It's as if here were drowning.
When Tony Stark hosts a party he's most likely getting drunk or doing something stupid.
Except he feels dead sober.
He should be paying attention to the blaring music and bright lights around him, but he's not. Instead he looks at the couple at the back of the room laughing and looking at each other as if the other had hung the stars.
He felt his breath get caught in his throat when Stephen looked his way.
He decides to play it cool and give him a fake smile as takes a sip of drink to avoid eye contact. When he finishes they're back talking with hearts practically in their eyes.
Jealousy, pain, and spite flares up in his chest as he looks at the lucky woman who Stephen cares for so much.
Tony could never hate Christine no, she was far too kind and considerate you could never hate her and yet here Tony is raging with envy on the inside.
He wants to look away but her can't, like a punishment of his past misdeeds. He watches as they continue to laugh and talk glowing with affection.
He watches as Stephen leans down to tell her something.
He watches as Christine blushes back in response.
He watches as they share share a kiss.
He feels his heart swell as he watches Stephen be with Christine, it's almost ironic she was everything he wasn't, down to earth, sweet, kind, and compassionate. They balanced out each other perfectly.
Tony didn't believe in soulmates and yet when looking at the pair it made him believe the universe did this out of spite, to taunt him as his love lives his life contently with another.
Someone that isn't Tony.
God he really should be doing some sort of work or look after Peter instead of feeling sorry for himself because he can't have what he wants.
He's to busy watching Stephen grab Christine's wrist as he leads her to an empty coat closet, probably to make out.
Tony finally summons up the courage to walk over to his room and promptly close the door behind him, while doing so he let's out a breath he didn't even realize he was holding.
And the let's out the loudest sob he's ever heard.
