Chapter 3
As Sam woke up the second time, he stretched his sore muscles and sat up in bed. It was dark outside; he checked his phone but his battery was dead. He got out of bed and smile when he sees the note on the table, he chuckles and puts it in his pocket and left the room. As he steps in his room there was food and a note on his table.
‘Went out for dinner, tried to call you. Bucky drop by mid shift for your dinner. He said you were in his room. Be back soon – P’
Sam went to charge his phone, he walked over to the table and check what was inside. There was a chicken sandwich, a muffin and hot chocolate. Sam couldn’t help it but smile. Sam switch on his phone, there was a few missed calls from Loki and Peter, a few texts from random numbers.
‘Hey it’s Tony, hope you get back home safe! Hope you enjoy the party!’
‘Didn’t say goodbye, Jarvs said Bucky sent you home. Hope you’re okay – Steve’
‘The party was lit! Hope you’re still alive – Barton’
‘Hey, I dropped by to send you dinner, but you were still asleep, so I left it in your room. Text me once you’re awake – B’
Sam smiled at the last one, somehow Bucky had made him feel some kind of way. Like Sam had dated girls before but they never made him feel this way. His memories were hazy but he sure remembered how it felt to fell asleep on Bucky’s shoulders, he wanted to pretend to fall asleep but Bucky was so warm, and when Bucky held his arm close, Sam snuggled closer to him. Sam didn’t remember what their conversation was but he knew how in love he is with Bucky’s arm. Sam sighs as the memory.
Bucky was worried at work; he didn’t know if Sam had his dinner or was awake. Sam was dead asleep when he drops by during break time. He wanted to call Peter to check on Sam, but Peter was on a date with Loki. He wanted to rush back just to check on Sam, he doesn’t understand this feeling, when he dated others, he never felt this way at all. He got a few orders wrong; he dropped a couple of cutleries and he messed up the display rack. He was thankful Natasha was the supervisor that day, she had shaken her head a few times. Bucky decided to take a smoke break at the back of the store.
“You okay babe?” Natasha asked as she stepped out from the back door.
“I don’t know babe. I can’t explain this feeling. I’m worried for Sam, like there’s no text or call from him. I’m not sure if he ate his dinner already?” Bucky sighs as he took a puff of his cigarette.
“He’s your soulmate huh?” Natasha smiles at him.
“How would you know?” Bucky asked.
“The way you acted, you never been this way when you dated others. It’s the same ones Clint had when he dated me, it’s exactly the same. Clint was always clumsy but it’s like double clumsy.” Natasha chuckles.
“But don’t you feel this way too?” Bucky asked.
“I’m his soulmate, he’s not mine. That’s why I don’t feel the same way. Even if we’re not soulmates, we can still fall in love, but it’s harder with the challenges. Plus, I don’t believe in soulmates.” Natasha smiles at him.
“Hey, don’t want to bother both of you, but someone is looking for Bucky?” A colleague said as she opens the back door.
“Coming!” Bucky calls out as he took the last puff and throws his cigarette away.
As Bucky walks in, he smells this sweet scent. He felt his heart rate raising, as he walks to the counter, the person was facing the other way.
“You were looking for me?” Bucky asked as he taps the person shoulders.
“Yes, yes I was.” Sam turns with his brightest smile. Bucky, swear he wanted to jump into his arms and kissed Sam in the face.
“You’re awake!” Bucky cheered.
“Yes, I am, sorry didn’t text you, wanted to surprise you. Since you surprised me with dinner.” Sam chuckles.
“That’s so sweet of you. I end work in like 2 hrs though.” Bucky sighs.
“Sure thing, I’ll get a cup of coffee then, I’ll wait for you.” Sam smiles at him softly.
“Coming right up, what name should I put?” Bucky acted professionally.
“Yours.” Sam winks at him.
“You both are too cute. It’s on the house.” Natasha chuckles next to them.
Bucky went to brew the coffee while Natasha continued to handle the customer, Sam sat by the window seat. Sam had always enjoyed watching people, he took out a book he brought with him and starts reading it.
“I didn’t you like to read.” Bucky said as he stood next to Sam.
