Rainstorm pt1 (Sam Wilson)

The first time I saw Sam we didn't actually say anything to each other. I just happened to come by an office at the same time as he did on some mission we both can't remember the details to. It wasn't until a few years later when we both got 'blipped' back, that I started seeing more of him. After he went to live with his family, we ended up at the same place. An assignment kept me there for a month so I ended up going places locally with him.

At first it was just coffee, he was surprised to see me in town I think, and his sister was with him so I just said the first thing I could think of. He loves a good movie, maybe not as much as me but the first time we watched one together I went over to his place. I ended up staying the night after we started the third movie, he would tell you it was some Batman film set but I swear it was both Zombielands before we watched one of those. He's become a big cuddler, it's just taken a long time to get here. He asked me out a few weeks ago, since then it's been going amazing. We just click and I've never had to ask him if he feels the same way.

Bucky is with us, I'm sure Sam told him about us judging by Buck lifting his eyebrows has when Sam pulls me closer anytime he could.

We all know it's not a difficult mission, take the  information, try not to be seen until the threat nearby is gone, don't get caught. Simple, straightforward, and seems like a trap straight out of the book. This trip is supposedly 4-5 hours, just long enough for everyone to feel uneasy and for the storm to catch up to our location. Bucky told me once that in his hydra assignments he would often be in the rain, something about it covering up a lot of sound.

"Hey, they just told me they're sending a backup ship in half an hour to help us out if we get in deep shit once we're there" Sam pushed his shoulder up against mine, I turned to look at him.

"Sounds like we're in trouble Birdy" I think it's only been 2 hours since we left so they must have lost their faith in us. We don't want to say out loud that the three of us think we'll be ambushed, it's an unspoken agreement to ignore it until it happens. Not that it ends better or worse either way, so what's the point.

"Worst case is backup hauls us into the ship, all bandaged up and pissed off" he knows I'm worried. The weather isn't exactly my favorite in the first place and this feels like a death wish. But I still nod my head at him, and lean on his shoulder.

When we get in the area it's so windy we can barely make out where we need to land. After we get to the building we start searching for the main office, the floor plans are different from the real layout just like we thought. We're all wearing our 'discreet' outfits, completely black and more bulletproof than usual in case we're caught in the act.

"This is my fourth empty room, and still nothing about the real building plans either is there anything you guys found?" Bucky spoke over the comms, there's about 14 rooms on each floor so we all went to look in different ones.

"Nothing, and I still haven't seen any people on my radar, a window or something broke upstairs so keep your eyes ahead" Sam was in the room across from mine, so far none of them are interesting or incriminating. All of them have a desk either next to or across form a window, and a white board without any markers. There aren't any computers but each of the desks have various supplies that are useless to me. We make it to the third floor before we hear anything about the backup team.

"Backup is 3 hours out, storm delayed them" Sam sighs heavily and Bucky tells us to head into the room he's in. We get there and on the desk is an old desktop computer, Buck had turned it around and the screen had a blue background with 5 words

Basement floor has the records.

"Yeah because that sounds legitimate" I scoff and see a bookcase in the corner.

Sam notices it too and walks over to it, "I want to see if any of these books open a secret passage, that sounds like some bullshit they would pull since this is the first different room in the whole damn place"

He takes every book off the shelves and when he reaches up to grab a huge green book he makes a face and opens it.

"That better not be a fake book with a big red button inside" Bucky abandoned the computer, nothing he was doing changed the screen anyway.

"Actually it's green" he clicks the button and I can almost hear the eyeroll. Nothing happens in the room, "it looks like there's an elevator in the last room at this hall so what's the plan"

"I don't want to go down there and find some cheap knock off of another villains lair, shouldn't we wait? We don't even know if we can get out once we're there" I try to keep my voice level, it's scaring the hell out of me that they want to go down there with just us three.

"I can see all the way down, just one floor it looks like just a basement no warm bodies from what I see" Sam goes over to the door and it opens before he can touch it.

"I think we should go then, they're only what two and a half hours from here now?" Sam nodded his head and Bucky continued "we should go for it"

I may have a bunch of training but I'm no Iron Man, my tech suit is barely as advanced as Sam's and that's only because he insisted I get the best equipment they could 'afford' some regular human. I don't even have the eyepiece I just wear a normal helmet. Thats why he's always announcing what's going on to me and Bucky, he's really the only one who can keep that extra eye out.

"If you both think we can do it let's hurry up" I walk into the elevator and Sam presses the B button after the door shuts behind us.

The doors open to show a cafeteria looking area, horrible led lights every couple feet with off-white painted walls. The floor was plain black carpet with a desk with one drawer was placed in 5 rows, I'm not sure how many are in an aisle but it doesn't matter much. They all have various supplies on them, drugs on a few of them near the front but there were mostly weapons. We walk to the opposite end of the floor to see a wall of TVs.

