Chapter 4
“What?” Steve deadpanned, “You did what?”
“We’re really sorry, sir.” Peter replied, looking desperately between Captain Rogers and Mr Stark, “It was a complete accident, we didn’t mean for Flash to overhear us.”
“He might not even tell anyone,” Harley pointed out hopefully.
“You don’t know that!” Steve snapped, worriedly.
“Steve,” Tony cut in, finally speaking. “Steve it’s okay.” He rubbed his husbands arm to comfort him and took a deep breath, “We’re not mad, guys. We know it would get out eventually, it was only a matter of time.”
Steve nodded, “You’re right. Sorry, boys.” He added with an apologetic smile directed towards Harley and Peter.
“I mean we told Clint, we knew the risk going in.” Tony joked, trying to lighten the mood.
“We still feel terrible.” Peter said, “Is there anything we can do?”
“Y’all want me to threaten Flash some more? I wouldn’t be opposed.” Harley asked.
The three men turned to look at him blankly, “What?” He said, defensively.
“I think we’re gonna keep that one as Plan B, you little menace.” Tony answered. “In the meantime you boys just keep an ear out for anyone talking about the bub, we might need to do some damage control.”
“Tones,” Steve began, “I’m just thinking aloud here but you’re nearly three months along, you’re hardly showing yet but you will be soon and then it will be impossible to hide, why don’t we hold a press conference and announce the news now?”
The mechanic paused to think. Steve had a point, the press were bound to find out sooner or later. If they got it out of the way it would take a load off his shoulders, maybe everyone would be over it by the time the baby was born. But on the other hand, what if some psychopath comes after him when he’s so far along? He’d be extra vulnerable and unable to protect himself.
“I’m not going to let anything happen to either of you.” Steve promised, seeming to read Tony’s mind.
“Neither are we, Mr Stark.” Peter chirped in.
“We’ll look out for ya, Mechanic.” Harley grinned, “You got our word.”
“Yeah and if anyone dares to say or do anything, Harley has proven he has no morals with showing some fuckwit how they do it down in Rose Hill.”
“It’s true.” The Tennessean boy nodded.
Tony grinned, placing a hand on his barley there baby bump, “Thanks, kiddos. I guess I’ll ask Pep to schedule a press conference.”
Steve kissed his husbands temple, “Love you.”
Tony smiled, revelling in the feeling of having his family safe and around him.
