The Astronaut

Summer was late, she was supposed to be with Raven and Taiyang at least 1 hour ago but she never thought the Grimms would give her and Qrow such much trouble.

And it had to be today of all the days".

It was really hot, even on an island like Patch, where the summers felt more windy and nice than the spring. You could run the entire island and it wouldn’t feel like hell but July 28th seems to give them all a challenge.

To be completely fair Raven was supposed to give birth much later, like…a whole week later, that’s why Summer took that mission with Qrow about some Grimms causing damage close to Vale borders three days ago.

“Can’t this thing go faster Summy?” she heard Qrow yell behind her.

It was a really good idea that Summer has been super careful about Raven’s pregnancy since the moment she knew because if she had listen to her girlfriend she would be running to get to the hospital, thankfully she has Rose with her, an Harley Davidson Sportster Ironhead that Summer herself always maintained on her free time, to take them both to where her romantic partners where at.

“Shut up, she’s doing her best!” she yells back, no one will talk shit about her baby…minus Raven…maybe.

They were already on their limit, receiving a call at 8am while killing Grimms non stop for 2 days straight with the news of Raven getting into labor so early, which made both Qrow and Summer going inhumanely fast at their job. Yeah ok, they are good but not that insanely good.

As they continue on the road Summer grows more impatient, she will never forgive herself for missing her daughter's birth. She wanted to be with Rae and Tai, to choose the name together; she really wanted to name her Citrine, like that yellow gemstone.

Citrine Branwen has a nice ring to it.

After 15 minutes of road, with really annoying traffic, they finally made it to the only hospital Patch has, which makes Summer more upset, why is it so damn far from the city?

Lots of people inside were as to be expected from a hospital but the two newest entrees couldn’t care less, running quickly to room 151, the one Taiyang texted them about, or as quickly they could without pushing anyone.

“Finally!” Taiyang says, sitting close to Raven’s bed. But Summer didn’t care, her eyes were only looking at the little bundle that was in Raven’s arms.

“What are you looking at?” Her girlfriend powerful voice came to her “come and meet her” Summer did exactly that, as she was getting closer to Raven her heartbeat was getting agitated, this was the moment.

Raven cedes her the baby and Summer falls in love.

You and me, an unending history

Gold little hairs could be seen in the baby head, it wasn’t much but still enough to make some curls. The new human Summer had on her arms must have sensed her cuz she opened her little eyes, looking tired as if she wasn’t sleeping before.

Oh, you become my universe

Lavender, that’s what Summer found on those little eyes, it didn’t make sense but as the baby blinks the young leader finds fascinating how it changes to different colors; red, orange, it felt like a sunset…with her gold hair being the sun.

The story of us

“Yang” she says, still hypnotized by the baby in her arms “Yang Branwen” she says again. The perfect name for the little sun that was just born, perhaps that’s why this specific day was so hot, the sun has decided to come down to play with them.

Like that asteroid drifting by without a destination

Yang, as Summer decided to call her, smiles and gives her a little giggle.

“Seems she agrees with you” Raven tells her. Maybe if Summer wasn’t so enchanted by the sun she would have felt the distance, the lack of emotion on her girlfriend.

“Yang it is!” Taiyang affirms the suggestion “i love it”

“Really?” Qrow is heard for the first time since they arrived “Call her Taiyang Jr if you will”

Summer didn’t pay him no mind, Yang understood and Summer too, and that was the only thing that matters.

I, too, was just drifting along

Now at home and Yang was still with Summer, it just felt…right.

Everytime the baby would be passed to the other three adults, little sun; as Summer started to call her in her head, would recoil uncomfortably but not with Summer. Maybe it has something to do with her being the Sun and Summer being the hottest season.

Every dream I found in the darkness

Summer decided to convince Raven to sing to Yang.

For the entire pregnancy Raven would sing to the baby, Summer cuddling her from behind, it felt like the right thing to do after the birth, it just made sense in Summer’s head.

So Raven sang, it felt sad but Yang liked it.

So Summer liked it too.

Starting anew this story

Raven left.

Taiyang has been crying the entire time while Qrow is angry.

Summer is busier.

Her little sun is sad, she knows her mom left, so Summer is on a mission.

Way more important than Ozpin missions.

Yang will alway be more important, even if Summer is dying inside. Because she wants to find Raven so badly, to yell at her, to cry, to just stay in her bed the entire year. But sunsets are prettier than the dark night in which the moon is barely seen so Summer stays with Yang, she’s on a mission.

When I’m with you

Summer learns quickly that Yang is not as calm as when she first met her, which is a bit hard, especially without Raven but Summer is quite enjoying it at the same time.

She learns that babies are quite fragile but funny enough really strong, Yang is a special baby though.

She learns too that her eyes can go to a pinky red color like Qrow's and that lavender seems to be her preference.

Yang likes music, so Summer always plays some merengues to keep her happy and with a smile. Is too because of the sight of Yang smiling with the mix of colors in her eyes and her golden lock getting shinier with every new laugh that comes from her tiny lungs.

There is no one else

Summer ends up registering Yang as a Xiao Long.

