Rash decisions
“Why can’t you just take it out?” “She’s dangerous Ms. Maximoff. I can’t allow her to endanger anyone.” Wanda rolls her eyes. “Director, it seems like that’s all you ever say. I’ve tried to tell you so many times but-“ He interrupts. “Yeah, so you have. But I have my evidence that she’s-“ It’s my turn to interrupt.
“Hi, sorry. I’ve known Y/N for practically my whole life, and I know she’d never hurt anyone on purpose. And it sounds like you haven’t even been around to see wether or not she’s been getting better, so it doesn’t seem like your place to decide her spot on the team.” They both go quiet, and the Director turns to me crossing his arms. “Who are you?” I shrug. “I’m Adrian. A friend of Y/N’s. As I was saying, I happen to actually care about what happens to her. But you’d rather let her suffer, and as far as we know you could be killing her.” He takes a few steps closer to me. “Well Adrian. It isn’t that I don’t care. It’s that I’m looking out for more than just your friend.”
At this point, I’m starting to get desperate. “Please. You can’t just leave her like this, I just got her back. She’s my best friend, and I’d do anything to help her. But considering that I can’t just take it out myself, I need you to do it.” I continue to stare him down, and he stands there for a second.
He sighs. “Fine. But if anything happens, it’s on you.” His threat is punctuated by pointing at me, and he leaves the room. I finally relax, turning to Wanda. She gives me a relieved smile. I lean on the side table, sighing. “You okay?” I shake my head. “I’m good. I wasn’t actually sure he’d agree.” Nodding she says, “Yeah. I wasn’t sure either. He hasn’t changed his mind at all until now.” “Glad he didn’t want her to die. Means a lot.” I mutter sarcastically.
A minute later, in walks a scientist or doctor, who doesn’t say anything, but just starts to examine the device implanted in Y/N’s neck. “Once I remove it, we’ll have to get her to a containment pod.” The doctor explains, not looking up. Wanda and I share a look but neither of us say anything, and just wait.
”Alright, let’s go.” We take Y/N to a pod, and the doctor walks out immediately, motioning to use to do the same. Wanda nods towards me, then steps out of the pod. I then make one of the dumbest choices in my life (so far). I don’t leave the pod. The doors begin to close, and I look and see Wanda’s panicked face. “Adrian, what are you doing?” I shrug because, honestly I don’t know.
Y/N starts to wake up, and looks just as surprised and confused as everyone else. “W-what happened?” “Well, good news. I was able to get Fury to take out the power stopping thing so, that’s pretty cool.” She stares at me waiting for the rest of the story. “And now, we’re in a containment pod, which I have to say is less great for me but… what can you do.”
”Well, Adrian, you could’ve gotten out of the pod, but I guess you didn’t think of that did you?”
Y/N’s POV
”Yeah, that’s a good point.” Adrian smiles awkwardly, and I start to feel the also less great feeling. “Adrian, you have to go. Now.” “You know, I wish I could but I’m not sure how…” I look at Wanda through a small window in the pod. She looking around, probably for the controls. She shakes her head. “I don’t know how.” I turn back to Adrian, defeated. “Please. I don’t want to hurt you, and I’m not sure I’ll be able to stop it.” I back up to the end of the pod farthest from Adrian.
”You won’t hurt me.” I shake my head. “You don’t know that.” “Well. I’ve been talking to Wanda, and she’s been telling me about you. I get that you don’t think you’re in control, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t. I know that it’s scary, but I’m here for you. We’re all here for you. If you let me help.” I wish everyone would just stop trying to make me feel better.
“Yeah, that doesn’t change the fact that I-“ “It was an accident, no one holds it against you. Ok most people don’t.” I stand there processing what she’d said. Adrian was never one for heartfelt speeches like that.
The flames do start, but they’re smaller and more contained. After it stops, Adrian exhales. “You won’t hurt me.”
