Building the Team
Nico sat in the labs he used to share with his father in the recently re-bought Stark Tower, papers and files and photographs littering the glass surface of the large table. Other photographs as well as surveillance footage were littering his holographic screen. He was murmuring to himself, running his fingers through his hair, biting his nails and throwing pens across the room. Every so often he'd scratch behind his ear, taking a picture and adding it to his holographic notice board.
"Hey Nick-" the boy entering the room stopped in his tracks as he looked at the mess in the lab. The brown haired boy turned to the younger boy with tired, manic eyes. His cheeks looked stiff and covered in dry tears, his nails were bitten as far as they could go, the clothes he wore, the boy noted, were the same ones he had been wearing three days ago. "What is this?" he asked as he made his way towards the desk. He looked at the photographs and the names beneath them, recognising a few.
"These- these people, we need a team. desperately. They might be able to help us."
"You can't, Nico." he said as he continued to glance over the holographic notice board. "Some of these people won't help." he looked specifically at a picture of a girl with blonde hair and a red cloak and a boy with dark black hair in a green and black cape.
His heart hurt as he recognised them immediately. Fanakar Lokison and Rai Thorsdottir - the prince and princess of Asgard, or were now that the planet had been destroyed and New Asgard was ruled by the only remaining Valkyrie, Brunnhilde.
"I know, I know, Peter but hear me out." the boy raised a brow at him. "All of these people, combined? We could do good. We can keep the legacy my dad left alive."
Peter Parker sighed. "Nico, we're just a group of kids."
"We aren't kids anymore. Just hear me out." begged Nico. "Please."
A moment passed as they stared into each other's eyes. "Fine, but I'm calling in Shuri."
——————
"We all know Rai and Fanakar," said Peter.
Once Shuri had appeared, she had convinced Nico to shower, change, eat and take a nap ("Nicholas Stark! So help me if I find out you have been working yourself to death, I will kill you myself!") . While Nico was doing this, Peter had researched more people and had taken over, seeing the toll it took on him. Peter had looked even deeper into these people, with the help of Friday and his SHIELD account that Nick Fury had given him after he stopped the Beck in Europe.
"I don't." replied the princess.
"Oh, um, ok," Peter answered. In the centre of the pile photographs was a painted mural. In that mural, a blonde girl was wearing light silver armour with a red cape flowing around her, lightning buzzing around the long sword she held and the dark haired male was wearing a black body suit with a black cape that had a green interior, small gold horns coming from a headpiece and two long, pointy sword were made of a black and green metal. The two seemed to be fighting off rather large wolves. "Rai, daughter of Thor and Goddess of lightning and victory, and Fanakar, son of Loki, God of magic and trickery. Rai is around eighteen in human years and Fanakar is nineteen." the arachnid pointed at each person as he spoke about them. "Despite Rai technically being next in line for the throne of Asgard is Thor dies, Fanakar was next in line after him and not Rai as he was the next oldest male." Shuri rolled her eyes and muttered "sexist old bastards" under her breath. Despite knowing all of this information, Nico furiously took notes. "Rai, much like her father is very, very strong and can control lightning and electricity and Fanakar has shape shifting and magical abilities, like Loki." Peter finished to explaining. Before pointing to posters of the two with bold headlines screaming "MISSING!".
"Both the prince and the princess went missing a few months before the Blip as they went with Thor in his quest to search for the Infinity Stones. According to Thor, they went missing not long before the destruction of Asgard. No one has seen them since." He swiped their pictures away on the holographic board. He looked to Nico for assurance and he nodded.
"Next up, Miss America AKA America Chavez." a young woman with a tanned skin and dark, unruly hair came on the screen next. Another picture was a CCTV freeze frame, her curly hair now neat and in many braids that fell out of the hood attached to a denim jacket with an American flag painted on the back. She also wore a red zipper with a blue shirt with a large star in the middle. "She's a mutant, born with powers a bit like," he paused for a second, remembering the man that had died of old age not two months earlier. "like Steve." Shuri frowned and Nico began chewing on his lips. "Super strength, super speed and durability. However, she can also fly and rumour has it that she is so strong, she can kick a hole through reality and into other universes." Another CCTV footage appeared, the camera directed towards an alleyway, the time stamp saying it was somewhere in Cuba. The girl, America, could be seen kicking a hole into a brick wall, but all that happened was a small, black and blue portal appeared and she disappeared into it and it closed behind her. The three watched as the portal reopened and she climbed back out of it with a double ended dagger in her hand. "Friday, stop the video." the video paused and Peter zoomed in on the dagger. "Recognise that?" he pointed at it. Not waiting for an answer, he pulled up another photograph. It was an identical dagger but rather than having cerulean blue diamonds, they were blood red. "Gamora's dagger."
"So that's a different Gamora's dagger?" asked Shuri. "From another universe?" Peter nodded and Nico just continued to stare at the screen. "Cool." she nodded with a grin. "Add her to the list, Nick."
"Who's next?" asked an impatient Nico who had now moved on to bouncing his knee.
