Chapter 14
Clint woke slowly from the bed shifting around him, blinking awake in confusion when he noticed it wasn’t just him and James in bed. A sleeping mop of blonde hair laid between them as the Omega carefully moved to face the Alpha climbing out of bed.
What happened? Clint signed to the frowning brunette.
He ran away last night. Even though the pup was safe and laying right next to him, Clint startled awake as his mate waved his hands to calm him down. It’s okay doll, he’s home. He found out about the pregnancy and thought we were going to give him back.
The Omega pouted and cuddled closer to his puppy. His sweet, insecure and adorable puppy.
I’ll go make us some coffee, his mate signed with a sad smile.
As James left the room, Wade began to stir in Clint’s arms. With his little face buried in Clint’s chest, he began to murmur something that of course Clint couldn’t make out.
“Hang on pup let me get my ears in,” Clint said to the pup as he reached back for his hearing aid, popping it in before wrapping his arms around the pup again. But Wade just mumbled against him again, getting a chuckle out of the Omega. “Not even my aids could pick that up, puppy,” the Omega replied as he moved one hand to gently pet the boy’s head.
“Did James tell you what I did? ” Wade quietly asked against him, thankfully not as mumbled as before.
“Yeah he did and he told me why. Did he tell you that we’re never giving you away? Never ever?” Clint asked as he kissed the top of his son’s head.
“He said...he said you guys were going to adopt me.” Clint pulled back at that, just a tiny bit jealous and angry - which only got a chuckle from the pup. “He also said you’d be mad that he got to tell me first.” Which, had the Omega scoff in disbelief.
“I’m not mad, he just made me a promise and then broke it. Like a backstabbing coward,” Clint growled as James suddenly returned, feeling smug when the pup laughed and his mate just looked confused and worried.
“I’m not the backstabbing coward you’re talking about, right?” the Alpha asked with a pout, walking over and handing the Omega his coffee. Clint sat up slowly, deliberately taking a long drink from his mug before responding to his mate.
“Who told Wade he was getting adopted?” Clint asked before downing the rest of the drink and settling back against the headboard, cuddling his pup close. “Because it wasn’t me.”
“Doll, our son thought we were getting rid of him!” James whined, Clint keeping a straight face when it only had their pup laughing harder.
“How about you go make breakfast tacos and I’ll consider forgiving you, Alpha,” Clint said with a faux glare as he handed his mate the empty mug. The Alpha fake-glared back before he leaned down to kiss the blonde who still puckered his lips in response. No matter how mad he was at Buck, he never turned down a kiss from his mate.
“Love you, my silly Omega. Love you too, my silly pup,” James said before leaving the room once again. Alone with Wade once more, Clint shuffled the boy closer to him. They needed to talk about something serious.
“Wade, honey you believe us right? Did James tell you how Tony’s lawyers have the papers drawn up? That we love you and you’re stuck with us forever?” Clint asked the pup who blushed at the question. The Omega gently brought Wade’s chin up so the boy was looking at him when he answered.
Wade didn’t answer verbally, but nodded while looking into Clint’s eyes with an adorable blush.
“Good. So since you know that we love you and you are stuck with us forever, I need you to promise me something. Okay?” Clint asked, waiting for the pup’s nod before continuing. “I need you to promise me that you will never run away again.”
Wade opened his mouth as if to protest but Clint barreled on.
“I need you to promise me, Wade. You can hide in your room if you don’t feel like talking to me or James right away. But please, don’trunaway. You’re safe and you’re home now...but that isn’t always how it ends up for pups who run away. I had a friend when I was a few years older than you. She ran away and...baby I never saw her again. I found out...bad things happened to her and she was found dead. That can’t happen to you, Wade. You’re my son,” Clint choked on the last word, not expecting but loving the attack hug he got from his kid.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry,” the pup whimpered in his arms. “I promise I won’t run away.” Wade smelled sincere, which had the Omega relaxing a little around him. Toned down the protective instincts raging inside the Omega's chest.
“Thank you baby, that's all I needed to hear. Don’t cry now, everything is okay,” Clint said with a smile, kissing the mop of blonde hair and hugging his pup close. “I love you.” The Omega let out a confused grunt when the boy pulled back out of the hug to look at Clint.
The older blonde watched as Wade pulled his hands away before bringing them up to sign and verbally say aloud, “I love you Mama.”
The statement broke Clint's brain as the Omega gaped down at his kid. He then broke into a huge smile and pulling the pup back into his arms.
“That’s right baby I’m your Mama. And I love you so much.” Clint felt his eyes water as he kissed the pup again, who began to groan from the affection. It got a laugh out of the Omega who finally let go of the boy. Brushing some hairs out of his face, Clint smiled at the blushing pup. “Hey. Wanna go freak Bucky out by calling him Daddy?”
“Yeah!” Wade cheered, rolling backwards off the bed and racing Clint to the kitchen with Lucky on their heels. The Omega could tell when the pup was feeling overwhelmed. And even if though this time was from happiness, he knew the pup wanted a distraction.
“You should wait until he’s holding something, see if he’ll drop it,” Clint whispered to Wade with a wink on their walk to the smell of frying bacon. “Breakfast almost ready, my Alpha?”
His handsome mate turned around and smiled at the two before grabbing cups to fill with orange juice.
“Hello my favorite blondes. Yes Lucky that includes you too,” James said with a smile as he reached down to pet their dog. “You guys okay with orange juice?”
“Yes, thank you love.”
“Yeah, thank you Daddy,” Wade said so nonchalantly that Clint almost forgot he was doing it. Regardless, he got to watch as his husband froze and almost dropped the full glasses, just spilling a little orange juice on the counter. His handsome face turned to awe before the Alpha’s eyes became misty.
“What did you call me?”
“He didn’t drop anything,” Wade said with a pout to Clint, who shared a chuckle with the smaller blonde.
“Wait, this wasn’t to make fun of me, was it?” James asked, demeanor changing along with his scent. The Alpha's body suddenly screamed hurt and had the Omega immediately feeling guilty for the suggestion. Clint even shook his head, opening his mouth to explain when their pup beat him to it.
“No! Mama just said it might make you drop something. He said I could call you that. I...I can call you that, right? Do you...do you want me to call you something else? I can...I can stick with James...”
“No you, you can call me that,” the Alpha said dumbly, scent doing a one eighty back to awe.
“Good, cause you’re stuck with me right? You’re...you’re both my parents now, right?” poor Wade asked, scent and posture wreaking of insecurity as he stared down at the counter. Handing Clint the spatula, James walked around the kitchen island and pulled the pup into a tight hug.
“Fuck yeah we are.”
“James!” Clint groaned exasperatedly, wondering if he should even continue the charade of getting them to quit cussing. Plus, with the way the father and son were embracing, the Omega didn’t have it in him to push it any further.
Just watch his family fondly, unconsciously rubbing his swollen tummy.
