Chapter 20

Turns out, having a sister was actually pretty awesome. If you look past the screaming and smelly poops, having a baby around meant lots of visits from family. And presents! For him and Kate, like the adults felt bad for only giving the baby stuff.

Plus, even though they weren't blood related, Wade felt such a strong bond between him and baby Kate. She would sometimes seek out his voice when he entered a room, other times she'd calm down from his scent.

The first time she smiled was because of Wade. The pup had been hovering over her from where she lay on their parents bed, blue eyes wide and watching him make funny faces at her. Lucky was curled up next to him, watching over the baby ever since she was first brought home. Their parents were sitting nearby, snuggling and talking about boring stuff as Kate smiled for the first time.

"You're smiling!" Wade cried, giggling when it made the Alpha and Omega scramble over to see. Lucky wagged his tail and licked her face in approval. There was lots of crying and snuggling and pictures and hugs and kisses and just honestly their parents being embarrassing with affection.

But Wade didn't care, you see. Cause Kate smiled for him first.

Wade had even had a fleeting thought that they might stop paying attention to him cause of the baby. But they always made time for Wade. They even would have Nanny and Poppy come visit and watch Kate so the three of them could go do something together. And don't get him wrong, those times were fun.

But what made the pup's heart feel whole was when the four of them went out together, especially when they had a reason to celebrate. Which, Wade would proudly tell anyone that listened that his Mama was a registered nurse now! He passed his test when Kate was a few months old. Daddy suggested they have a picnic in the park to celebrate so Lucky could come, which everyone happily agreed to. Even Kate babbled in agreement, since the baby was getting pretty close to saying her first word.

Since there was a park nearby and the weather was nice, the family walked there together. Mama pushed Kate's stroller while Daddy carried the basket and Wade held Lucky's leash. They passed by Sal's on the way so he could see the baby - as requested by the older Omega. It also meant Lucky got a slice while Wade got a breadstick. The pup didn't want to fill up, since he knew hot chimichangas were waiting for him. After a few minutes of Sal holding the baby, the five set off again to the park.

It was a cool park with a decent playground. Daddy laid the blanket out under a tree as Wade helped him set it up. Eyeing the playground, the pup turned to his parents with a hopeful smile.

"Can I go play?" he asked the pair while trying not to jump up and down in excitement.

"Of course pup. Don't be gone for too long, though. Don't want your chimichangas to get cold," Mama said as he sat down with Kate in his lap, Lucky curled up around him sleepily. He always took a nap after eating pizza. After getting the go ahead, Wade raced over to the playground which only had a few other kids playing on it. Happy to be on his own, Wade just went from one part to another, enjoying the slide, monkey bars, tubes and other fun things around. He finished with the swings, seeing how high he could go and waving when he saw his parents watching.

"Don't you dare jump!" he heard his Daddy call, which had the pup just giggle like a mad man as he swung higher. He felt like he was flying, secretly considering jumping anyway when a couple of teenagers crossed his path.

The sight of who was among them almost had the pup jump in sheer panic. Wade's swinging slowed to a stop as fear ran up and down his spine, his body unable to move from where he sat. The other two he didn't know, but the blonde teenager in the middle was his old foster brother. Nathan. From the very first house he went to after the death of his parents. Where Wade might've been the reason the Alpha teen got the shit beat out of them from their foster father. Well, Nathan had been the one to drink the older Alpha's liquor, but Wade was the one that named him when the man had accused Wade of drinking it. Wade quickly learned what 'snitch' meant that day...and had successfully avoided the teen up until this very moment.

"Well, if it isn't my lucky day. How's it going you little shit?" Wade's grip on the metal chain tightened as he couldn't help but swallow in fear. But, since he was who he was...the pup found himself opening up his big mouth.

"Hey Nathan. I'd say your face healed up nicely since the last time I saw it, but you know...now it's covered in puberty pimples." The Alpha teen puffed up in anger as the other two teens 'ooohed' before encouraging Nathan to hit him. Then things seemed to go in slow motion as Nathan pulled his fist back. Wade was frozen, all boxing instincts out the window as the fist slowly came towards his face. Clenching the metal chain so hard it hurt, the pup finally closed his eyes to prepare for the pain.

But nothing happened, so Wade opened his eyes to see a familiar metal fist curled around the teen's wrist. Blinking a few times, the pup sighed in relief when he realized he was safe. He watched as his Daddy bent the smaller Alpha's wrist back, smiling a little when Nathan cried out in pain.