"Katarina Ivanov." replies Peter as he opened a file and many photographs, news and police reports came up. A police mugshot appeared up front with a short girl with long blonde hair and an innocent look on her face - despite the blood splatters and bruises on her cheeks. "Also known as Bloody Valentine. Nineteen years old, no mother we know of but she was adopted by her father who is from Spain where they lived for eight years. They moved to France and her father took her to a secret Red Room where she lived and trained for ten years. It was then destroyed when everyone returned from the Blip a year ago. She was arrested two months ago but, of course, escaped." The photograph he pulled up was the same girl wearing a tight, black suit with a red belt and, most notably, red ballerina shoes. She had guns strapped to her thighs, daggers at her ankles and a katana on her back. "Nine assignations via sniper, three by poisoning, thirteen by basic gunfire and seventeen by other means. Trained in around eight forms of martial arts and espionage and she also speaks twelve different languages too. As the Red Room does, they injected her with a amount of supersoldier serum. She's like a mini Natasha." Nico clenched his jaw at the name.
"I say we add her." said Nico as he watched videos of her fighting large groups of men gracefully. She wasn't on his original list and Nico was impressed with Peter's findings.
"She is a killer, Nico." said Shuri.
"A bounty hunter slash hitwoman." corrected Peter.
Shuri glared at him.
"That's why we need her." said Nico.
"Someone ruthless, someone who isn't scared to make the hard decisions." said peter. The young Stark said nothing, only writing down the information given next to her name. Peter swiped everything away before pulling up a photograph of a tall girl with dark brown hair standing next to a man with a mohawk, both grinning proudly as a target stood behind them with an array with arrows fighting for a spot in the bullseye.
"Really, Peter?" said Nico. "We haven't seen her for months. We don't even know where she-"
"Sorry I'm late." a voice was heard behind them.
Peter waved shyly as Nico quickly quietened. Turning around, Nico saw none other than Kate Bishop staring back at him, her dark brown hair in boxer braids with her black and purple sleeveless training suit on, her bow and quiver sitting neatly on her back, smirking at him.
"It's good to see you, Kate!" exclaimed Nico.
"It's good to be back." Kate sat down in a seat beside Shuri, who introduced herself. She placed her bow on the table and leaned her quiver against the leg.
"A princess should not place her weapons on the table" said Peter with a smirk, knowing she would understand.
"I'm not going to say it again, Peter. It stopped being funny after the third time."
"Come on!"
The two were quite close. They had met not long after his return from Europe and she was nice enough to him after his identity was revealed by Beck. They worked out that they trained very well together and their friendship began to bloom.
"Kate Bishop, or Hawkeye, apprentice to Clint Barton who trained her in archery and self defence. She's also well versed in basic hand-to-hand combat and boxing." Peter turned to her. "Anything you'd like to add, Kate?"
"I look forward to working with you." Nico reached across the table and fist-bumped the girl's small hand with his large one before writing her name and information in his notepad. "Keep 'em coming, Parker." Kate smirked at her friend who rolled his eyes but smiled nonetheless.
"William Kaplan, also known as Wiccan and Thomas Shepherd, also known as Speed, aka Billy and Tommy." explained Peter as he pulled up two pictures - one of a boy with dark black hair and blue eyes and the other with stark white hair and green eyes. "Sons of Wanda Maximoff."
"Why do they have different surnames?" asked Shuri, glancing between the two pictures.
"That is a good question." answered Peter. "I wish I could tell you. It's something along the lines of "because they're actually the reincarnations of Wanda and Vision's dead twins that turned out to not actually exist"," Peter glanced over to the table full of people before glancing back to the screen and pulling up more photos - some of Wanda Maximoff, Vision, The Hex over Westview and Billy and Tommy from within the Hex. "but they were unknowingly raised by two different sets of completely normal birth parents, but then they found each other and found out who they actually were." He turned around to see blank faces staring back at him. "You got that?" he asked.
"Sure," replied Nico, dragging out the vowels. "and their abilities are what exactly?"
"Well-"
"Their names are Wiccan and Speed, Nico," interrupted Kate. "what exactly do you think their powers are?"
"Shut up, Kate."
"Bite me."
"As I was saying," said Peter. "yes, their names to give an idea to their powers. Billy possesses an innate mystical ability which allows him to alter and manipulate reality at will. His mastery is in flight and lightning based spells and Tommy can move, think and react at superhuman speeds."
"So they're like a mini Wanda and Pietro?" asked Nico. "Pretty much."
"How did Tommy manage to inherit his uncle's powers?" asked Kate.
"I don't wanna know." answered Peter, causing the archer to scoff. "Give us the rundown, Nic?" asked Peter as he cleared the entire board and brought up a keyboard.
"Ten, myself included. We have you, Shuri and Kate," Peter brought the keyboard up, adding all of their names and photographs. "Rai and Fanakar, wherever they are," Nico listed. "America Chavez, Katarina Ivanov, Billy Kaplan and Tommy Shepherd. Seems like a proper team, but what makes you think they're all going to agree?" asked Nico.
"We just have to hope." replied Peter. "Rai and Fanakar, if we find them will help for sure. America looks after children who haven't been able to find their families after everyone returned, so she may be hard to convince. Katarina was one of the ones who was unfortunately blipped away and she never quite recovered." he paused.
"Where are they," asked Shuri. "and how are we supposed to find them?"
Peter, not answering verbally, opens up a world map with pictures spread all over the world, yet the pictures of Rai and Fanakar were placed off to the side. A photograph of the four present were clustered around New York, America was somewhere down in Argentina, Katarina's photograph was in France and Billy and Tommy to the east of Canada.
"I can take America," said Kate. "if no one wants to contest that?"
There was no reply so Peter moved her photograph from New York to Argentina.
"I'll take the twins." said Shuri.
"Can you handle Katarina, Nico?" asked Peter. "I want to stay here, keep an eye out for the Asgardians." Nico nodded and they all had their assigned person. They all stood up and those of which had to leave, began to gather their things.
