Two years after that first hug in the training room, Steve and Thor were the couple that every avenger aspired to be like. Tony and Pepper were still off and on, off more often than not. Clint and Nat had broken up for the last time, and Clint had gotten married in Vegas to a waitress named Laura who had three kids and a weakness for a dumpster fire man. Bruce had finally told them all about Betty when General Ross tried again to take The Hulk into custody.
And then there were the twins and Vision. Wanda was maybe in love with the android, but Vision didn’t have human emotions and Steve knew she was heading for heartbreak. Pietro, like his powers, was fast. He’d taken to sleeping around in quantities that would make a younger Stark blush.
Steve and Thor, however, were deliriously happy together. Even with his sexuality being a bit of a sticky point for some conservatives, Steve had become a media darling and a LGBT spokesperson. He and Thor were PR gold and for once in his life, Steve wasn't fighting every single aspect of living in the 21st century. They’d moved into Thor’s Avenges Tower floor and had taken to filling the walls with Steve’s art and things from across the Nine Realms.
It was cozy and warm and Steve had days where he did not want to leave it.
“Morning love.” Steve felt Thor’s arms tighten around him. It was later than he normally slept but there had been a call out the night before, a Bucky sighting that hadn’t panned out. He’d been sad when they got home and when he got sad Thor did everything he could to bring him out. The night before that involved a bubble bath with candles lit all over their large bathroom and a plate full of berries.
“Mornin’ Thor.” He rolled over to kiss his boyfriend’s bearded chin. “Sleep well?”
“I always sleep well when we’re together, love.”
“Sap.” Steve said, snuggling deeper into Thor’s embrace.
“I have no shame in being a sap for you.” Thor mumbled into Steve’s head. “Is there anything to do today, or can I keep you in our bed for all of it?”
“Uh, We debriefed last night, so I guess I can push anything else off til tomorrow. You got plans?”
“Indeed I do. I plan to keep you in this bed, in my arms to show you just how much I love you. It has been too long since we've had hours of uninterrupted relaxation. I am calling today ours.” Thor said, his voice not allowing for any arguments.
“I can get behind that.” Steve offers.
“I enjoy being behind you.” Thor says, laughing.
“Horndog.” Steve teases. “Lemme just tell Friday so that Tony don’t brother us.”
“Mmmm.” Thor shuffles down the bed a bit, humming against Steve’s skin.
“Hey Friday, can you tell Tony that we’re taking the day off. No one should bother us unless the world is ending.” Steve calls out.
“Yes Captain. I’ll be sure to let boss know. Enjoy your day.”
“And blackout. Please.”
“Yes Captain.” With that done Steve burrowed deeper under the blankets and closer into Thor. He’d have to get up soon to use the bathroom at least, and get some food and coffee. But for now, he was happy to spend time wrapped up in his love’s arms.

They do eventually get up. They take turns in the bathroom and then head to the kitchen together. Steve makes coffee while Thor gets nibbles together for breakfast. With a tray full of breakfast, or considering the time, lunch, and they head back to bed. Thor puts the tray down gently, and Steve catches sight of the small jar with three roses stolen from the large bouquet Thor had given him a few nights ago. The blooms were still gorgeous, a soft pink that made Steve want to blush and kiss Thor senseless.
“Thor, thank you. It’s real sweet.”
“Only the best for my love. You deserve all the good things. I can only be grateful that you consider me to be a part of that.”
“You are the best thing.” Steve tells him, moving to straddle his lap. “The best thing and you're mine, yeah? So if I deserve good things and you are the best thing, then I definitely deserve you. There’s no reason to feel grateful. Unless of course you mean how grateful I am that you came after me two years ago and reminded me that I was allowed to be human. Because I am grateful for that.” He leaned forward to kiss his godly boyfriend, to make sure he gets his point across. Because if either of them are lucky here, it’s definitely Steve.
“We can be grateful and lucky and thankful and all of that, as long as we are that together. That is all that matters. I cannot, no, I do not want to envision a life in which I did not follow you that night. It was the catalyst to the best thing to ever happen in my life. Getting you.”
Steve dropped his head to Thor’s shoulder. They could and have, gone around and around about who is more grateful for their relationship. He is done with that now. Now he just wants to revel in it. No more quantifying.
“Yeah, you got me. Hoping you plan to keep me.” He murmurs, before he can think too hard about admitting that.
“I will keep you as long as you want. Losing you is not a thing I am prepared to do.” Thor tells him, his voice all gravity and sureness.
“Good. Now, coffee and lunch, then back to snuggling.” Steve slides off Thor’s lap, but Thor catches him and pulls him back to half sitting on him. In one smooth move he has a piece of apple in his fingers, and is feeding it to Steve with awe.
“Why not eating and snuggling. Feeding you is always on my to do list.” He winks and Steve nibbles the next piece of apple and the one after that. He takes the sips of cool coffee Thor gives him, and Steve would be glad to have this for always.