"Touch my son and I'll fucking kill you," the older Alpha growled as the two teens not currently in pain step back in fear. "Now get out of here." His Daddy released the teen who scrambled off after his friends, both of which had already taken off running. Wade watched with a satisfied grin as Nathan and his friends ran while his Daddy turned to the pup and squatted in front of him. Gentle hands helped him release his hold on the chains before bringing his attention back to the Alpha. "You okay puppy? Did you know those boys?"

"Yeah, the one who tried to hit me was an old foster brother."

"What did he say to you?"

"Nothing, come on I want to eat," Wade said as he hopped off the swing, finally able to feel his legs again. Before he could take off, hands grabbed his waist before bringing him back onto the swing.

"Woah there, son. Talk to me, what just happened?" Wade shrugged his shoulders, unsure why his Daddy wanted to talk about it. He saw what happened and stepped in before Wade could get hurt. Why did he want to talk about it?

"Nothing happened. You saw it. Can I eat now?"

"Wade why won't you tell me what happened?"

"Because nothing happened!" Wade snapped. "I'm fine, it's over. 'Sides I'm not a snitch." The pup tried to hop off again but was caught by his father once more.

"Wade. What do you think a snitch is?" his Daddy asked slowly, kind of only making Wade that much madder.

"A tattletale. They tell on people," Wade said with huff, because he thought it was obvious. He stopped struggling against his Alpha when he settled for Wade standing in front of him instead of sitting on the swing, his father's hand resting on the pup's hips to keep him still.

"Okay. So how come when Charles got bullied at school you explained what happened? Or when the ER doctor was mean to Clint for being an Omega? What's the difference between those times and right now?" The question threw the pup off, who scrunched his face in confusion as he thought that over. Wait, how was that different?

"Those times..." Wade trailed off as his tried to think of an explanation before the obvious answer came to him. "Those times I was helping other people. That's why I wasn't a snitch." His Daddy hummed at him, which had the pup going from confused to mad again. "What?"

"Look kid, you're right about snitching. It is tattle-taling on someone. And you're right about it not being snitching when it came to your friend or your Mama. Because you weren't snitching, you were reporting. There is a difference. Which is why it's okay to tell me what happened with you and that teen punk. You'd be reporting. Sometimes...sometimes Wade I think you feel like you don't deserve good things. Like you don't deserve protection or comfort when you're feeling sad. And I know that's partially on me and Mama, since we haven't made you talk about your past...but I don't want you to think that reporting to us when someone hurts you is the same as snitching," Daddy explained as he ran his flesh hand through Wade's blonde hair.

The pup was silent and unsure what to say. What the Alpha had said made sense, but it made the pup question most of what he knew.

"You don't have to say anything right now, sweetheart. We can talk about it later. Let's go enjoy the rest of our day," Daddy said with a smile as he lifted the pup into his arms before planting a kiss on Wade's cheek. The Alpha hugged the pup close as he began walking to two back to their picnic.

"Hey boys, everything okay?" Mama asked, arms outstretched to bring Wade onto his lap. Baby Kate was leaning against Lucky, smiling gummily at them.

"Yup. Wade's going to report what happened to us when we get back home. He'll tell us all about that awful old foster brother, but for now we're going to enjoy the picnic."

"Sounds like a plan," his Mama said before kissing the pup's cheek. "For the record, I gave your Daddy permission to kick butt if necessary. Here baby your chimichanga is still hot for you." Wade wiggled on his Mama's lap and got comfortable as the Omega handed him his food and a fork.

"Oh, if they had tried anything I would've happily kicked their ass."

"Ass!" a small voice cried out as everyone turned towards baby Kate. "Ass!" she cried again with a big smile. Wade burst out laughing and slid off his Mama's lap, holding his stomach and laughing harder when he saw how angry his Mama was at his Daddy. The poor Alpha's eyes were huge as he slowly scooted away from the now very angry Omega.

"Her first word was ass!" Wade barked with laughter, which got both his sister to say 'ass' again as well as Mama to start smacking Daddy.

"OW doll I'm sorry!" Daddy cried with a laugh at the same time Mama growled "you IDIOT I told you so many times not to cuss in front of them!" Wade gently grabbed his sister out of the line of fire before he leaned back to lay on the blanket again. He cradled her on his chest as he continued laughing up at the sky. Their parents started racing around them, since Mama was chasing Daddy around with more threats and swats. It got his sister laughing too, her laughter getting bigger when Lucky leaned over to lick her face.

Wade stared up at the clouds, no longer feeling any fear or hurt. Only happiness. And a feeling of warmth deep in his chest from the sounds of his family around him.

Cause Wade Wilson was a lot of things, but above all else he was loved.
