When it was clear the girl didn’t know who she was, they stopped asking their questions. Wanda patched her up, telling her to rest while she moved over to Nat to get patched up herself. The assassin had wiped the blood away and gave her a crude bandage while Wanda worked on their unknown hostage.
Wanda gave a week smile to her girlfriend as she hoped up on the other stretcher, pulling the shorter redhead to her. Nat smiled, grabbing her supplies, settling between her thighs. “She’ll be okay. We’ll figure everything out, okay?”
Wanda nodded, pulling at the gauze and tape on her head. “I know. I just...relate.” She whispered the last word, her eyes locking with Nat’s.
The girl smiled, bringing up an antiseptic wipe and cleaning her forehead. “You care so much. It’s one of the reasons I love you so much.” She said, blowing cool air onto her cut. Wanda cupped her cheeks, pressing their noses together.
“Natalia, I love you so much.” She said, holding Nat close when they landed and the assassin stumbled into her.
The medic team rushed on, making the space seem so much smaller. Their hostage bolted up, swaying on her feet, but ready to fight anyone off. Wanda slid off the stretcher, pushing Natasha aside to get to the girl. “Hey! It’s okay.” She approached, hands in the air. “They are here to help. Not hurt. Help.” She said, watching the fire in her eyes be banked and her hands drop. Wanda caught her as she nearly fainted, her effort depleting her energy supply. The team, now, cautiously approached, helping Wanda get the stranger on the stretcher they brought. They wheeled her away as Nat grabbed her arm, kissing her shoulder.
Tony swaggered on; arms raised in question. Natasha rolled her eyes, taking her girlfriends hand and moving toward him. “How did my favorite lesbians end up bringing home a new human on an information retrieval mission?”
Wanda snorted, moving passed him. “Come on, Witchy?” He called after her, looking back at Nat, silently asking what he did wrong.
Shaking her head, she walked with him, explaining what happened as Wanda caught up with the team, hoping the girl was okay. Wanda couldn’t explain what she was feeling, but there was a sense of protection the witch felt over their hostage. She wanted to help her get better, felt in her bones the need to see her safe. She got to the room, green immediately connecting with violet. She could see fear lashing behind her eyes, her muscles tense, hands shaking. Wanda moved into the room, pushing her way to the hostage's side.
“Mind if I sit here?” She asked, trying to calm the girl. “I need medical attention as well.” Those violet eyes looked at Wanda and shrugged, looking her up and down. Wanda pointed at her already bandaged head. “Someone kicked me earlier.”
Wanda sat next to the girl, “Mind if I sit here?” She asked, watching the girl shrug. Wanda pointed at her already bandaged head. “Someone kicked me earlier. I thought I would get it looked at.”
Wanda didn’t know what she was expecting, but her to laugh was not one of them. It was sort of musical, her laugh. It immediately stopped, like a skip in a track and the smile that was crawling on the redhead’s face, fell.
“I'm sorry.” She whispered, shying away from Wanda, tensing further when an IV was put into her arm. Wanda looked around as the room seemed to get darker, the machines she was already hooked to beeping sporadically. Wanda looked back to her, the doctors freezing, not knowing they were dealing with an enhanced individual. The witch watched her close her eyes tight, holding her breath and everything went back to normal. That urge to protect her grew stronger. Guilt washed over her because what she was feeling was very similar to when she met Nat.
She swallowed thickly, her breath quickening, she needed to get to Nat. It was just because she had a similar background to the girl. Held and, most likely, experimented on by HYDRA. Yeah, that was it. Dr. Cho came up to her, arm on her shoulder. “Wanda, you’re really white. Are you okay?” She nodded, brushing her away. “I can get Natasha...” Wanda shook her head, moving out of the room.
It didn’t take her long to Find her girlfriend, she was running down the hall, looking for her. When she saw her, she ran faster, hugging her close. “Are you okay? What happened? The whole place went dark and then back on. I thought it was you.” Wanda held her close, shaking her head. “No. No, it wasn’t me.”
Nat sat them on a bench nearby and cupped her cheek. “Why do you look like you just woke from a coma?”
“It was her. She... She has powers.” Wanda said, still feeling that protective streak, knowing she would fight anyone to keep her save. And she just left her alone with a bunch of strangers, poking and sticking things to her. Wanda remembered the first time the medic team had to hook her up to help her, she nearly knocked everyone out with a surge of frightened power. Nat was the one to bring her back.
Natasha nodded, moving hair behind Wanda’s ear. “That still doesn’t explain why you look like death, Milyy.” (Darling)
Wanda looked at her girlfriend, confused and scared. She didn’t really know what was happening and she didn’t want to scare Nat any more than she already was. So, she shook her head, laying it on her shoulder. “I think she just reminded me of my days in HYDRA.” It wasn’t a lie. The girl did remind her of those horrible days, but it wasn’t also the whole truth. Wanda didn’t really know the whole truth though. She felt her love wrap her arms around her as she thought, snuggling into the warmth she could always count on being there. Yes, this is what she felt when she first met Natasha, very shortly before she started falling in love with the assassin. Also, they had just pulled the woman from a very similar place that Wanda used to be in. So, the violent urge to protect her was because Wanda had been in her shoes before.
Yes. That was why.
