Summary
I have seen a lack of male x readers so I figured I would try my hand at writing some. This whole thing will take place from Captain America the first avenger and the goal is to go through till the falcon and the winter soldier, so get ready for a ride. there will be about 7 or so installations if you kind folks plan on riding that out with me. I may re write it as I go to add a NB or Female version of it with the pronouns and such being the only change? but im not too certain. This story will be in third person so I wont be writing like "you did" this or that. If I get requests to change it to you instead of he etc. I will. Also I will try to update as frequently as i can or at the very least every Wednesday should my job permit me to do so lolSome homophobic words and terms will be used, its the 40's. if the swearing or words like fairy and queer bother you, read with caution. there may also be slight usage of "hate speech" or terms from the 40's, such as Krauts and Ratzy and the like but i will keep it to a min, i dont want that to be the main focus but i also want to keep it at least slightly period accurate. anyhow, i hope yall enjoy the read!!I do not own you or the Marvel cast.

It Was Done With Good Intentions

Steve sat across from Peggy as he secured his parachute. “The Hydra camp is in Krausberg, tucked between these two mountain ranges. It’s a factory of some kind.” She said, reading off the map and the positions to Steve. “We should be able to drop you right on the doorstep.” Steve shook his head and replied to Howard. “No, just get me as close as you can.. You know you two are gonna be in a lot of trouble when you land.” he said to Peggy as well. She raised an eyebrow at him. “And you won’t?” Steve looked up as he continued checking himself over, making sure everything was in place and secure. “Where I'm going, if anybody yells at me, I can just shoot ‘em.” she gave him a pointed look, concern clear in her voice. “They will undoubtedly shoot back.” He shrugged a bit before knocking on his shield for a moment. “Well, let’s hope it’s good for somethin’.” Howard glanced behind him before turning his attention back to the sky. “Agent Carter, if we’re not in too much of a hurry, I thought we could stop off in Lucerne for a late night fondue.” Peggy just rolled her eyes a bit before exchanging a look with Steve, noticing him looking a bit worried. “Stark is the second best pilot I've ever seen. He’s mad enough to brave this air space. We’re lucky to have him.” She said softly with a gentle smile. Steve tightened his glove a bit before looking up at her. “Who’s the best then?” She let out a small laugh and an attempt at a smile. “Captain Cohen. Never seen a pilot like him before, but Stark is just as mad, if not more than your.. Our friend.” she said before they shared a small smile before Steve dropped eye contact and looked over at Howard then back at Peggy, gesturing between them. “So, are you two… Do you.. Fondue?” He asked sheepishly before Peggy raised an eyebrow at him, clearly unimpressed with the question. “I’m not even going to bother responding to that. This is your transponder. Activate it when you’re ready and the signal will lead us straight to you.” Steve looked at the piece of technology that Peggy placed in his hands and looked over towards Howard. “Are you sure this thing works?” Howard let out a small laugh. “It's been tested more than you, pal. I would sure hope it works.” he said just before their aircraft was under fire. Steve stood up immediately, taking his shield with him while Peggy stood up after him. “Get back here, we’re taking you all the way in!’’ She yelled at him over the noise. He ignored her as he got in position to jump. “As soon as I'm clear, you turn this thing around and get the hell outta here!” She scoffed at him and raised her voice back to combat all the noise. “You cannot give me orders!” he looked over to her and gave her a small smirk. “Hell, I can't! I'm a Captain!” he said with a broad smile before pulling his goggles over his eyes and jumping out, leaving Peggy to watch his descent.

