Loki and Mobius; love, trust, words and actions
It was so quiet in the room or time loop or wherever they were. Way to quiet. Mobius and Loki were just staring at each other. After a minute of painful silence Loki decided that they would have to be the one to break the silence. ‘‘What did you just say?’’ Maybe he has misheard Mobius. And if he did mishear Mobius that meant that Mobius wasn’t his soulmate. If they didn’t mishear Mobius, it meant that Mobius was their soulmate. ‘‘I could ask you the same thing, what did you say?’’ Oh, Mobius. For a man that always wanted answers was now afraid to give one. ‘‘I asked first Mobius, it is only polite that you answer.’’
Mobius didn’t answer and looked at the ground like it was the most interesting thing he ever saw. ‘‘Well, if you’re not going to say anything I suppose I will tell you what I said. I said that I trust. Is it so hard to believe that I would trust you?’’ Mobius looked up at them. ‘‘No, well, yes. You don’t trust anyone except yourself and other versions of yourself. And I trust you, but I never knew if that trust went both ways. But that doesn’t matter. What did you say exactly?’’
Of course it matters, why wouldn’t it matter? He just said that he trusted Loki even if he didn’t know if Loki trusted him. Nobody except maybe their mother had so much faith in them. ‘‘What, of course it matters but we will come back to that later. Why does it matter what I said exactly? I said I trusted you, isn’t that enough? Why is the phrasing of the sentiment so important to you?’’
Mobius started to laugh and looked at them with so much emotion in his eyes that it startled Loki. ‘‘Why does it matter? Why does it matter? It matters to me. So please, please just tell me.’’ ‘‘Alright, alright. If it is that important to you. I said: ‘Yes, I trust you.’ Now please tell me why it matters so much to you.’’
Mobius stayed quiet for a while and his eyes went back to the ground. Without looking up he started to talk. ‘‘It matters to me because on my back the words ‘Yes, I trust you.’ are written and I just wanted to know if I found my soulmate.’’
Soulmate. He was Mobius’ soulmate. It made sense when he thought about it. It was a nice thing to know. Mobius interrupted his train of thought. ‘‘Please say something.’’ Say something. For a god with a silver tongue, it was hard to bluntly tell someone what he felt but he could ask questions instead. ‘‘Can you please tell me again what you said right after I said that I trusted you?’’
‘‘What, okay. I believe I said ‘‘You could be whoever, whatever you wanna be, even someone good. I mean, just in case anyone ever told you different.’’’ Loki started to laugh, something which apparently confused Mobius. ‘‘What is so funny? Is it funny to you that you’re my soulmate? Is it funny to you that I believe that you can be a good person? Are you laughing at me or what else could you possibly be laughing about?’’
It was now or never. Time for the silver-tongued god to not beat around the bush anymore. ‘‘Don’t worry my dear Mobius, I’m not laughing at you, never at you. At the universe sure, the TVA of course, but never at you. You see, you just told me a sentence that I always wondered about and never thought to hear. A sentence that would fill me with dread about the future and would then comfort me when the darkest place in my mind took over. A sentence that is right above my heart. And that sentence, the most important one that my soulmate would ever say to me, was just said by you. So no, I’m not laughing at you. I’m laughing with happiness, such happiness of which the scale should frighten me, but it doesn’t. Not anymore.’’
Now it was Mobius’ turn to start laughing. ‘‘Oh, God. You always know just what to say don’t you.’’ Cupping Mobius’ face with their hands they brought their faces close to each other. ‘‘Naturally. But I learned long ago that sometimes words aren’t completely necessary.’’ And with those words Loki leaned down to finally kiss Mobius. Mobius lips were warm and a little chapped, but the kiss was perfect. Mobius placed his hands around their neck and pulled them closer together.
When they pulled apart for air neither one removed their hands from their place. Mobius was the first one to break the silence. ‘‘So, what happens now?’’ ‘‘Well, my love, I think that I should kiss you again. After that we will find Sylvie and burn the TVA to the ground. Unless you want to get some belongings of yours first of course, then we burn it to the ground. We will travel to a nice planet and then finally get some rest and I will get you a jet ski. How does that sound?’’
Mobius chuckled and a blush appeared on his cheeks. ‘‘Sounds like plan to me. Would you really get me a jet ski?’’ Loki let out a laugh. ‘‘Of course I will, why shouldn’t I? We will find a nice planet with an ocean, and I will get you a jet ski and some new magazines. And we will help Sylvie find her postman again.’’
‘‘Her postman?’’ ‘‘Yes, her postman. On the train we talked about love, and she told me about a postman.’’ ‘‘The world was ending, and you talked about love?’’ Loki chuckled. ‘‘Why yes, we came up with a few rather nice metaphors for love.’’
‘‘I would like to hear those metaphors sometimes.’’ ‘‘Don’t worry love, you will. But I think it is time to go.’’ Mobius at last removed his hands from around Loki’s neck and took a step back. ‘‘You’re right, we should go, but you did promise me another kiss.’’ Loki let out a laugh. ‘‘I did, didn’t I.’’ And with a quick kiss they left the room, ready to find Sylvie and burn the TVA to the ground, maybe they will even start with Mobius’ desk.