It fits like a glove.

Sunny little dragon.

That's the perfect description for her daughter.

I get heaven to myself

Her first birthday is approaching and the week is suddenly getting hotter. Summer thinks she will have to get used to it now that Yang is in her life.

Taiyang is really excited, he already planned a little party and the food he's gonna cook for it.

Qrow's is excited to shop for any gift he can think of for her.

Raven… is watching, she knows because Yang has babbled something about a bird a few days ago.

Summer sigh, her wife was so stubborn…

She's watching Yang playing with legos, her sunshine is really good at them, Summer feels she's going to be an engineer in the future.

Taiyang is hoping for her to be interested in cooking or maybe fighting.

Qrow hopes for a future huntress.

But Summer doesn't want Yang to end up as broken as them.

There is no one else

Yang is quite an hyperactive toddler, Tai and Summer learned that rather quickly.

So Taiyang decided that maybe they should put her in any classes that will help her get off that energy. Drum classes for little kids are close to the main city and it’s perfect for their kid, Taiyang enjoys how excited she is.

And now they are on a mission, a big one, so they can live calmly for a few years while raising Yang and probably a new baby, they aren’t completely sure yet.

Qrow is currently babysitting, he happily accepted the charge and there’s no one else Taiyang trusts with her shiny toddler than him, he can’t say the same for Summer though. The always level headed leader and partner was anxious, this is the first time they have been away from Yang this long and the silver eyed woman hasn’t been taking it well, Taiyang understands her, he’s a bit nervous too but he trust Qrow so he’s calm enough to be able to do this job.

He hopes Yang learned something new in her classes, so Summer would feel relax again.

I feel this way I’ve never felt

Qrow is speechless, he’s going to be an uncle!

Again!

He looks at Yang, the kid seems to understand because she’s hugging him with a big smile.

“You are going to have a little sister!” he says and holds Yang higher, making her laugh. Qrow thinks Yang is going to be a great huntress one day, with how smart she is she will be better than them…than her.

He hopes these siblings don’t end up as him and his twin.

You and me

Like a star that doesn't shatter

Summer is pretty big now and it takes much for her to hold Yang like before, not that her little bear cares, since she knows how to walk and Tai has started teaching her some taekwondo. Yang has been more interested in giving them a lot of headaches.

That’s a new nickname she gave to the almost two years old. She realized that winter makes her baby sleepier and tired and it reminded her how bears hibernate in the winter.

Yang now has more hair and she enjoys Summer brushing it for her or just touching it, especially to sleep. It reminded her of Raven’s hair… With every new month Summer can see a lot of Raven in her, but so a lot Tai and even a bit of Qrow. Her hair and some facial features are like her but the skin tone, the freckles, the hair color and even the way she walks is just Tai.

Her resemblance to Qrow is more subtle but there, it’s little details like her smile or how she wiggles when eating delicious food like her uncle.

Summer enjoys those little details a lot.

Becoming your dream

To travel throughout the universe

Ruby Rose was born.

Yang is now two years old and really happy for the new addition to the family. She makes silly faces to the baby and tries to read her some children's books, but Summer has to be careful still. She once caught Yang trying to teach her the newest taekwondo move she knows. It was a funny sight but still dangerous, she had to explain to a very sad Yang that her sister couldn’t do that now.

But even in danger Ruby didn’t withhold, she was very much happy with her sister.

Just as the Milky Way shines upon the darkest roads

You were shining towards me

Summer lied to Ozpin.

He knew about Yang and Ruby but she never told him what she had seen, the sunset on Yang eyes and Ruby hereditary eye color. And she will make sure that stays this way, her kids will be safe no matter what.

She made sure to tell both Qrow and Tai to not say anything, she lied to them too, Qrow was too much into Ozpin, Taiyang not that much. Maybe this is why Raven is watching the kids, she’s doing quite a nice job too, going to Summer when the kids need something, she just wishes Raven would come back to her, to their kids.

The only light found in the darkness

On my path to you

Yang is now in dancing classes too while Ruby is learning new words everyday.

This relaxes Summer to take missions around Vale, though not so far away.

Taiyang and her decided to take them to a doctor, Summer was worried for her little rose, she seemed to have trouble in things that are normal for kids her age. That’s when they get to know about ADHD and how both kids have it, it somehow makes her feel better, she wasn’t a bad mom, her kids brain just works differently than others and that’s fine.

When I’m with you

There is no one else

Ruby's second birthday is right around the corner which is why Summer is baking her a cake with Yang as her assistance. Being just three years old but Yang is quite a good baker, maybe she will be a great chef and baker with time as well.

Tai is with the little rose in the city, picking her gifts and some new cute outfits. Summer has been buying cute matching onesies to her babies since Ruby was born, cute babies with cute clothing just sounds about right.

She’s mixing the flour with the eggs while her baby bear is enthusiastically dancing to the music the older woman played on the radio. She can tell those dance classes are doing wonders in her sunshine as it helps her a lot with her coordination and even her confidence, she thinks that maybe she could put her little petal to some dance classes as well. Though Ruby has been quite enjoying the videogames classes her uncle is giving her.

