Nothing left for me
"I've gotten that a lot lately." She nods, a smile almost crossing her face. "For how long?" "Since around the time of the fire which is probably why I..." As I trail off, Wanda clears her throat. "We're just going to let you guys talk." The door clicks shut and I expect her to say something now that everyone's gone. "So. How have you been?" Caught off guard by how casually she asked, I smile slightly. "Really, that's what you're going with?" I mean it as a joke but, she doesn't take it that way. "Y/N, please." She scoffs. "Right. Yeah no, I'm sorry."
Another awkward silence. Izzie, I am-" She cuts me off, holding up her hand. "Did you..." She pauses closing her eyes, bracing herself for my answer. "Did you know what you were doing?" Her voice shakes slightly. "No. No, I had no idea. And when I realized it wasn't like I could do anything." She opens her eyes again, crossing her arms. "How did no one figure any of this out until now?" "I don't even know. I guess I got good at hiding it. And, you know what they say, if you like enough you don't just convince everyone else, you start to believe it yourself. Or something." She hums. "Yeah, lie for two years and I'm sure it'll start seeming like the truth."
Whether she meant it or not, her words come out harsh. She probably meant it. "Yeah because, I'd love to go around telling people I killed my parents. I'm sure it would be fun during Truth or Dare." She starts pacing, what she used to do when she was upset. After a few seconds, she stops and puts a hand on her forehead, turning to me. "We could've helped you. You know we would've."
I go to apologize again because, what else could I do, when the door opens again. Fury walks in, alone this time. "I think... I'm going to go now." At the door she turns. "I'll try to keep in touch." I nod, not entirely sure she'll really do that. She hadn't before and that was when she didn't know I killed Mom and Dad. "L/N, I hate to do this."
"I really doubt that." "But you're being suspended." I nod, unsurprised. "And then, in a few weeks, we'll- sorry, I'll decide if you get to come back." I laugh. "It was fun while it lasted." I make my way up to my room again, this time not wanting to admit I was actually leaving this time. As I'm packing, Tony comes in. "Hey kid." "Hey." He takes a few steps into the room. "I know we didn't talk much but, I'm sorry to see you go. Wanda certainly thinks you have potential. She couldn't stop talking about you." "Had." "What?" "I had potential. Didn't last long though." While I start packing again he adds, "Listen. In two weeks I'm sure everything will turn out the way it's supposed to." That was weirdly out of character from the man I had met months ago but I still appreciated it. "Thanks Tony." I smile at him and turn and walk away.
I take out my phone, going through my contacts. Once find the one I'm looking for, it goes straight to voicemail. "Hey. It's Y/N, we need to talk."
