The scene opens in 2023, in the Stark Family's backyard. Just after the funeral for Anthony ¨Tony" Stark, a time machine is set up in the backyard. Wearing black clothes and forlorn faces stands Bruce Banner, James ¨Bucky" Barnes, and Sam Wilson. Banner stands behind a computer for the machine, whilst Wilson and Barnes stand around the machine's circular platform. Steve Rogers, clad in his Captain America Suit, enters.
Bruce: And remember, you have to return the stones to the exact moment you got them, or you're going to open up a bunch of nasty alternative realities.
Steve: Don't worry, Bruce, I'll clip all the branches.
Bruce: (Sadly) You know I tried. When I had the gauntlet with the stones I... I really tried to bring her back. (sigh) I miss her, man.
Steve: Me too.
Sam: (walking alongside Steve) You know, if you want, I could come with you.
Steve: You're a good man, Sam. This one's on me though.
Sam walks back toward Bruce; Steve turns to Bucky
Steve: Don't do anything stupid til I get back.
Bucky: How can I? You're taking all the stupid with you.
Steve and Bucky hug each other
Bucky: (breaks away from Steve, and whispers) Gonna miss you, buddy.
Steve: It's gonna be okay, Buck.
Bucky smiles sadly as Steve steps onto the platform and pressed a button on his sleeve. A quantum realm suit grows over his Captain America one. Steve picks up the case of infinity stones and Thor's hammer (Mjolnir).
Sam: (turns to Bruce) How long is this gonna take?
Bruce: (pressing buttons on the machines) For him, as long as he needs. For us, five seconds. (Looks to Steve) You ready, Cap?
Steve nods.
Bruce: Alright, we'll meet you back here, okay?
Steve: You bet. (A helmet grows over his head)
Bruce: Going quantum. Three... two... one.
Steve disappears from view as he enters the quantum realm.
The scene changes, and we open on the roof of the Sanctum Santorum, in New York City, in the year 2012. Bruce Banner is seen getting the time stone from The Ancient One as Steve Rogers appears. Bruce and The Ancient One turn to look at Steve as he arrives.
Bruce: (in shock) Steve?
Steve: Hey, Bruce.
Bruce: (confused) What's going on? Is everything alright?
The Ancient One smiles knowingly
Steve: (smiles sadly, as he opens the case and pulls out the time stone) Everything's going to be just fine, you can head back.
Bruce: You sure?
Steve nods as Bruce presses a button and disappears as a quantum realm suit appears over him. Steve approaches The Ancient One.
Steve: (Hands her the time stone) I assume you know what's going on?
The Ancient One: Yes, and I do advise that you take Mr. Stark's advice. Go with what your heart wants, Steven.
Steve: (Smiles sadly) Thank you, m' am. (Steve disappears)
The scene changes again, and we open on Vormir, in the year 2014. The Red Skull stands at the entrance to a cave, he sees a figure approach the entrance, he walks to them; his gray cloak billowing in the wind.
Red Skull: Steve, son of a.... gun. You're still alive?! (annoyed and shocked at Steve's presence)
Steve: (His eyes widen) Schmidt?! How the heck-! What! (he splutters, astonished, before regaining his composure) I take it you got what was coming to you. (he states calmly, but with a tone laced in venom)
Red Skull: Yes, Captain. I am forever left to guide others to a treasure I can not possess. (He glares at Steve as he folds his arms over his chest and looks back toward the cave)
Steve: Good for you. (He angrily throws the soul stone to The Red Skull and disappears)
The scene changes once again. We open on Camp Leigh, a secret SHIELD base in Wheaton, New Jersey, in 1970. Anthony "Tony" Stark is seen grabbing the case that holds the tesseract inside it. Steve Rogers appears behind him. Tony turns around and sees Steve.
Tony: I told you I had this handled, what are you doing? And wearing that will jeopardize the mission! (He angrily whisper yells as he sees Steve in his Captain America suit)
Steve: Yeah... I know. (He smiles sadly as he sees Tony) I just wanted to tell you I'm sorry. I'm sorry I didn't tell you about your parents as soon as I knew... I just... I'm sorry. For everything. (He opens up his case and pulls out the space stone and holds it out to Tony)
Tony: (sighs) I'm sorry too. (He notices the stone in Steve's hand) Did we win? (He asks, shocked)
Steve: (hesitates before answering) I can't tell you... It could change what's been done.
Tony nods as he places the space stone in his briefcase and passes the tesseract to Steve, now understanding what's happening.
Howard Stark: (offstage) Arnim? Dr. Zola?
Tony: Well, see ya around then Capsicle. (he smiles and winks)
Steve: (smiles sadly, with tears brimming in his eyes knowing what's to come) Yeah, see you around. (He disappears, moments before someone else enters the lab)
The scene changes again. We open on a planet called Morag, in the year 2014. James "Rhodey" Rhodes and Nebula are seen taking the power stone from an unconscious Peter Quill. Rhodey and Nebula disappear just as Steve arrives.
Steve: (sees Peter on the ground, his eyes widen as he approaches him) Dear god please don't be dead.
Steve takes Peter's pulse and lets out a sigh of relief that he still has one. He quickly places the power stone in his satchel and disappears before he awakes.
