Chapter 16
Wade couldn’t stop smiling. This has, by far, been the best week of his life.
On Sunday, Daddy got a call from Uncle Steve asking if Peter could stay with them for a few days! Harley had finally presented and they wanted to be able to focus on the twelve year old to help him through it, so Wade got to have multiple sleepovers with his best friend. On Wednesday, his class had the highest test scores and got to have a pizza and ice cream party. On Thursday, he found the absolute coolest rock while playing with Lucky in the backyard. And on Friday, he was getting adopted.
It felt unreal and like a fairy tale, the animated ones on tv that made him feel hopeful. Even Jimmy had been quiet about the whole ‘unlovable foster kid’ thing. He really only showed up when Wade was eating something and even then it wasn't to say anything bad.
Instead...the pup was thrilled to be getting adopted by a family that loved him. A Mama and Daddy and a Lucky who constantly reminded the pup he was smart and funny and most of all loved.
He had a family, an extended family and even friends.
And they were all invited to the adoption party his parents were throwing for him.
His Uncle Steve and Uncle Tony offered to host so they could have a pool party.
But before the party was the actual adoption, where Wade dressed in an itchy suit standing with Scott on one side and his Mama and Daddy on the other. Watched a judge ask his parents if they wanted to adopt him. To which the two said yes, both embarrassingly in tears. Wade was much cooler and enthusiastic with his response.
And he didn’t even get in trouble with the “fuck yeah I do!” Just smiled as all the adults laughed and rolled their eyes fondly at the pup. He didn’t even complain when his parents pulled him into a bone-crushing hug after the judge announced that they were officially a family.
Something did get in his eye when his Mama and Daddy kissed his face all over, but he wiped it away when they had their picture taken.
“Are you coming to the party, Scott?” Daddy asked the Beta, who’s eyes were almost as red as his parents.
“Yeah, figured I’d drop by for a bit. This is my favorite part of the job, getting to see kids find their forever homes.”
“Scott you’re crying again,” Wade pointed out with a little whine, wanting to get past the crying part and onto the cake and pool part.
“He’s happy for you pup, we all are,” Judge Hill said with a smile as she passed by the group. “Now if you will all exit my courtroom, I have another case in a few minutes.”
“You heard the lady, let’s go!” Wade cheered as he jumped up and down in excitement. He ran around the three in circles before his feet were suddenly swept up in the air. The pup let out a shriek of laughter as strong arms held him up high and tickled him mercilessly. “Daddy!!”
“If I put you back down will you chill out?” his Alpha asked with a fake growl, no longer tickling but holding the pup up high. Wade let a few more giggles out as he soaked in the smell of happy family.
“I want caaaaake,” the pup whined in explanation, letting his limbs fall and flopping himself still in his father’s hands.
“Oh poor puppy, having to wait minutes until you can eat your ice cream cake,” Mama copied his whine and sassed at the pup, getting a pout out of Wade.
He wiggled again until his Daddy brought him down and rested him on his hip.
“You might want to get me cake soon, Mama. Or else I’ll tell Scott the truth about living with you two. How you really just pimp me out to steal drugs from little old ladies.”
“Well we better get you to your uncles’ house then. Pretty sure the judge said something about no refunds and I’d hate to have to return you without getting my money back,” his Alpha teased as led the group out of the courthouse and into their cars. Wade vibrated with excitement the whole ride. The second they pulled up in front of his uncles’ house surrounded by cars, the pup unbuckled, jumped out and raced up the walkway.
He heard his parents call for him, so he at least stopped in front of the door.
“Can’t I go in??” he called back to the slowpokes. He could see his Mama look down at his belly with a frown, and Wade immediately felt bad for rushing them.
His Mama was definitely pregnant, but it was something they weren’t allowed to talk about. Daddy had called it a ‘temporary unspoken rule,’ meaning that they could cuddle close with Mama and even touch his belly - but they couldn’t talk about it. Apparently before they had Wade they really wanted a baby for a long time but kept losing them. And even though both he and Daddy could sense there was a baby in there - Mama really didn’t want to talk about it. So they didn't talk about the baby growing in Mama's tummy.
Wade was a little jealous at first, but since then the two cheeseballs constantly reminded the pup how much they loved him he quickly got over it.
“Go on in puppy. We’ll join the celebration in just a second,” Daddy called to him, opening Mama’s door and holding the Omega’s hand. Wade considered going back to them, but the combination of reassuring smiles from his parents and the sounds of people laughing inside the house gave him the confidence to open the front door.
The pup’s smile quickly returned to his face when he did, blushing at the group of people instantly cheering for him. Peter was the first to run and pull him into a hug as everyone congratulated Wade on his big day.
“Hey nephew!” Uncle Tony called with a big grin. “Everyone, the guest of honor has arrived!”
“Let me see my grandbaby!” Nanny called as he and Poppy pushed through the small crowd to get to Wade. After prying Peter away, the two brought him up into a hug, Wade giggling as they kissed his cheeks. Everyone came around to congratulate him, the pup delighted to also see Sal along with Cable and Logan had responded to the invite.
“Hey Sal!”
“Hey Wade, thanks for inviting me.”
“Logan! Cable! I’m adopted!”
“That’s why we’re here, bub.”