"Still nothing, and I don't see any sign of gas leaks or bombs ticking around here" Sam walks up to the wall and looks to the right at a blank door. Bucky stays in the middle but we both walk to the door, he opened it and I rushed inside to make sure no one was in hiding. It was clear still just like the whole damn building, but there's a computer. The background has a shit ton of file shortcuts on it.

"I guess this is what they've been needing, maybe there's surveillance so we can see who cleared all this up and gave us the tip to get this shit" Sam starts copying the files over and I hear Buck shout a soft hey so I walk back into the main room.

"Only one of the screens lit up but it happened right after I saw him start the copying" he points to the left corner, it looks like four office rooms in the film. The time stamp is set for now and i start to see the room fill with fog.

"It's time to fucking leave" I almost run to Sam but he's already popped his head out.

"We can leave that downloading I'm not gonna disagree" Sam starts running towards the elevator and we speed up as well.

By the time we get in there are 14 more screens lit up. There's 24 in total and I'm guessing once it reaches the last one is when we're either dead or knocked out. I look around and see this floor has got it's own camera set, one in each corner. The button to the elevator isn't working and Sam immediately starts to work on it, me and Bucky share a tense look and I look at the ceiling for any types of panels inside.

"Bucky boost me up I'm gonna try to get out of this hatch I think we should forget that Sam" I turn around and it looks like 18 screens are up, they are turning on at random it looks like. Bucky had gone over to the corner, while he ran back I watched the camera each fill up one room, and then the gas started to do the next once it was finished. There weren't any hallways on the camera, they must have thought if any doors were open once all the rooms were filled it wouldn't matter. He boost me up and Sam curses loudly at the corner of the elevator. The buttons turned red and then shut off right after. I have to break a small glass window to open it up and it cuts the back of my hand a little. Once I turn the handle I pushed my other fingers underneath the lid and tried to gently pull my arm back through. I can barely hold the lid on my own, I managed to cut the back of my arm all the way through to my skin so I sign really loudly and slam the lid upright. Bucky lifts my up higher and I crawl through the hole.

"There's nothing up here or down there I think we should just try to climb up!" I shout down at them, Bucky grabs Sam's hand and helps him off the ground.

He lifts up Sam and we both pick up Bucky, we all took a different side of the wall and start heading toward the first floor door.

"Sam you really can't just spread your wings a little and haul us up? It looks like a good 30 feet that this 'basement' was underground" I can almost hear Bucky's air quotes and I start moving faster once I realize the walls were much shorter than his wingspan.

"If you want to try be my guest but who knows how flammable that shit is, and it's gonna start leaking in here from what I can tell" Sam leans back and shakes his head.

"Someone's fucking watching us or blocking my tech or both I can't get it out"

We're only halfway up and I start to see small leaks where the gas is coming down to us.

"It doesn't matter just mask up and when we get up there we'll deal with it" I reach around and find my mechanical gas mask and attach it to my normal headpiece.

The smoke is coming out of every door in the shaft and it looks like we're not that far anymore. Maybe 10 feet, but a loud clicking noise starts up and I feel sick to my stomach.

"God damn elevator just got activated and I can see at least two people outside the first floor door" Sam leans back again and starts messing with his suit again. The wings fold out fully but I can tell the actual jet pack part isn't functional.

The elevator starts moving up and Sam finally gets it working. He grabs us and we head up to the second floor doors.

When we reach up there the gas is so thick I can barely make out the room. I switch my lenses to show thermal and Bucky starts checking his weapons again.

"This gas is going to go through our masks within 3 minutes, if we take the window there should be enough cover for us to go through without them hitting us" Sam starts leading us through towards the stairs, it's the opposite of where we saw the shooters earlier, but he starts to slow down.

"I think that it's wreckless but I don't know how much time we have to debate another 'plan' where did-" I started off, but a large boom goes off across the hall. I turn around and see the floor that was in the elevator office crash down.

We hear shouting downstairs, I feel Sam grab my hand and Bucky reaches out to be carried as well. I close my eyes and Sam breaks through the window. We shoot up to the surrounding treetops and there's immediate gunfire around us. We all duck as he dodges through the branches, luckily it looks like they don't know exactly where we're at.

He starts to go lower into the trees and I can tell we're almost out of range from the building. I look up at Sam and before I can ask where the ship is, I hear Bucky shout. I don't know if he saw it and then drew his gun, or if he saw it and wasn't quick enough.

"SNIPERS SAM GET-" I turn around just in time to see a bullet go through Sam's suit.

I'm not sure what happened after he got hit, I screamed at some point. We started falling and Bucky tried multiple times to catch a branch. I try my best to wrap my body around him and grab his head. We stop suddenly and I realize bucky had managed to break our fall. He takes Sam down the tree and runs towards the ship. Once I make it I take over the ship, I can't look at him I think I'll have a breakdown if I let myself think about what's going to happen to him.

I have no idea if Sam will make the five hour trip and I can't do anything to help him.
