Winter Baby - Mother's Day

Bucky smiles at his baby girl while she sleeps on his chest.

-

"Bucky." Venus sighs, when she enters their shared bedroom.

-

Bucky looks up at Venus confused.

-

Venus smiles with a shake of her head.

-

"I'm sorry baby did you ask me something?" Bucky asks confused.

"It's okay." Venus walks out of the bedroom.

"I think one of these days your mom's going to kill me." Bucky looks down at his sleeping daughter.

-

The two month old baby smiles in her sleep.

-

Bucky smiles.

-

"Found it!" Venus laughs.

-

Bucky carefully gets up from the bed, he holds his daughter close to his chest with his metal hand, and then he walks out of the bedroom.

-

"Where was it?" Bucky asks, finding his wife Venus in the kitchen.

"Steve left it in the laundry room. I forgot Grayson spilled juice on it." Venus smiles.

"Oh yeah Steve felt bad so he tried to clean it up." Bucky nods, remembering the incident.

"You do realize you'll have to give her up right?" Venus giggles, looking down at their daughter.

"What?" Bucky asks, turning his body away from his wife.

"You know my mother." Venus shakes her head. "Once she sees her granddaughter, she's going to take her, and then she's not going to give her back."

"I'd like to see her-"

Venus raises her eyebrows at Bucky.

-

"She'd kick my ass." Bucky cringes.

"Yes she would." Venus laughs. "So before I lose her to grandma. It's my turn to-"

"What? She's sleeping." Bucky steps away from Venus.

"James I'll kick your ass." Venus smiles.

-

Bucky sighs as he looks down at his daughter and then back up at his wife.

-

"You need to get dressed." Venus holds her hands out for their daughter.

"I can get dressed and-"

"James." Venus shakes her head.

"Fine." Bucky sighs, carefully handing their daughter to Venus.

"Oh come here my little love." Venus smiles, carefully holding their daughter against her chest.

-

Bucky sighs dreamily with a dopey smile seeing his wife with their daughter.

-

"Go! Get dressed! We have a long drive ahead of us!" Venus giggles, seeing Bucky look at her.

"Oh right!" Bucky blushes with a chuckle.

"You've come a long way James-" Venus hesitates.

-

Bucky smiles.

-

"I'm sorry. You've come a long way, Bucky Barnes." Venus smiles.

"Only you can call me James." Bucky chuckles.

"Good. Now go! If my mom calls-"

Venus' phone starts to ring.

-

"Speak of the devil." Venus pulls her phone out of her pocket. "Hi Grandma."

-

Bucky rushes to the bedroom to change.

-

Venus laughs.

-

"Grandma?" Adelynn asks confused.

-

The baby starts to fuss against Venus.

-

"Shhhh it's just Auntie Adelynn." Venus lifts her daughter so that her little head rests on her shoulder.

"Hey baby girl! I can't wait to see you soon!" Adelynn says, happily through the phone.

"Did you hear that? Your Auntie is excited to see you!" Venus giggles.

-

The baby sighs heavily.

-

"She's excited." Venus giggles.

"Is the super soldier ready?" Adelynn asks.

"He's getting ready. He thought my mom called." Venus giggles.

-

The baby stretches out her arms. She reaches out to stroke Venus' cheek.

-

Venus kisses her daughter's little hand.

-

"Oh that's why-" Adelynn connects the dots.

"Sometimes using my mother as leverage helps." Venus giggles.

"Do you want to see what someone could do with some leverage?" Bucky asks in Venus' ear.

-

Venus gets chills as she turns around to face Bucky.

-

"Was that Bucky?" Adelynn asks over the phone.

-

Venus looks at Bucky from his head, to his toes, and then back up to his face.

-

"No! Bucky give me my friend back! Venus! Venus don't look into his eyes! Venus don't do it!" Adelynn screams into the phone.

-

Venus laughs as Adelynn yells at her.

-

"What?" Bucky asks confused.

"If you really want to wear layers I suggest a sweatshirt. It's going to be really hot already, and-"

"She wants you to be shirtless!" Adelynn yells.

"I do not!" Venus says into the phone.

"Venus you already have a baby." Adelynn states.

"What are you trying to say?" Venus scoffs. 

"Okay stop thinking about-"

Bucky takes the phone from Venus.

-

"Bucky no!" Venus widens her eyes.

"My wife's thoughts are for me to enjoy." Bucky smiles at Venus.

"Oh my god." Venus walks away from Bucky.

"First of all she does share things with me, you don't even know about! Second did she walk away?" Adelynn laughs.

"Yeah she's gone with the baby." Bucky chuckles.

"Bucky I'm so excited! You haven't said anything have you?" Adelynn giggles.

"No I haven't said anything. Have you?" Bucky scoffs.

"For once I was able to keep quiet about this." Adelynn proudly says.

"Alright is the old man ready?" Bucky asks.

"You do remember that you're both-?"

"My love are we ready? Because Jean is going to need to eat soon." Venus asks, she fixes the dress their baby is wearing.

"Adelynn I need to go." Bucky smiles.