“We’re happy for you, pup. Now I believe you owe me a rematch basketball game? Mr. Stark told me there’s a hoop in the pool…”
“Yes!” Wade shouted, pumping his fist in the air. He turned around, looking around and smiling when he saw that his parents had made their way inside. The pup ran over to them, bouncing up and down. “Daddy do you have my swim trunks? I have to kick Cable’s butt in water basketball!” Plus he wanted to get out of the itchy suit.
He’d already taken the jacket off in the car and was ready to get out of the rest of it too.
“Alright alright puppy! Mama’s got your bag, hang on,” Daddy said with a teasing smile, grabbing Wade’s backpack and handing it to the pup.
“Are you guys not going to swim?” Wade asked the two, maybe bringing out his ‘puppy eyes’ along with a pout.
“I didn’t plan on it, but I’ll borrow some of Steve’s trunks in a bit. Mama and I should say hi to all your guests first.”
“You’re such a pushover,” Mama said to their Alpha with a smile.
“Yeah and you love it,” Daddy said back to him before pulling the Omega in for a kiss.
“I’m going to go change in Peter’s room. You guys are gross,” Wade teased, dodging the playful swat from his Mama before running off to change. Peter followed him, excitedly chatting about all the food Uncle Steve and Uncle Tony had bought for the party. They two stuck together throughout the party, making sure they were on the same team to kick Cable's ass.
It was seriously the best day of Wade’s life. His friends and family went from playing in the pool to playing games inside, back to outside in the pool again before coming back inside to eat cake.
It had gotten late and all of the guests had left at some point, each telling the pup how happy they were for him before leaving. The remaining immediately family sprawled out over the couches, happy and tired from the party. Wade had finished another slice of ice cream cake before coming back to join them in the living room, walking over to his Daddy who was sitting by himself in an armchair.
“Where’s Mama?” Wade asked before yawning, stretching his arms above his head.
“He went to lay down in the guestroom. Do you want to join him?” Wade shook his head no before climbing up onto his Daddy’s lap. The Alpha smiled and hugged the pup close, which had Wade turning in his arms to scent him. If only as a reminder that this was all real. Bonfire, Wade thought with a happy shiver as he maneuvered around on his lap to sit and play with the Alpha's robot hand.
“Hey Dad, can I have some more cake?” Harley asked the Omega who was cuddling with a sleepy Peter on his lap. Wade had watched the pup eat almost half of the cake as it was. Wade honestly wasn't even mad, he was just impressed with his cousin.
“Harley if you eat any more you’re going to have a tummy ache. And then you’re going to come whining to me about it,” Uncle Tony said with a frown
“No I won’t Daddy, pleeeeeeeease?” the pup asked with a whine, getting a chuckle out of his Papa who was laying out next to the Omega.
“Alright bambino, but don’t come crying to me when you’ve got an upset tummy, okay?” Uncle Tony asked as Harley took off back towards the kitchen. Wade watched his cousin with a smile until he felt a light tap from metal fingers.
“Did you have a good party?” Daddy asked Wade who turned his attention back to his father. The pup just smiled and nodded against the man’s chest.
“Hey, I need a more verbal answer for my ego, nephew,” Uncle Tony said to him, winking when Wade finally looked over at the man.
“Don’t listen to him Wade, his ego is plenty big enough as it is,” Uncle Steve teased, earning a smack upside his blonde head that got a laugh out of Daddy.
“Don’t be mean, Papa,” Peter argued sleepily as he snuggled more into Uncle Tony's embrace.
“Yeah Papa, don’t be mean,” his Daddy mimicked in a teasing tone before addressing his Omega uncle. “Thank you Tony, this was amazing. Checked off all of Wade’s boxes - minus The Rock making an appearance…”
“He’s filming a movie. But he loves me and promised he’d meet you in person soon.”
“He what now?” Uncle Steve asked before Wade decided to interrupt the Alpha’s famous jealousy.
“It was perfect Uncle Tony,” Wade praised with a sleepy grin, blushing a little when he felt a kiss on his head. “Petey and I can wait to meet Dwayne Johnson some other time.”
“Can wait,” Petey confirmed quietly, eyes closed as the adults laughed. It was then they heard a whine coming from the kitchen and a moment later a sick looking Harley joined them.
“Daddy,” the older boy whined, getting another laugh out of everyone awake. Wade watched with a sleepy smile as his Uncle Steve laughed while Uncle Tony groaned.
“No, no bambino I warned you of this exactly! And what did I say? Don’t come crying to me.”
“But Daddy,” Harley pouted, hands covering his stomach as the pup hunched over in pain.
“No buts. You’ve literally done this to yourself young man.” Wade couldn’t help but chuckle when his cousin turned to his Alpha uncle.
“Papa,” the boy whined to his father, the twelve year old going so far as to pout to the blonde Alpha.
“You can’t seriously think -” Uncle Tony started, stopping when the blonde Alpha held his arms out invitingly to the pup. “Steven Grant!” the Omega cried in betrayal as Harley happily climbed on top of the Alpha and laid on him, much to the amusement of Wade and his father.
“My puppy needs his Papa,” Uncle Steve pouted up at the Omega, wrapping his arms around Harley and stroking the pup’s back.
Wade watched the two with a smile, wrapping the robot arm he was playing with around his body. Listening to the sounds of his uncles playful bickering, he let sleep take him as his Daddy held him tight.
