Chapter 6
On the drive to his parents house - Wade asked the pair about a million questions. Which was semi annoying and semi cute, since it also reminded him of Clint.
“What are their names?”
“Do they work?”
“Are they retired?”
“Are they religious?”
“Are they nice?”
“Do they have a dog?”
“Why don’t they have a dog?”
“What do Harley and Peter call them?”
“Do I need to call them that?”
“Do they like chimichangas?”
Bucky and Clint took turns answering the pup’s questions, each one more adorable than the last. Until that is, Wade took a break from the enthusiasm and asked a question in a quieter tone.
“Will they like me even though I’m not related by blood?” Bucky was driving but shared a look with Clint before the Omega turned around in the front seat to face the pup.
“Wade, you know Harley isn’t related to them by blood, right?”
“What?”
“Baby, Steve met Tony when Harley was your age - six years old. He isn’t his biological Papa and Bucky’s parents didn’t care about that. Trust me puppy, they are going to love you. Bucky’s Ma is going to stuff you full of cookies and his Pop -”
“- will share embarrassing stories of me when I was little. There’s pictures and home videos of me too. Also she will want to know all your favorite toys so she can spoil you on your birthday and Christmas. There’s nothing to worry about, pup,” Bucky added as they pulled up to his parents’ home.
Tony’s car was already parked outside, since Bucky had asked them to come so their nephews could take some of the attention away from Wade. Plus the pup was always more comfortable when his bestie Peter was in his near vicinity.
The three got out of the car and Bucky noticed their foster pup grabbing Clint’s hand as they made their way inside. The smell of happy family and fresh baked cookies filled the air. But the Alpha moved to stand protectively in front of the two when they heard the loud noises coming from the living room. As they walked further in they found the source of the commotion - they were all playing a game of candyland.
All attention turned towards them when the group noticed the three.
“Wade!” Peter yelled, jumping off his Papa’s lap and running over to the small blonde before wrapping him up in a hug. Wade seemed to temporarily forget his shyness and instead yelled Peter’s name in return as the two jumped up and down adorably.
Steve and Tony were nestled together on the couch while Harley and Pop sat on the floor on the other side of the coffee table.
“This must be my new grandbaby!” Ma cheered as he walked in, put a plate of cookies down and made his way over to them. He didn’t try and pull Wade into a hug, instead stopping in front of the pair of pups still hugging each other and waving. “Hey honey, I’m your Nanny. Do you want some cookies?”
Wade looked over to Bucky and Clint, who smiled and nodded encouragingly.
“Nanny makes the BEST cookies!” Peter exclaimed, grabbing Wade’s hand as he led the two over to the table. “We were playing candyland, but we can start over now that you’re here!”
“Peter you’re only saying that cause you’re losing,” Harley teased as he grabbed two cookies, earning a light smack from Pop.
“Hey now, you’re all losing to Poppy. And I will graciously allow a restart since I am just too superb at this game. Wade honey come sit down. You can call me Poppy and have as many cookies as you want.”
“Hey -” Bucky started, cause yes he wasn’t ashamed to admit he didn’t want his pup to get a tummy ache later.
“Oh sweet, sweet deja vu,” Steve mumbled with a smug grin before their Pop loudly stated “you have no say at Nanny and Poppy’s house! If my sweet new grandson wants cookies he can have cookies!”
“I’d give you an apology but you’re too smug for your own good,” Bucky sneered at his brother, walking over to flop on the vacant loveseat with only a small pout while his foster son began to stuff his face with sweets..
“What? I’m happy for you. And if I get to experience some sweet karma in the process then that’s just a perk,” Steve said, the smug smile still on his stupid face.
“Where’s my favorite sibling when I need her?” Bucky groaned, leaning into his Omega when the blonde came over and sat next to him.
“She’s studying for her exams. Unlike my two stupid boys, Becca is at NYU and thankfully did not follow her brothers’ footsteps trying to give her parents heart attacks,” Pop said with a pointed look at Steve and Bucky - who both rolled their eyes at the older Alpha. “She said we probably won’t see her until Christmas.”
“That’s too bad, Aunt Becca is awesome. Hey Poppy - you know what Wade should see?” Harley asked the older Alpha with a mischievous smile.
“No, Harley…” Steve faux growled - though his smell was only playful - at his oldest, who just smiled as Bucky groaned at their inevitable fate.
“I almost forgot! Thank you baby,” Pop said, kissing the smaller blonde's head before leaving the room.
“You happy with yourself?” Steve asked Harley as Tony gently patted his Alpha’s shoulder.
“It was inevitable honey.” Wade watched with a curious expression before turning to Bucky.
“Feel free to tell her no,” Bucky said to his foster kid, just as the woman returned to the living room with several photo albums in her arms.
“No I love these stories! Good idea Harley,” Peter said enthusiastically, just as his older brother stuck his tongue out to their Papa. Steve, the mature Alpha he was, returned the favor.
“Yeah but Wade has the ultimate say, maybe he doesn’t want to see me and Bucky in matching tutus,” Steve tried, but the statement made the pup’s eyes bulge and a giant grin spread across his face.
“Um, yeah I do!” Wade cried as he crawled on the floor closer to where the pictures were. Bucky watched with a smile as the pup - without any prompting or hesitation - crawled into their Pop’s lap and began looking through the pictures.
“What’s the story with the tutus again?” Harley asked innocently, because even though he and Steve weren’t related by blood - he was very much the little shit Steve was at his age.
“Nature versus nurture huh?” Clint mumbled into Bucky’s ear, clearly thinking the same thing. The Alpha draped an arm around his mate, kissing the blonde’s temple as the pair watched the chaos unfold in front of them. Steve had gotten up to chase Harley around, Tony and Peter cheering the younger blonde on as Ma acted as a human shield for the giggling boy.
“Mama, move so I can grab my son.”
“Nope. Harley here was just being a good cousin to Wade.” Clint giggled and snuggled closer to Bucky.
“Yeah Steve, Harley was just being a good cousin,” Clint mimicked the older Omega, laughing more when Steve reached for a pillow and threw it at the shorter blonde’s head. Bucky of course caught it before it could reach its target, which only made the pups laugh more.
“Poppy you’ve known Clint since he was my age, right?” Wade asked the Alpha, who lit up at the name and nodded her head yes. “So do you have pictures of him too?”
“Wait -” Clint said as the room erupted in laughter. Since their Ma was distracted, Steve made his move and grabbed Harley before tickling him mercilessly. Bucky held his Omega back, kissing his pout and preventing him from intervening.
“Our pup wants to see what his parents were like when they were his age,” Bucky whispered in Clint’s ear. “Plus it’s only fair,” he added more loudly as Steve finally put his eldest down.
“Yeah Clint it’s only fair,” Steve mimicked Bucky, moving back to sit next to his mate.
“You are so hot when you are immature,” Tony deadpanned, rolling his eyes at the goofy grin and kiss cheek from the Alpha.
The smell of happy family wafted through the room as Bucky took a moment to breathe it all in. He stole a glance at his foster pup and couldn’t help the smug smile on his face when he saw that not only had the photo album been abandoned - but Pop was showing Wade his phone; the two scrolling through toy websites as the pup pointed at various future presents.
Loved, welcomed and spoiled - just as Buck had promised.
