i trust her
The twins cuddled in silence for a few moments.
Pietro because he knew that his sister would tell him about her dream if she felt the need to and Wanda because she was still trying to process what had just happened.
To break the silence, the older twin decided to voice his thoughts, hoping that his sister would then do the same thing.
"You levitated in your sleep.", the boy whispered, staring up at the ceiling. There was a pause before his sister spoke.
"How high up was I?", she whispered back and Pietro thought for a moment before answering. "Maybe two meters."
After that there was silence once again.
Sometimes Pietro wished that he had the same abilities as his sister, especially in situations like this.
He had woken up because Wanda's constant presence in the back of his head had suddenly vanished for the first time since they gained their powers.
Now, after she had woken up, she still hadn't reconnected their minds and it was slowly but surely driving him nuts. Wanda had never shut him out before.
Still, he tried to remain calm for her sake.
"I spoke to matka.", she revealed, effectively stopping her brother's train of thoughts. Instead he frowned.
"What?", he asked confused.
"I spoke to matka.", his sister repeated but it still made no sense to him.
"Wanda...", he started carefully. "Matka is dead... She died when we were ten."
"I know."
"Then how could you-"
"I spoke to her spirit."
Pietro sat up with wide eyes, his brain finally catching up on what his sister was trying to tell him.
"You performed a seance ritual?", he asked in disbelief, knowing that his sister was not strong enough for something like that yet. As a young boy, his mother had told him that it took years for witches to master this kind of spell.
Wanda sat up as well, turning on her bedside lamp.
"Well... No.", she answered truthfully.
"What do you mean 'no'? You can't contact a spirit without a ritual."
"I know that, Pietro, but somehow I did."
She sounded frustrated now, like she had no idea how this happened either.
"Are you sure it wasn't just a dream?", he tried but regretted it the second he saw the hurt look on his sister's face.
"I know what I saw, Pietro."
He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Sorry, it's just... How is that possible?", he sounded just as lost as she felt.
"I don't know.", she answered, sighing as well.
There was a moment of silence, before Pietro spoke once again.
"What did she say?", he asked hesitantly.
"She said that I need to go back to Sokovia and find our old neighbor Agnes.", she answered, trying to remember what her mother had told her.
"Agnes is dead. She died during the bombing.", Pietro said with a frown. "Why would matka want you to search for her?"
"She said that her real name is Agatha Harkness.", the brunette remembered. She noticed her brother's face light up with recognition.
"You mean the witch Agatha Harkness?", he asked in disbelief but his sister nodded.
"That-... No, Agnes is not Agatha Harkness. We would have noticed that.", Pietro said confidently.
"If she's as powerful as the myths say she is then we wouldn't have noticed shit.", his sister argumented, making him rub his eyes.
"This is too much for me right now.", he said and in a second Wanda was by his side, hugging him and kissing his cheek.
"I know... I still haven't quite processed it all either.", she whispered as Pietro relaxed into her embrace.
"Will you go back to Sokovia?", he asked.
"I'm not sure. If I do, will you come with me?"
"You already know I will."
A grateful smile crossed Wanda's face.
"If we go... What do we tell Natasha and the others?", Pietro asked, knowing that it would not be easy to get the Avengers to let them go.
"We'll just tell them that we want to go back. I'm sure they'll understand, Sokovia is our home.", she said even though she knew that it wouldn't be that easy.
Silence filled the space of her room once again as both of the twins tried to think of a plan.
"What if I told her the truth?", Wanda suggested hesitantly.
Pietro looked at her, a serious expression on his face.
"No. You can't do that.", he told her in a tone which left no room for argumentation. His sister argued anyway.
"Why not?"
"Matka said the world is not ready for witches. You can't tell anyone."
His sister sighed in frustration.
"I'm tired of hiding, Pietro!", she raised her voice now in a mix of despair and frustration.
"Do you know how exhausting it is to hide your true self from everyone? Do you know how hard it is to calculate your every move to make sure nobody finds out who you really are?"
Pietro was at a loss of words, having had no idea that his sister felt this way.
"I want to use all of my powers and not just the once that 'Hydra gave me'.", she said making air-quotes with her fingers at the last part of her sentence.
"I just...", she said but a lump in her throat cut her off. Swallowing hard, she looked down into her lap where she had started fidgeting.
"I just want to be me...", she admitted silently.
Pietro's heart broke at her revelation.
"Oh, sestra...", he said softly, wiping away a few tears which were rolling down his sister's cheeks.
"I'm so sorry that you feel like this. I had no idea...", he admitted pulling her into his embrace as a form of comfort.
"She wouldn't hurt us, Pietro...", Wanda whispered into his chest. "I trust her."
The older twin closed his eyes, taking a deep breath.
"Okay. We will tell her.", he promised, although he still doubted if it was the right thing to do.
When his sister hugged him even tighter and whispered a relieved "Thank you." into his chest, he swore to himself that he would protect her from the whole world if he had to.
Nobody would ever hurt his sister again, even if it meant that they had to run away from the safety of Avengers Tower.
After a few minutes of comfortable silence, he turned off the lamp on the bedside table and laid back down, his sister still cuddling into him.
Both of them were feeling exhausted because of their heavy conversation but neither of them were able to go back to sleep just yet.
"She loves you, Pietro.", Wanda whispered into her brother's chest. He felt tears prick his eyes, knowing exactly who his sister was talking about.
"She asked me to tell you that.", Wanda added, carefully re-connecting their minds and letting the images of their mother's spirit fill their shared mental space.
Pietro closed his eyes, taking it all in while he let the tears roll freely down his cheeks. He didn't have to be strong right now, it was just him and his sister.
"You look so much like her.", he whispered, voice thick with emotion, something he rarely let happen.
Wanda pulled him impossibly closer, feeling all the pent up emotion leaving her brother's body. As a response, he kissed the top of her head.
"Už ti nikto neublíži. Sľubujem, sestra. (Nobody is going to hurt you ever again. I promise, sister.)", he choked out in their native language, before swallowing hard.
Wanda knew what he was implying. Although she was sure that Natasha would never hurt them, she didn't tell her brother that, knowing that he needed the comfort of being the responsible twin.
Instead she held him close while he cried himself to sleep, following not a few minutes after with the image of their mother replaying in both of their heads.