The scene changes once again, now showing the realm of Asgard in the year 2013. Steve Rogers sees angry palace guards chasing Rocket Raccoon as he dashes away from them holding the aether, the substance that holds the reality stone.
Steve grabs Rocket as he comes around the corner and quickly exchanges the aether for the reality stone.
Rocket: (angrily) Hey, what the heck, dude?!
The pair hear the angry shouts of the Asgardians guards as they come running.
Rocket: I'll deal with you later! (He shouts to Steve as he runs off)
Steve takes off in the opposite direction of the palace guards, hoping to find Jane Foster. He eventually stumbles upon the room and finds Jane seated on a couch with Thor Odinson and some palace guards standing alongside her.
Jane: He just came up and stuck a needle in my neck or something.
Guard: Could it have been Loki?
Thor: Nonsense, he is down in the dungeons serving his sentence. It may have been a dark elf perhaps?
Jane: No, it was a raccoon. Like a talking raccoon.
Thor looks concerned for his girlfriends while the guards look confused. Meanwhile, Steve leaves Mjolnir behind the couch and quickly injects the aether into Jane before disappearing; leaving behind a slew of confused Asgardians.
The scene changes again as Steve Rogers arrives at Avengers Tower, New York City, in the year 2012. He spots the Steve from 2023, prior to the death of Tony Stark, and quickly exchanges his case for the one with Loki's scepter, which contains the mind stone in it. He grins as he watches his unsuspecting past self walk away with the case. Before he hops onto an elevator.
Brock Rumlow, Jasper Sitwell, and a few other agents look surprised to see Steve there.
Jasper: Captain Rogers.
Steve: Agent Sitwell. (He hands the case to Brock)
Brock: (confused) I thought the director asked you to take it, Captain Rogers?
Steve: Well, Agent Rumlow, there was another change of plans.
Jasper: The director can't seem to make up his mind then. (he shrugs his shoulders)
Steve: Oh, I think he can. (he gives them a knowing smirk as he exits the elevator)
Steve makes his way to one of the already broken windows and jumps down to the ground floor. On the ground, he sees his old shield. He lifts it up and examines it as he looks through the window and sees his team. The avengers all together once more. Steve smiles sadly with tears in his eyes as he prepares to leave.
Steve: (whispers, sadly) Goodbye. (Steve disappears)
The scene changes again, as we see the Carter Residence in Washington D.C., in the year 1945. Margaret "Peggy" Carter is seen doing the dishes in her kitchen when a knock is heard at the door. She walks to the front of the house and opens it to see Steve Rogers wearing his captain america suit and holding his shield smiling back at her.
Peggy: (astonished) Steve...
Steve: (smiles) Hey, Peg...
The scene changes again as we see Steve Rogers and Margaret "Peggy" Carter dancing in their living room. Steve gently kisses Peggy as she leans her head on his chest as they sway to the beat.
The scene changes a final time and we are back in Tony Stark's Backyard in the year 2023. Bruce Banner stands behind many computers near the time machine as he works to help Steve Rogers on his mission. James "Bucky" Barnes and Sam Wilson stand nearby. One awaiting the arrival of his friend, the other already knowing what is about to happen but still waiting nonetheless.
Bruce: And returning in five... four... three, two... one.
Steve does not appear. Bruce worriedly checks his computers.
Sam: (concerned) Where is he?
Bruce: I don't know. He blew by his timestamp. He should be here.
Bucky looks over by the lake near the yard. He sees an old man(Steve) sitting on a bench near the shore. He smiles knowingly.
Sam: (angrily) Well, get him back.
Bruce: (angrily) I'm trying.
Sam: (angrily) Get him the heck back.
Bruce: (angrily) Hey, I said I'm trying.
Bucky: (looking over at the old man, a distant look on his face) Sam.
The rest of the group begin to notice the man sitting there looking out on the lake and realize who it is. Sam and Bucky approach the old man, Bucky stands a bit farther back than Sam does.
Bucky: Go ahead.
Bucky and Sam smile at each other before Sam continues approaching the old man(Steve).
Sam: Cap?
Steve: Hi, Sam.
Sam: (smiling) So, did something go wrong or did something go right?
Steve: Well, after I put the stones back, I thought... maybe... I'll try some of that life Tony was telling me to get.
Sam: How'd that work out for ya?
Steve: (smiling fondly) It was beautiful.
Sam: (smiling and nodding) Good. I'm happy for you. Truly.
Steve: Thank you.
Sam: (looking out on the lake) Only thing bumming me out is the fact that I have to live in a world without Captain America.
Steve: (smiling, looking down at the package he brought with him) Oh. That reminds me.
Steve opens the package revealing his shield. Sam smiles fondly as he sees it.
Steve: (looking back at Sam) Try it on.
Sam, confused, looks back at Bucky who smiles and nods encouragingly. Sam picks up the shield. After he looks away, Bucky's face falls at the thought of losing his best friend.
Steve: How does it feel?
Sam: Like it's someone else's.
Steve: It isn't.
Sam sighs as Steve smiles at him.
Sam: (smiling) Thank you. I'll do my best.
Steve and Sam shake hands. Steve puts his other hand over Sam's, showing the wedding ring on it.
Steve: That's why it's yours.
Sam: (looking at the ring) You wanna tell me about her?
Steve: (a happy but distant look on his face) No. No, I don't think I will.