Steve ducked out of view and into the brush as several vehicles passed by him and into the hydra camp. After the last vehicle passed by him, he darted out from behind his hiding spot and essentially threw himself into the back of the covered jeep. When he looked up from his spot he landed in, he saw two Hydra agents sitting there, looking back at him. “Fellas..” he said with a small nod before they moved to attack him. He however managed to knock them out of the jeep, unconscious. When the jeep he was hiding in was parked to be examined with the others, he took a deep breath and listened to his surroundings for a moment. When the hydra soldier had stopped at the back and lifted the tarp, Steve was quick to knock him out with his shield. He looked around briefly before he started off towards the lines of tanks, sneaking around them to avoid being seen. When the coast was clear enough, he darted out from the line of tanks and scaled the wall before dashing across it and towards the building. He made it in with little trouble, knocking out several men on his way to where the prisoners were kept, stealing one of their weapons on the way. When he made it to the area he was looking for, he swiftly knocked out a guard with his shield, letting him drop right above one of the cages, gaining the men's attention. They all stood up and looked at him as Steve dug through the guards pockets for the keys. “Who are you supposed to be?” One of the men questioned him. Steve hesitated a moment before answering him in a confident voice. “I’m Captain America.” The men were understandably confused as he made his way down to unlock the cage. “I beg your pardon?” One of them asked just before the cage was opened. As they all piled out, one of the men gave Steve a distasteful look as he saw him unlock and open the other cages as well. “What, are we taking everybody?” The man rolled his eyes and pulled up at his dog tags for him to see. “I’m from Fresno, Ace.” he said calmly. Steve shook his head a bit. “Is there anybody else? I’m looking for a Captain (Y/N) Cohen and a Sergeant James Barnes.” the Englishman looked over at him a bit sympathetically and nodded. “There’s an isolation ward in the factory, but no one’s ever come back from it.” Steve nodded his head a bit before raising his voice slightly so they all could hear him. “Alright. The tree line is northwest, eighty yards past the gate. Get out fast and give ‘em hell. I’ll meet you guys in the clearing with anybody else I find.” He said in the best Captain voice he could muster in that moment. “Wait, you know what you’re doin’?” the Englishman asked him. He gave him a lopsided smile. “Yeah. I've knocked out Adolf Hitler over two hundred times.” He said matter of factly before walking off, leaving the men behind very confused.

As Steve left the men to riot against the Hydra agents, he made his way through, fighting the Hydra agents that came into his path without remorse. He stopped in his tracks when he heard a familiar voice yell out in a slightly hoarse tone, “You.. Ratzy. Fuckin.. Krauts!! Wait till I get outta here! I’ll.. I’ll kill the lotta ya.” Steve walked in to see (Y/N) strapped to a table, a few tubes in his arms, both drawing blood and pumping him full of something. “(Y/N)?” He asked softly as he walked up to him. (Y/N)’s attention was immediately on him, confusion written on his face as he studied him for a moment before recognition flashed through his eyes. “Hey dreamboat. When did you get dragged in here?” he said a bit dazed, making Steve shake his head in relief at him. “Just now. Can you stand?” He asked as he undid his straps, taking out the tubes and needles as carefully as he could. “For you, I could try.” He said with a rough laugh as Steve helped him stand. (Y/N) steadied himself for a moment, using Steve’s arm for balance before he gave him a small nod. “Do you know where Bucky is?” he asked softly, holding his hopes down just in case. (Y/N)’s face hardened a bit, sobering him slightly, before nodding again. “I sure as hell do. Fuckin’ Krauts took him not long after our unit was captured and killed. He snapped his cap at one of the guards, got a hell of a beaten and then dragged outta the cell. I was a few cages over so I couldn't do squat. Raised my own hell when they put us to work and got tossed in here afterwards.” He grumbled before stomping out of the