“And coffee for mine?” Bucky smiles as he hands him the coffee.
“Thanks. And yes, I love to read.” Sam chuckles as he took the coffee and took a sip.
“Sweet, like you.” Sam winks at Bucky, making Bucky’s inside turn.
“Hope you enjoy your coffee as much I enjoyed making it. I shall not disturb you then, continue reading.” Bucky smile softly.
“But I would enjoy watching you work instead.” Sam smiles at him.
“You’re such a flirt Sam, I bet your girlfriend would swoon.” Bucky chuckles.
“Who said I had a girlfriend or even straight. I like boys.” Sam said as he sips his coffee.
“I shall not disturb you any further, your girlfriend might kill me.” Sam chuckles as he looks over at the counter where Natasha was looking at the both of them.
“Hahaha, you mean Nat? She’s my bestfriends. And I’m not into girls.” Bucky chuckles and winks at him.
“Plus, she’s with Barton, they have been together for awhile now. Alright I get back to work.” Bucky reassured him.
Bucky actually felt comfortable coming out to Sam, he finally decided he was actually gay. Bucky couldn’t help it but smile as he walks back to Natasha. She sensed something had happen and she walks up to him as he was making more orders.
“What got you all smiley?” Natasha asked him.
“He’s gay and single Nat.” Bucky tries to calm his excitement.
“Well, I can see that. You going to make your move?” Natasha smiles at him.
“Maybe get to know him more. He’s like an interesting character, the more I talk to him, the more I want to get to know him. God, he makes my stomach do a huge ass flip.” Bucky sighs.
“You’re definitely in love babe.” Natasha chuckles.
As Bucky finally finished his shifts, he had packed some muffins for supper later. He grabs his bag in the pantry and walks over to Sam. Sam had fallen asleep mid reading, with his book covering his face. Bucky chuckles as he grabs the book off Sam’s face. Sam had the most beautiful face, flawless skin and the most delicious lips, he wanted to kiss them so badly. Sam stirred awake at the sudden light, Sam yawns and stretched his arms.
“Oh, you’re done with work?” Sam yawns.
“Yup, let’s go now.” Bucky said as he hands Sam his book back.
“Yeah, sure thing.” Sam said as he grabs his book and got up from his seat.
“Thanks Nat! See you Monday morning!” Bucky calls out before he left the store.
As they walked side by side, enjoying the cold air at night. Sam blows into his hands and rub them together, Bucky took his hands in his, and his left arm warms them up.
“Perks of having a warmer for a hand.” Bucky chuckles.
“Oh, I would love to hold them in winter. I love the cold but my body hates it.” Sam chuckles as he interlaced their fingers.
“Well, you can hold them every day. I’m a walking thermos.” Bucky chuckles as his stomach did another flip.
“I would love that.” Sam smiles at him softly.
They held hands as they walked back to college, it wasn’t that cold honestly. But Bucky didn’t understand why would Sam act like it was very cold. Bucky walks Sam up to his door, Sam still held onto his hands.
“It’s late, thank you for walking me home.” Bucky blushed.
“No worries. Also, I was wondering, do you have plans tomorrow morning? We could get breakfast, as a way to thank you for taking care of me today morning.” Sam asked.
“Sure thing, I’m free.” Bucky said.
“Alright I wake you up tomorrow okay. Get some rest, goodnight.” Sam said as he let’s go of Bucky’s hand.
“Sure thing, goodnight, sweet dreams.” Bucky smiles at him and walks over to his room.
Bucky shut the door and leans against it; he starts to miss the feeling of holding onto Sam’s hands. His room still smells like Sam. Bucky dumps his bag on his bed and grabs the pillow. He took a long breathe and inhale Sam’s scent. There was a knock on his door. Bucky drops the pillow and walks over to open the door. Sam stood there smiling at him.
“Did you forget anything Sam?” Bucky asked confused.
“Yes. This.” Sam said as he leans up and kissed Bucky’s forehead.
“Goodnight. Sweet dreams, I’ll see you tomorrow.” Sam smiles at him and walks back to his room, giving Bucky a small wave as he got in the room.
