It wasn’t fair and they knew it.

Ignoring the dull ache in her lower back, unused to annoyingly soft beds, she stands and stretches. Walking towards the moonlit balcony she opens the double window paned doors and walks to the edge. Staring down at the dark lushness of their paradise. Below she could see the various lights of those awake, from a distance she could hear the excited chatter and sounds of excitement. It was during the night they were free to party and celebrate as Erik had been very… thorough with how he felt about “ japing nonsense “ and the productivity of mutantkind, preferring them to be useful and take part in the crucible and prove their worth. Everything about the rital made her stomach churn, to fight and prove themselves for the birthright stolen from them, it wasn’t right. Everything about krakoa wasn’t right.

Holding onto the balcony she gazes down and stares at the words she’d had tattooed on. She had come to regret the tacky knuckle tats, in truth she had always wanted a tattoo but not like this. Wishing she hadn’t let emmas cool words and her own rage guide her to do something so stupid. Sighing she folds her hands against her face, letting the wind blow her hair and tickle her cheeks.

Briefly she could smell the salt of the sea and her innards ached. The ocean had been her domicile, a second home for her and her crew. It comforted her far more than this creepy island ever could.

Pulling away she resolves herself back to bed, no doubt she’d have another cargo job from Emma and the others for the human made goods they sneered at so easily. Just as she touched the cold brass handle to the balcony door she froze, the all too familiar bamf sound of a certain fuzzy blue resounding in the far distance. At the appearance of the blue man, many of the mutants below began to cheer and cries of excitement could be heard.

Gripping the handle tighter she willed herself to move away from the spot, to get away from the guilt that tightened her chest and constricted her throat. She didn’t feel so calm anymore. After quickly scuttling back to the white room she buries herself in the ridiculously soft white bed and closes her eyes, eager for sleep to come.

The day that you arrived the sun went black

An artificial night

You came and stole away the light

And put it in your eyes

How could I possibly expect you’d eclipse the midnight sun?

I thought that i knew all the moons but then you pulled me back to one~

Every fiber of her being seized, her eyes snap open and she's back at the edge of the balcony before she could fully process what she’d heard. Down below, on a makeshift stage she sees bright rainbow lights attached to a metal frame overhanging the karaoke equipment that had been set up. Mutants of all kinds surrounded the stage listening and cheering as the music continued.

And right there, center stage stood Kurt, microphone in one hand and empty shot glass another. From the slight way and the curling of his tail it was safe to say he was hammered, he had to be. Never in all her years of knowing him had she ever truly heard him sing, hadn’t known he possessed such a stellar voice. It wasn’t like the common prettier and marketable voices you heard in music but it had a genuine gentleness to it, tone and emotion that resounded so beautifully around the stage. The crowd below certainly seemed to love it, love him.

If the stars ever align

I hope you take it as a sign

That you'll be ok

Everything will be ok

Listening to the rising tone she felt herself ache, she longed to be down there with them, with him. Watching as her fuzzy elf swayed more as the song began to crescendo. She couldn’t contain the laughter that escaped her as he drunkenly leaned too far back and had to be supported by a random mutant who’d been quick to catch him. The music grew louder and bolder as he did. Kurt let his had fall back, holding up the empty shot glass while giving the songs end his all.

And when creation goes to die

You can find me in the sky

Upon the last day

And you will be ok

As the song finished and the music faded the drunken blue mutant allowed himself to be half-carried off stage as the crowd roared, his brilliant voice had excited and riled up the crowd. Next a couple of colorful mutants took the stage and with a roaring start began their own song, loud and proud while the crowd cried and cheered for more.

Peering down at the crowd she finally spotted Kurt, now standing with Rachel by a rotund outside bar. She was laughing, trying to get him off of the stool but was having no luck without the phoenix's intervention. A golden red light flashed for a moment before kurt was lifted and pulled away by their old friend.

A rush of fondness and nostalgia overtook kitty, she stared down at her friends, probably some of her truest companions and felt the all consuming pain in her heart. Why hadn’t she talked to them? Why had she just left. She wasn’t a queen, no she was a fucking lapdog. The white queen's attack dog. As vibrated with anger and new resolve she gazed down and her eyes met gold iris tinged by cosmic fire. Rachel looked back at her, something akin to a more gentle relief, happiness? As their eyes met. She gives kitty a tight lipped smile, weak but it meant something. Kurt, in all his drunken glory lets his head fall back. A tipsy grin stretching wider as the phoenix all but shook him for being too wiggly. As brown met gold his smile faded and he lifted his head just a bit more, staring up at her with an emotion she couldn’t decipher (longing? fondness?) and he smiled, a genuine smile. Kitty smiled back, though it felt weak, fake. Giving a final nod, Rachel continues her trek to toss kurts drunk ass in bed.

As she leaves, Kurt's eyes don’t leave hers, his gaze set upon her until they turn the corner and vanish. Taking her aching heart with them. After some time spent too long staring at the corner she reluctantly turned and for the final time closed the white velvet curtains over the balcony door. Exhausted and wanting to soothe.

As she lay in the dark her mind couldn’t help but replay everything, the smooth tenor of his voice, the look in his eyes, it was too much.

It wasn’t until the early hours of the morning did she find any reprieve, long after the celebration had ended and all had gone to bed. Her mind dreamed of pearl white fangs and glowing eyes and finally she was at peace.