Summer giggles at the thought.

I get heaven to myself

When I'm with you

New year new me, or that what Tai always said every New Year Eve, they have been thinking of Tai starting working as a teacher on Signal while Summer takes some jobs around Vale and Qrow continues doing the heavy ones, that way the kids will have a constant adult with them without the family losing money. Being a huntress is all cool until you remember it can take 5 months to get a good profit for it, Summer may win less than she’s used to but Yang and Ruby are growing and the last thing she wants is missing the tiny things of their lives.

Like reading them at night, both kids cuddling with her as she makes silly voices for every character line, and when she feels her bear drooling, saying good night and kissing their foreheads. Or baking with them, Ruby enjoys cookies and Yang enjoys just being a participant, both kids singing and dancing while helping Summer make the best cookies of the entire island. Or when they are playing outside, both really competitive kids and the oldest women think it is because herself is quite competitive as well.

She wants to enjoy this until the moment she can’t.

There is no one else

I feel this way I never felt

Summer thinks of her petal, she prays to every god she knows that she doesn’t end up like her, that her silver eyes just are a bit shiny gray, that Ozpin never finds her, that Qrow never makes her a huntress. That Tai raised her to be everything that Summer was not.

She will be hunted, tortured and even killed for her eyes, that’s why Summer is here, to stop that; or at least she hopes.

This will be her last mission.

She wants to go so badly with her sun, her fifth birthday is coming soon and she promised her she will teach her how to ride on her bike, they bought a little one for her and Yang was excited to learn. She’s planning to teach Ruby skateboarding when she gets a bit older, she already has the sketch for the mini skateboard is going to do.

She promised a lot to her babies and she plans to commit herself to it.

She thinks of the first time Yang opened her eyes for her, the sunset in her eyes, the golden curls and how it slowly got wavy, her little freckles and how with every new summer she will get new ones, no matter how much sun block she buys. She thinks of how hot July gets, like it senses the little dragon's birthday. And she cries, she promised to never leave, to not be like Raven but here she is.

She hopes Yang doesn’t end up hating her.

I feel this way i never felt

She hopes Ruby doesn’t end up hating her either.

When I'm with you

There is no one else

I get heaven to myself

Yang learned from a young age how life is unfair, how no matter your age you will suffer, the pain will be big but no one will care, all those adults you used to trust will not care, they will not listen to you, they will ignore you. She doesn’t want that for Ruby.

Tender age of 8 years old, that’s how old Yang is, her birthday is coming soon and so will be the fifth anniversary of that day. Yang has planned the day for her and Ruby, some new books she bought and playing with the dog her uncle brought for them from one of his missions. She has decided to bake some cookies for her sister as well, that will distract her enough to ignore how her father will be in his room the entire day…again.

He just goes to work, makes some food for them and stays in his room, not caring if they are ok. Not like her uncle is better, coming home smelling a bit funny and with a weird behavior, at least she has the black bird with her, giving her comfort every few days but especially that one day.

Yang wonders when will be the day a human would comfort her instead of just an animal.

When I'm with you

There is no one else

A life, a sparkle in your eyes

It seems it doesn’t matter how much she gives, how happy she thinks she could be, life doesn’t want her happy, they took her team away, her partner, her arm, her school, her friends…her mom. But her mom taught her, no matter how bad the world gets, it’s not other people's fault, it’s just the circumstances of life. She will be back on her feet and give love to the world even if the world doesn’t deserve it.

But not right now, she doesn’t feel like it.

Maybe she was too hard on her dad those years ago, maybe she shouldn’t have judged him so hard, she now understands the pain of being left by a loved one.

When will be the time where people would love her enough to never leave her.

Heaven coming through

She did what she had to do. That’s the last promise she made to her mom, to alway be there for her sister so that’s what she did.

She took the hit for her. She didn’t care if she was dead now, at least it meant she would see her mom again.

She had missed her so much, she wanted to tell her so badly about how much Ruby has grown, about the friends she had made, about…Blake. Her mom would have loved Blake, just like Yang loves her. Maybe that’s her only regret, never being able to tell Blake, even if she would get rejected…

But she did what she had to and she would do it again.

And I love you

She sighs between kisses, she can’t believe this is her life now.

She continues kissing the sun, meeting her with the same need she exudes, she doesn’t want it to stop, she wants more and more. Never ending.

They stop a moment and Blake sees a sunset in her partner's eyes, it’s so beautiful that her heart aches, her blonde wavy hair makes it look like the sun was right there with her. It was so poetic, something you would only read in fantasy books. She feels Yang getting hotter, does she realize how beautiful she looks? How is her body behaving? The glow of her hair with the mixed colors in her eyes make it look like a hot day in the summer season, those days that are so hot you just want to get naked in front of the AC but somehow it’s comforting, perhaps it is Yang's love that makes it that way.

Either way Blake wants to continue exploring the lair of the dragon.

And I love you

Maybe Yang will have that one person that will love her enough to leave but come back no matter what.

That’s what Summer wished as well.
