Stargazing (LokiXReader)

“Okay, but that’s not even close to what happened.” Loki chuckles in response to the explanation of a constellation, “Thjazi’s eyes could never be that beautiful. Ridiculous story, I’d never do such things with a goat.” He shook his head in disappointment.

She held up her hands in defense with a smile, “Hey! I’m not the one who witnessed it, I only know the stories.” She pointed at the man lying beside her, “and you my friend - you are perfectly capable of having those rumors be true.” She rolled her eyes and smiled as his shoulders relaxed at such an assumption.

“I will have you know, your words have offended me, my lady.” His head turned to her, beckoning an apology.

She ran her tongue between her teeth to hide a smirk, “My apologies, my lord,” she bowed her head with the mocking accent she had conjured, “for I do not wish to upset you.” She stood up and curtsied a goodbye, “I will take my leave now, goodnight.” With a quick turn she hid her smile and sniffled her laughter as she took a few small steps away from where Loki laid on the purple blanket.

He shot up to lay on his elbow as he watched her begin an exit. A smirk played on his features as he allowed her to go, rather enjoying the taunt she was playing. He watched her figure disappear into the back door of their home, resuming his spot on the blanket under the sky. He clasped his hands behind his head, taking a deep breath and closing his eyes while the world fell into a symphony of noises around him. Thoughts of his wife filled his mind as he lay in contentment in their yard; all the smiles she cast at his mischief, the smirks she hid in attempt to hide her enjoyment of his antics, and the slow burning annoyance which sparked in her when he did not follow her lead - which must be bubbling now at the minutes he has spent in the yard and not seeking her company.

His last thought confirmed itself nearly the moment it came to him as he felt his surroundings change. He peaked one eye open to the ceiling of their bedroom, a yellow lamp casting light onto the moulding above him. Closing his eye once more, Loki shut down his own smirk and began listening to the room where he lay. He focused on the clock on the left wall, the slight drip from the bathtub faucet that never quite makes it off, the slight sway of the curtains from the night breeze, and the small creek in the floor under the weight of a rocking chair.

Loki smiled to himself, “You missed me so much you teleported me here?”

She shushed him, “Quiet, I just got her asleep. I need you to get her blankie.”

Loki opened his eyes and sat up, apologizing, “I’m so sorry, love. I didn’t even hear her cry.” He stood and crossed the room, conjuring the child’s lavender blanket. “Here you go, tiny.” He covered her legs and helped tuck the blanket around her body, “That’s much better, yes?” Loki smiled as he took the baby gently from his wife’s arms, suspending the girl on his hands as he looked down at her.

He crossed the room to the window, cooing to the child softly as to not wake her. “My lovely, stay asleep or she will have both of our heads.” Loki pleaded as the eyes of the child began to open, quickly shutting as Loki pulled her to his chest with her head in his elbow. He smiled down to the small puffy-cheeked brunette, running a thumb over her cheek as arms hugged him from behind.

The arms squeezed his frame gently, his wife humming in delight at the pair of them. “She wasn’t crying, but she did keep conjuring cookies which took more convincing to stop than I’d like to admit.” Loki’s chuckle rang in her ears and against her chest.

“Maybe conjuring was not the best place to start.”

She rolled her eyes as she pulled away from him, turning him to face her. “Yeah, more like the worst place to start.”

Loki hid the amused laugh on his face as he conjured the child’s bassinet and laid the sleeping bundle down into the cradle of blankets. “It’s the first one my mother taught me so that I'd be able to snack in court without having to interrupt the discussions.” He scrunched his nose as he looked over to his wife now sitting on their bed, “Father didn’t enjoy the break once every half hour.”

His wife contorted her face, “Once every half hour! Is that what we have to look forward to?” Her horror cast itself to him while he stepped towards her in delight.

“That's not at all bad,” he took her hands with a grin, “When Thor began his steps into manhood he had a full meal every hour and had a constant servant for snacks. He ate more than he breathed!” Loki laughed more at his wife’s response and pulled her into a hug.

She whined into his arms, “Gods! What did you get me into?” She dramatically called into the sky and shook her head with outstretched arms.

“Oh darling,” Loki smirked , “I’m right here, you know. No need to leave a voicemail.” He grinned to himself at his, hopefully, correct reference to Midgardian technology.

She bit the inside of her own cheek, attempting to hide her amusement at his response. “You’re lucky I like you.” He hummed in agreement as he kissed her forehead.

“I am the luckiest.”