room, following the dimly lit hall with Steve hot on his heels. “So he’s alive?” (Y/N) grimaced but nodded. “You could say that yeah. I sure hope he is or I’m blowing this place sky high, taking the rats with it.” He said in a tone that made Steve pause for a moment. The venom that dripped from his words would have scared him if it was directed at him but he shook it off. “(Y/N), you wouldn’t..” He stopped in his tracks, turning to Steve with hatred in his eyes. “They killed my men Steve. They’ve beaten most of the prisoners here within an incha their lives. God knows what they did to Bucky when I couldn’t see what was happenin’. I would kill every Nazi Hydra scum I come across if given the chance.” He hissed out at him before he closed his eyes shut for a moment, shaking his head. “I'm.. sorry, I just.. come on. Let’s find Bucky please.” he said softly, a little less heated than before but Steve was starting to worry about him. ‘What happened to you here..’ Steve asked himself as they walked down the hall. As they passed down another corridor, he paused slightly when he saw a man rush out of one of the rooms, briefcase in hand. They exchanged looks before he rushed the opposite way. (Y/N) moved to follow him but Steve grabbed his arm, pulling him back. (Y/N) sent a heavy glare at him before ripping his arm out of his grasp and moving to go into the room he rushed out of. As they entered, they could hear Bucky’s voice softly calling out, “Sergeant. Three-two-five-five-seven.” in a daze. (Y/N) let out a sigh of relief as the tension on his end faded when he saw Bucky alive. “Bucky?” Steve called out to him as they both reached his side. “Oh my God..” Steve said as he ripped Buck’s restraints off as well. “Is that..?” Bucky started to say before he was cut off. “It's me, it's Steve.” Bucky blinked a few times. “Steve?” He said with a small smile before looking over to (Y/N) with a fond smile. “And you found our Spitfire too.” he said before Steve started to pull him up to his feet. “Come on, we gotta go.” They took a moment as Bucky got the hang of standing again and as Steve looked him over for any visible injuries. “I thought you two were dead.” He said softly before Bucky took in Steve’s new appearance. “(Y/N) wasn’t lying. You were a lot smaller.” he said as Steve looked over the map on the wall before he motioned for (Y/N)’s help. They both took aside and helped Bucky stand before they practically dragged him out of the room. “What happened to you?” He asked, still a bit out of it before Steve let out a small laugh, looking over at (Y/N) who knew exactly what happened. “I joined the Army.” (Y/N) rolled his eyes playfully with a small smile tugging on his lips. “Well.. somethin’ like that, yeah?” Bucky just shook his head a bit confused as they pulled him out of the room and down the hall. Soon enough, Bucky was able to stand up by himself but still found himself leaning against (Y/N) slightly as they talked. “Remember how I told you I would explain more about Steve and the SSR, but we got pulled into well.. This soon after?” Bucky paused for a moment before nodding as the memory resurfaced. “Well, Doctor Abraham, Peggy and I were a part of the team that put everythin’ inta motion. Abraham did most of the work along with Peggy for her analysis and SSR background as an agent, Stark helped too with his tech and knowledge. I was there to basically act as protection, provide insight where I could, fix numbers where I caught them and someone to bounce ideas off of. I wasn’t ever really apart of it in any big way but.. We all contributed to making the “Pod” as stark called it and perfectin’ the serum. Anyway, Abraham chose Steve as our subject and before you go and snap your cap at me Barnes, I agreed. He’s got the best heart and soul we could’ve found.” He said softly before clearing his throat. “Anyway, he’s the main reason our Stevo here is all big and strong.” Bucky gave (Y/N) a pointed look but nodded a bit and sighed. “Fine. I’m not happy ‘bout this, but I’m happy you’re both alive.” (Y/N) gave his cheek a kiss before walking ahead of them a bit to scope out any danger. “Did it hurt at all?” Bucky asked with a bit of concern. Steve shook his head a bit. “Only a little.” Bucky sighed and held his stomach as he walked. “Is this permanent?” Steve only shrugged before walking a bit ahead of Bucky. “So far it is.”

