Who Is In Control?
After Loki had motioned for Darcy to get into the cab, and she spoke to the driver, Darcy allowed herself to relax. Loki didn’t know where they were going and for now, she was in control. She recognised that being locked inside a moving vehicle with the green eyed god was something of a unique opportunity. This short cab ride was a prime opportunity to knock him off his game before dinner. With that in mind Darcy turned to look at Loki, who was already observing her in an almost predatory manner. His gaze was intense, reminding her of a snake coiled up, ready to strike.
“Can I ask you something?” Darcy probed.
Loki’s eyes narrowed minutely as he replied, “Well I suppose that depends on what you would like to ask”.
Darcy took a breath, pausing to collect her thoughts, “You’re lonely, aren’t you?”.
She could tell he was surprised. It was something about the way his mouth puckered, like he had just tasted something sour, and the furrow in his brow. Loki, for once, was not in control. Darcy, who herself was prone to impish behaviour, took utter glee from the sense of power that gave her.
As his gaze refocused from the dazed look it had taken on he replied with a terse, “you couldn’t possibly begin to understand what you speak of.”, as he turned his head to look out the window, effectively shutting the conversation down.
Darcy hummed to herself as she responded with a quiet, “Then why does it seem like I struck a nerve?”.
She would have pushed him further, if not for the sudden stop of the cab, or the way Loki’s fists clenched to such an extent that his knuckles turned white.
The driver looked into the rear mirror, and in a very New York told them to get out
Loki pulled out an expensive looking brown leather wallet, paid, then helped her out of the car onto the street. She turned around to orient herself a bit, found the restaurant she was looking for, and starting walking over.
When Loki saw what Miss Lewis was walking towards he tried to turn around, figuring this plan wasn’t worth the trouble. There could be nothing special about someone who chose a place such as this to eat at. Honestly, she was offered sushi but preferred this dive instead? As they neared the door to the restaurant, a place called Lombardi’s, he was eventually hit with the most delicious aroma, something he would never admit to noticing aloud.
Darcy turned around, looking over her shoulder at the confused would be king, “not what you expected, huh?”.
While they were led by the hostess over to a table at the back of the establishment Loki shook his head, no this was definitely not what he had anticipated.
