New Rules
Sitting around in the common room, it is clear that you were purposefully sat in the middle of everyone.
“Ok, everyone. This night did not go as well as we had hoped, but that is ok. We’ll get through it.” Steve began. You admire the way he commands the room. If there was any doubt who was the head alpha, there isn’t now. You also note the difference in his voice. It is less free and sterner than before.
“Alyssa, in regards to what just occurred. Due to the fact rules and expectations have not been established and against my instincts, there will be no repercussions to it, but do not be mistaken. If you EVER hurt one of us, you will not enjoy the consequences.” Steve directs at you. He is sitting at the end of a round couch where all can see him.
“This also applies if you try to hurt one of us and fail… cause ya know… Avengers?” Clint chimes in. While normally he would be chided for such a comment, the pack desperately appreciates a little humor to lighten the thick tension in the air.
Since the pack convened, the tension was so thick that you swear you feel muscle fatigue from pushing through it. You haven’t said a word since. The pack members, specifically Tony and Bruce, tried to assure you that you would be fine. They truly do not understand you. This side of you is one you need to hide. They deserve a ray of-
The ding of an elevator alerts the pack of an arrival. Bucky steps out through the open doors and heads to a seat on the couch. He looks like a wreck. His expression is anything but calm. To the average eye, it might look like nothing on his face, a strained expression of emotionlessness, but you know better. He looks anxious and is straining to hide his feelings
Without thinking about it, you stand up to go sit by him. As you sit on the cushion next to him, he scoots back. He is trying to avoid you, something you find twistedly amusing. The big feared Winter Soldier is avoiding you because he feels nervous/guilty around you. In a bold attempt to settle the guilty alpha, you scoot into his cushion rest your head on his shoulder, and grab his metal hand with your own.
Bucky tenses instantly and you turn your head to look at him straight on. “I’m Okay” you whisper to him. You know everyone can hear you, but you don’t care. He turns his head to meet yours and you are almost close enough to kiss. This isn’t a good time. He looks at you concerned and you respond with “Is this ok?” Not one to deny contact with his omega, he nods uncertainly. Pleased, you turn back to the pack.
“So what are these rules?”
Everyone had gone silent.
Steve stands.
"In this pack, there are general rules and there are individual rules. Alyssa, you will have a few rules due to your omega status and possibly more once we get to know you better. We won't be discussing all of the rules today, but we will talk about the basic ones.
First, No fighting. Arguing is bound to come about, but if it escalates to yelling, there will be consequences. Violence will never be tolerated and will be punished more severely.
Two is also a no-brainer. There will be no lying. Omitting important information is part of this. You don't have to tell everything and are allowed to keep things to yourself as long as it doesn't impact you or one of the others. It is good to note that this will go both ways. While we go on missions often and cannot share details, we will never lie to you about them. Does this make sense?"
You nod.
“There are two other key rules: Respect and safety. Respect is very important. This means no petty insults, respecting boundaries, and going through on promises.” Steve says.
‘Will they respect me’ you think to yourself. The definition of respect when it comes to omegas is vague or non-existent and given that two of the alphas were born in the 40s…you were not hopeful. Being too scared of the answer, you don’t ask.
“Alyssa, are you listening?” Steve asks, sternly. He is upset with your constant lack of focus.
“Yeah. sorry” you say quietly.
“Again, Respect,” Steve repeats, looking at you. “Safety means no lying about injuries or doing dumb things that will get you hurt. Lying is already a rule, but lying about an injury is a felony here. I promise you if you ever lie about your health, sitting will be very uncomfortable. I don’t mean to threaten you early on, but you need to understand how important this is.
These are our four rules for the entire pack. Now that we are complete, they may change. Now, there are plenty of individual rules. We all have them, including me, but we will share those with you later on gradually. The next few rules we will explain will have to do with your omega status.
The first is you cannot leave the tower without one of us. We don’t know how we--”
“Wait! What do you mean I cannot leave? How am I going to work? You already know I work at the zoo. You surely can't expect me to quit” you interrupt.
“Well, we were going to ask you to,” Natasha says.
You turn to her with wide eyes. “Then why did I even come here if you all are just going to take my life away from me?! I am not going to sit here and be your breeding bitch! She may be ok with that, but I am not!” You yell and point to Destiny. You try to stand up to leave, but Bucky has grabbed your arm, preventing you from walking away.
“Alyssa, please just-” Natasha tries, but you won’t hear it.
“No! And I told you before that I am not moving here!” You state.
“Alyssa, listen to me, right now,” Steve says. It is clear he wants to yell and possibly use his alpha voice but is restraining himself. “I just told you about respect, but you are struggling with that. You will not speak to my omega that way and will be punished for it. Next, we are not taking your life away. We are trying to do our job of protecting you. We can discuss your job, but you are in no mindset to be talking about this. You will sit down and listen to the rest of the rules. After your punishment and after you have calmed down, we can discuss all the rules.”
You want to argue, but decide to obey in fear of retribution.
“The other rules were going to be no hiding your drops and heats as well as no touching yourself.” Steve quickly finishes.
The more rules Steve lists off, the more this tightening in your chest grows. You are panicking and you know this, but you can’t stop the words coming out.
“No! You will not control my body. I don’t even want to, but this is my body, not yours. I am not yours. I am not your property. I am not your pet.” you raise your voice. You don’t want to yell, but you just can’t let that slide.
“Why do you have to fight everything I say?” Steve asks with a large, dramatic sigh.
“Because everything you say is outrageous” you refute. You stand up and walk over to him. It is clear you are challenging his authority, but you are too caught up to notice.
“Omega, stop being rud-” “Don’t call me, omega” “go sit back down.” “I don’t think I will” “Omega, now.”
You shudder at him repeatedly calling you omega and take a deep breath to stable yourself to no avail
“STOP CALLING ME OMEGA!” You bark. “I ALREADY TOLD YOU I HATE IT.” You turn to leave, but Steve grabs your arms.
“LET ME GO, YOU MONSTER!” You shout.
“Omega, know your place.” He growls out. He still isn’t using his alpha voice, but his world still affects you. Your reality is shifting. You turn to look at him and it is all blurry.
You see your father’s face in Steve’s and without thinking, you swing at him.
SLAP
The tension in the room is broken now. It is silent. You feel wetness on your cheeks, but your mind is running too quickly to care. ‘You need to get out of here’ your instincts tell you.
You run to the elevator and it immediately opens. You want to go home. Your shaking hands struggle to press the buttons and you manage to even push a few of the wrong ones. You back against the doors as the elevator goes down and sink to the ground. You are hyperventilating but you need to calm down. It is ok. It is ok. It. is. O.k
When the door opens on the 1st floor, you quickly leave but before you reach the doors to the outside you hear your name being yelled.
“ALYSSA STOP!” Bucky yells. You turn and see him running towards you.
“Please, Bucky. Please just let me go. I-I-I need to go home.” You go to turn but he grabs your hand.
“I won’t stop you, but here is my number.” He hands you a sticky note with a number on it.
“Please call back”
“I don’t know if I will,” You say, honestly. Turning, you leave the rotating doors, but Bucky doesn’t stop you. With quick steps, you run to the metro and sweep through the station. You get on the first train you see with no care to check which one it is.
You find a seat at the back of the car and pull your knees onto the seat as well. With labored breaths, you curl into yourself. What the hell went wrong and what is wrong with you?