As they came onto the scene of everything starting to become engulfed in flames, Bucky and (Y/N) exchanged concerned looks as Steve took it all in, trying to determine what to do. (Y/N) pulled him away from the railing just as another explosion went off. “Come on, up those stairs!” (Y/N) said as he gave Steve a gentle push in the direction, following behind the two of them. As they rushed up the stairs and onto what (Y/N) would call a catwalk, they heard a voice ring out. “Captain America! How exciting!” Their attention snapped over to him, the one and only Johan Schmidt and his weasel of an assistant, Zola. “I am a great fan of your films!” he said as he stalked towards them. (Y/N) gave Bucky some support as he saw him put his weight onto the metal bar in front of him. They watched Steve walk to meet Schmidt in the middle of the catwalk, Bucky holding (Y/N)’s arm with his free hand. “So, Doctor Erskine managed it after all. Not exactly an improvement but still, impressive.” He taunted Steve as they met. Steve wasted no time at all when he was within arms reach and socked him right in the face. (Y/N) let out a stunned laugh as Bucky let out a small gasp. “You got no idea.” Schmidt let out a low growl as he rubbed his somewhat sore face. “Haven't I?” he asked before throwing a punch at Steve’s face. He threw up his shield just in time to block it but it made a fist sized dent in his shield, shocking Steve in the process. He grabbed his gun only to be knocked on his back with the second punch that was thrown at him, causing him to drop his gun. “Give it to ‘im Stevie!” (Y/N) shouted at him just before Steve managed to lift himself off his back and kick him square in the chest, knocking him onto his back. As Steve stood up, Zola pulled the lever to the catwalk and it retreated, separating them. “No matter what lies Erskine told you. You see, I was his greatest success!” He yelled at them before he started to peel off his face, revealing the red grotesk skull that remained. “Oh that’s.. So gross..” (Y/N) mumbled as he pulled a grossed out face. “You don't have one of those, do you?” Bucky asked the two of them, in reference to Steve, but (Y/N) shook his head. “You are deluded, Captain. You pretend to be a simple soldier, but in reality, you are just afraid to admit that we have left humanity behind. Unlike you, i embrace it proudly! Without fear!” he said as he walked away with Zola. “Then how come you’re runnin’?” Steve called out but the only answer he got in return was a loud explosion going off not too far from them. “Come on, let's go. Up.” Steve said after looking around for a moment in an almost panicked voice. Bucky followed behind Steve and (Y/N) tailed the two of them. Steve looked over the edge again before ushering Bucky to cross first. “Let’s go. One at a time, okay?” he said as he helped him over the railing. Bucky slowly shuffled across, looking down at the explosions and raging fire underneath him. As he got closer to the halfway point in the metal beam, an explosion shook them, causing the beam to slip, making him rush to cross it just before it fell. He hurled himself over the railing, gripping onto it like a life line as he looked over to his partner and his friend, stranded on the other side. “Gotta.. Gotta be a rope or somethin’!” Steve shook his head a bit and motioned for him to go. “Just go! Get outta here!” Steve said to him before Bucky yelled. “No! Not without you two!” Steve sighed deeply and cured under his breath. “Hell.” (Y/N) looked around before it came to him. “Jump.” he mumbled. Steve looked at him like he lost his mind. “What did you say?” (Y/N) gave him a slight smile. “I said jump. You need to jump. You can make it. Here. Bend this bar here and you’ll have a straight shot across.” Steve looked like he wanted to fight but another explosion made up his mind for him. He did as he was told and bent the bar, backing up as far as he could before he ran. Bucky watched with concern as he saw his best friend hurl himself over the edge and towards himself. Bucky leaned over the railing, stretching his hands out to him, just in time to catch him. He let out a pained yell as his weight caught him off guard, nearly pulling him over the edge. He bit the inside of his cheek as he hauled Steve up with his remaining strength, nearly collapsing on him. “We.. we cant leave (Y/N) behind Steve.” he said between small gasps of air. Steve stood up and looked around for anything that could help when (Y/N) shouted at them. “Go! I’ll be fine! I’ll meet you out there!” Bucky’s head snapped out in his direction. “Are you insane! We aren't leaving you! We all leave together!” He insisted, desperation clear in his voice. Steve helped Bucky up and started to drag him away. “Steve! What are you doin! Stop, we gotta get (Y/N)!” Steve ignored his pleas as he made his way to the stairs. “I’ll be seein’ you Sarge, don't worry!” (Y/N) called out before he turned and started to make his way back the way they came, trying to avoid the fire, hoping he could find an exit before the place blew sky high or was burnt down. Bucky thrashed against Steve weakly before he was thrown over his shoulder so Steve could pick up the pace. “Stop movin’ Buck, we need to leave.” Bucky let out a choked cry as he stopped fighting him. “You just left him there.. What if he dies.” he said as he watched another explosion go off where they had just been with (Y/N). “He wont. Don't think like that Bucky. He’ll be okay.” He insisted but Bucky got a sinking feeling in his chest the farther they got from (Y/N).

(Y/N) breathed a small sigh of relief when he reached where they were initially being held and saw that everyone had escaped the cells. His momentary happiness was cut short when someone grabbed him from behind, putting him in a headlock as several other guards made themselves known as they surrounded (Y/N). “Shit..” He mumbled under his breath as one of them cracked his knuckles. “Let's get started before this place is blown to bits.” He heard him say, joy and amusement clear in his voice.
