Erudite

I nervously made my way to Jeanine Matthews' office, feeling both excited and intimidated by the prospect of talking with the faction leader. As I got there I knocked on the door.

“Come in” I heard Jeanine’s voice.

As I entered the room, I was struck by Jeanine's intelligence and presence.

“Welcome, Beatrice,” Jeanine said, gesturing for her to take a seat.

I sat down, feeling slightly awkward. I didn’t know why but whenever I was near Jeanine Matthews I always wanted to impress her.

“I wanted to tell you that your IQ is 150," Jeanine said, looking at me with a thoughtful expression. "That's quite impressive."

I was quite shocked at the revelation but managed to smile, feeling a small sense of pride at the compliment. "Thank you."

“I want to train you to become a faction leader," Jeanine continued. "Considering that you would do well in your initiation. I have been observing you and I can tell you have the potential to be a great leader. So what do you think Beatrice?”

To say that I was shocked would be an understatement. I knew that I was smart but I didn’t know I was that smart. Jeanine Matthew the leader of Erudite faction just said she wants to train me to become a faction leader. Jeanine Matthew is going to train me to become the faction leader. This means I would get to spend more time with her I haven’t figured out what exactly I am feeling towards her but if I spend more time with her maybe I’ll be able to figure them out. Spend time with Jeanine Matthews. I liked that thought. But I am ignoring the responsibility I would have if I became a faction leader becoming a leader is not something easy.

“Can I have some time to think about it? This is not I something I will be able to decide right now.” I said.

“Yes, of course, I know it is not an easy decision to make. How about you tell me after you initiation is over. I have to observe other initiates as well so I will decide who to train after initiation. I would have started you training after it anyways.”

Then the door suddenly flew open. A Dauntless man walked in he looked 18 years old. He seemed in quite a rush because he was panting so he ran. Before Jeanine and I even had to react he said “Jeanine, we need to talk now.”

Jeanine looked surprised but recovered quickly, she turned to me and said “Beatrice our conversation is over so you can go now.”

So I stood up and walked out of the door, but before the door closed I heard the Dauntless guy say, “Max is planning to start the attack on Abnegation right after dauntless initiation is over. Some member of Erudite gave him the serum.”

I heard footsteps coming from behind me but when I turned no one was there. So I left wondering what attack was the Dauntless man was talking about it must be very important because he seemed very concerned and worried. Also why would he come to tell Jeanine about some ‘attack’. I thought about what he said Some erudite member gave max the serum. Serum to what? And it didn’t sound like Jeanine wanted that to happen. So maybe she didn’t want the attack to happen and that erudite member betrayed her. But then who is the Dauntless man was he Jeanine’s spy.

My terrain of thoughts is soon broken as I run into Christina. “Hey, watch where you are going Beatrice.”

“Oh sorry I really didn’t see you. I am a bit stressed”.

“What’s wrong” Christina asked.

I am not sure if I should tell her about my meeting with Jeanine or what the Dauntless man said. But the news of Jeanine training me to be the next faction would come out any way after the initiation so she would only be mad if I don’t tell her.

“It’s that Jeanine thinks that I can be the next faction leader and she would train me if I agree.”

“That’s amazing Beatrice, I know it will mean you have to take a lot of responsibility but you can’t possibly miss an opportunity like this one.”

“Yeah, you are right I can’t miss this I will take her offer.” Maybe I will be able to learn more about this attack since erudite initiation ends two weeks before the Dauntless initiation I could do some thing about it. I could ho to abnegation and tell my father and mother about it.

“Well, good luck Beatrice I have to go now Will offered to help me study wouldn’t want to keep him waiting.” Christina said while walking towards one of the library.

I have to tell my parents about the conversation that I heard to my parents at the visiting day. The only problem I didn’t know if they would visit me or Caleb.

Days went by until the visiting day finally came. When I woke up that morning I didn’t know that this day will change the way I feel about Jeanine Matthews and also the reason I will agree to be trained to be the next faction leader.
