Chapter 1

Sylvie had had enough. She and Loki fought over what to do with this man at the end of time, this man behind the curtain, Loki mostly just defending himself while he tried to reach her. She blasted him aside with an energy burst and charged forward to finish her mission. She told herself she would deal with him once this was all over.

Just as she was about to reach the desk he appeared in front of her, his neck just behind the blade, effectively stopping her in her tracks.

Sylvie stop,” he pleaded.

She panted and fought to keep her grasp on the sword firm as her eyes welled.

Loki’s hands moved slowly to land on her arms gently, “stop,” he said calmly, eyes full of desperation.

“I’ve been where you are,” he said honestly, “I’ve felt what you feel,” he stared into her eyes and was overwhelmed with emotion.

“Don’t ask me how I know,” his voice trembled as his heart ached for her, “all I know is… I don’t wanna hurt you.”

He poured everything he felt into his words, every drop of honesty he could muster knowing even the slightest hint of deception would ruin this moment.

“I don’t want a throne… I just…” he exhaled wearily, “I just want you to be okay,” his face was anguished as he looked at her pleadingly.

“Please Sylvie, just take a beat, think about this… I know you’re hurting, I feel it,” he touched his chest in emphasis, “But I also know you felt something too—I know it,” he said desperately.

Sylvie’s eyes watered and she bit her lip as her hand faltered around the blade.

“Don’t you see? I don’t want any of this, I don’t want any of his grand promises… I just want you,” he whispered.

Sylvie’s arm fell and she pulled him close in a desperate kiss. Loki’s head was spinning as he held her and was lost in a dizzying rush of emotion. He’d wanted to tell her how he felt for so long and been terrified of hurting her. It wasn’t until the very last moment with everything on the line that he was laid bare and knew for certain she felt something too.

Loki kissed her like his life depended on it, firm and passionate without reservation. Sylvie felt like she was drowning and the only oxygen in the room came from his lips. She clung desperately to him as a tear fell from her eye unbidden.

Sylvie pulled back reluctantly and breathed against his lips, “I’ll find you,” before pushing him through a portal behind him.

She needed to do this, she didn’t know how but she knew it was her purpose and she couldn’t allow her feelings to get in the way. She cast the desk aside and finished things before falling to the floor miserably. She hadn’t wanted to kill him, but she’d needed to. Her mission couldn’t end until the timeline had been set free, and she couldn’t think about how she felt until her mission was complete.

Sylvie sniffed and wiped her nose, pulling her self together she got to her feet. She took the hyper advanced circular TemPad and created a portal to go find her counterpart.