"You two are disgusting. Bring a towel if you two are going to drool over each other." Adelynn says in disgust.

Bucky laughs.

-

"I love you guys! I can't wait to meet Jean!" Adelynn giggles.

"We love you guys too. Bye." Bucky chuckles.

"Byeeeeeeeeee!" Venus giggles.

"Byeeeeeeeeee." Adelynn mocks over the phone.

"Wow look at you! I'm surprised Mommy put you in a dress." Bucky gushes, walking over to Venus and Jean.

"And so it begins with people saying that." Venus rolls her eyes.

"Baby I'm teasing." Bucky rests his hand on Venus' arm.

"Yeah. Time to go? You get the diaper bag." Venus forces a smile and then she walks out of the house.

Bucky sighs as he grabs the diaper bag off of the kitchen table, he grabs the car keys by the front door, and then he meets Venus and Jean in the car.

-

"You okay baby?" Bucky asks, looking over his shoulder at baby Jean.

-

Baby Jean gurgles at Bucky with a big toothless smile.

-

Bucky chuckles as he looks forward.

-

"You okay Mom?" Bucky asks, grabbing Venus' hand.

"Fine." Venus says.

-

Bucky nods to himself and then he starts the car.

A 4 hours car drive later.

-

"They're here!" Steve yells excitedly.

"In coming." Bucky chuckles, parking in the driveway.

"Let the fun begin." Venus sighs, getting out of the car.

"Venus!" Steve says happily, opening his arms for a hug.

"Hi Steve." Venus smiles, giving Steve a hug.

"Look at you! You look incredible!" Steve compliments.

"Steve you're already forgiven for the pregnancy comment." Venus giggles.

"Uh- yeah that-" Steve nervously chuckles.

"Oh believe me as much as I love Jean Ann. I did not love how big my breasts got. Although my big belly getting me stuck in the pantry was pretty funny." Venus smiles, rolling her eyes.

"Bruce still feels bad about the pantry incident." Steve chuckles.

"He would hold guilt over that." Venus nods.

"So where is-?"

"Steve what have I told you about stealing my girl?" Bucky teases, holding Jean in his arms.

"Is that-? Is this-?" Steve is about to burst with excitement.

Venus and Bucky look at each other with a giggle.

-

Baby Jean opens up her eyes as she wakes up from a long nap.

-

"Bucky she has your eyes!" Steve gasps. "Look at her hair! Venus!"

"Steve we are very aware of who gave her what for looks." Venus giggles.

"Speaking of looks! She looks exactly like you Venus!" Steve smiles. "Can I hold her? Please?"

"That you need to fight my husband over. He doesn't even share her with me half the time." Venus playfully glares at Bucky.

Bucky chuckles with an innocent smile.

-

"And word of advice, take her now because here comes-"

"GRANDMA!" Bucky says happily.

"My baby! My baby's baby!" Venus' mom hugs Venus tightly.

"Hi Mom." Venus smiles, feeling content in her mother's arms.

-

Steve carefully takes baby Jean from Bucky. While Venus' mom May is busy.

-

"Are you okay baby?" May asks, pulling away to look at her daughter.

"Just homesick." Venus smiles.

-

May smiles and then she kisses her daughter's cheek.

-

Bucky rests his flesh hand on Venus' lower back.

-

"Bucky." May turns to her son in-law.

"Hi May." Bucky smiles.

"Is it alright-?" May asks, holding up her arms.

"Of course." Bucky nods, stepping towards May.

-

May smiles as she and Bucky exchange a hug.

-

"Look at you. You're so beautiful." Steve gushes to his niece.

-

Venus giggles at Steve.

-

"Why is everyone out front? The food is almost done!" Dory opens the front door.

"Mom Venus, Bucky, and baby Jean are here!" Adelynn says, pushing past her mom.

-

Venus laughs as she walks away from everyone to talk to Adelynn.

-

"Hey you made it!" Adelynn smiles.

"Hey there she is!" Venus smiles at her best friend.

"Where is-?" Adelynn looks around.

"She's with her other favorite uncle." Venus smiles.

"Ugh why did you let Steve take the baby?" Adelynn shakes her head.

"Because Jean needs a best friend." Venus winks.

"Oh please your mother has already asked Steve to donate to the cause." Adelynn laughs.

"She did not-" Venus gasps.

"Exactly like that." Adelynn nods.

"Oh my god I am so sorry." Venus laughs.

"It's not half as bad-"

"Compared to what she told Bucky? Believe me I know." Venus shakes her head with a laugh. "I'm surprised he's married to me and he's the father of our child."

"I'm not surprised." Adelynn shakes her head.

"Why's that?" Venus asks curiously.

"That reason." Adelynn points over Venus' shoulder.

Venus looks over her shoulder.

-

Bucky meets Venus' eyes, Bucky looks away with a blush when Venus catches him looking at her, and then he starts talking to Steve as a distraction.

-

Venus giggles as she looks at Adelynn.

-

"That's why." Adelynn giggles. "You two are so weak for each other! It's disgusting."

"Shut up!" Venus scoffs.

