Impatience is a Virtue
The coffee is bitter and too hot and lacks all the sugar Lexa would normally mix in to make it more palatable. However, it contains a ton of glorious caffeine and she thanks her stars that it’s doing it’s job…so she can do hers.
It’s not in Lexa’s nature to skip out on sleep, to hit snooze more than once, or be late to work. But it’s happened five times this month alone, and she’ll argue till she’s blue in the face that it’s not her fault. It’s hers.
“Her” being Clarke Fucking Griffin. The blonde bombshell whose smile always settles in her eyes, and speaking of, Lexa can’t help her new affinity for the color blue. But Clarke has been keeping her up at night and Lexa absolutely loves it.
Don’t get her wrong, there’s ways she could love it more, but the brunette can’t help but smile as she skims over last night’s text messages. Hours and hours of randomness and flirting that culminates in one of them falling asleep in the middle of a debate about Fletcher’s new hit single. Now that she thinks about it, it may have been her that dozed off first last night.
She could scroll back even further to when they first started “talking,” to the never ending game of twenty questions where they found out that they both enjoyed writing, hiking, and Thai food. To when they discussed their high school significant other’s and how fucking naive they had been when they were eighteen. To how they both now preferred a soft blanket and Netflix to going out to the clubs at the ripe old age of twenty-eight.
She could go back and read all those things again, but she refrains, mostly because she’s already done it countless times in the last six weeks and she’s at the point now where she’s clearly caught feelings. She knows because her cheeks hurt from smiling so much at the end of every conversation, and from the rush of tingly warmth that floods her body every time Clarke’s name appears on her phone’s screen.
Lexa does her best to stifle a yawn, but both her best friend, Anya, and her boss, Indra, notice and glare in her direction. An embarrassed flush reddens her cheeks, and Lexa mouths an apology as to not further interrupt the board meeting. Who’s bright idea was it to schedule one before eight in the morning anyway? Thank goodness for terrible coffee.
Halfway through the expense report presentation, Lexa feels her smart watch vibrate with a notification. Her heart soars in her chest as she nonchalantly glances down to read the message. She subsequently scrunches up her face in disappointment once she realizes it’s just her activity tracker notifying her that she’s currently behind on her step count today. Lexa internally berates her watch for being so damn judgmental; it’s not her fault she didn’t have the time to get in her usual run this morning.
Lexa’s body can’t help but respond in kind to the news article and bill reminder notifications that light up her phone’s screen a little while later. She feels a little foolish, but her gut reaction is excitement at the possibility that it may be Clarke. She always hopes it’s Clarke. She’s got it bad.
When mid morning rolls around, and she finds herself constantly checking her phone, she decides to just give in and initiate conversation. It’s earlier than normal, but Lexa’s kind of addicted to the other woman and all of her impeccable emoji usage.
Lexa (10:18 am): Sorry I fell asleep on you last night!
Clarke (10:22 am): I could only dream of being so lucky…
Clarke (10:23 am): 😏😈💋
Lexa nearly drops the phone, and her jaw, when Clarke’s response comes through. Looks like Clarke has got it bad too!