"I'm kidding! I absolutely love this for you two!" Adelynn laughs.

"Are you guys coming in to eat or what?" Dory asks, opening the front door again.

"Mom in a mood?" Venus asks with a laugh.

"She's my mom she's always in a mood." Adelynn rolls her eyes. "We're coming!"

"Come on everyone." May ushers everyone inside.

-

Venus follows Adelynn inside, May pushes Steve and Bucky towards the house, and May walks behind everyone to keep them in line.

-

Venus and Adelynn trip over each other making themselves laugh as they enter the house.

-

Venus drops her hands at her side, a cold metal hand grabs Venus' hand, and Venus smiles giving the hand a squeeze.

-

"So what did your mom make?" Venus asks, as everyone enters the kitchen.

"She grilled so hamburgers, brats, hot dogs." Adelynn shrugs. "Two chickens for a certain blonde guest."

"Oh hey Thor!" Venus says surprised.

"Venus! One of the very powerful planets! How are you?" Thor greets with a big smile.

"I'm-"

Thor chuckles as he wraps his arms around Venus. He picks her up momentarily in a big hug.

-

"I'm good Thor. Thanks." Venus smiles, standing on her own feet again.

"Tell me where is-? My gods look at her! She's beautiful!" Thor smiles, seeing Steve with baby Jean.

"Be careful with her. As far as we know she's human." Bucky warns.

-

Venus smiles at Bucky.

-

"Venus she looks just like you!" Thor says surprised.

"We've been told." Bucky sighs.

"Aw Dad is jealous." Venus teases.

"Okay everyone sit! Sit! I'm starving." Dory gestures everyone towards the table.

"Hi Dory." Venus smiles.

"Hey honey! Where's-? Oh look at her!" Dory gasps at baby Jean.

"I think it's grandma's turn." May walks over to Steve.

"Aw!" Steve whines.

"Grandma gets what Grandma wants." May waves Steve off.

"Told you." Venus giggles.

"Venus!" A voice says happily.

"Bruce hi!" Venus hugs her step Dad.

"It's so good to see you." Bruce smiles. "Bucky I'm so glad you came!"

"Me too." Bucky smiles, grabbing Venus' shirt.

Venus giggles.

"Baby and Bucky sit by me please." May walks over to the table.

-

May sits at one end of the table, Venus sits to her right, Bucky sits to Venus' right, and Steve sits to Bucky's right. Adelynn sits to Steve's right, Dory sits at the other end of the table, Thor sits to Dory's right, and Bruce sits to May's left.

-

May kisses baby Jean's little face, gushing over her granddaughter.

-

Venus smiles as she puts food on her mother's plate, then her own plate, and then she turns to Bucky.

-

"Would you like me to-?"

"No. Thank you though my love." Bucky smiles, picking up his own plate.

"Okay." Venus smiles, turning to her mother.

-

Bucky puts food on his plate and then he watches everyone while he eats.

-

Adelynn and her mother tease each other, about something a young Adelynn once did.

-

"Mom! Steve doesn't need to know that!" Adelynn snaps.

-

Dory laughs as she brushes a loose strand of hair behind Adelynn's ear.

-

Adelynn rolls her eyes with a smile at her mother's touch.

-

Steve chuckles, politely covering his mouth full of food.

-

Bucky smiles he's happy to see his friend happy and in love.

-

Thor and Bruce are having a deep conversation about science and space.

-

Bruce does his best not to get caught up in Thor's mispronunciation of things.

-

Thor does strange hand gestured to explain what he's saying.

-

Bucky shakes his head at Thor and Bruce. They always try to stay on the same level of conversation. But it rarely works in Bruce's favor.

-

"Mom!" Venus snaps with a laugh.

-

Bucky looks at his wife, mother in-law, and his daughter.

-

"Mother that is so rude!" Venus playfully scolds, as she tries to wipe ketchup off her daughter's forehead.

"It's not like I tried-" May starts to argue.

-

Baby Jean starts to get fussy from the cold strange substance on her forehead.

-

"Oh come here my love." Venus takes Jean from her mother.

"Um excuse me! She was just fine with her grandmother!" May scoffs.

-

Venus shakes her head with a laugh. She adjusts Jean in her arms, so she's resting comfortably.

-

"Shhhh Mom's got you my love." Venus whispers, kissing Jean's little cheek.

-

Baby Jean whines a little.

-

"Oh I know, grandma was so mean." Venus teases her mother. She strokes Jean's cheek with her thumb.

-

Baby Jean leans into her mother's touch.

-

"I love you very much." Venus smiles at baby Jean.

"You're an amazing mother baby." May rests her head against Venus'.

-

Venus closes her eyes as she leans against her mother.

-

Bucky smiles to himself, fondly remembering how much a mother's touch means to everyone. His heartaches as he thinks about his own mother. He misses her dearly.

-

A hand rests on Bucky's leg getting his attention.

-

Bucky looks down at the hand on his leg, he looks up to see Venus smiling at him, and then his heart melts at the touch of his daughter's mother.

-

"Happy mother's day." Bucky smiles.
