The Murder House

Over the next several weeks, everyone settled into their new routine. Mobius would take his jet ski out on the lake in the mornings while Sylvie made breakfast. Being a chronic insomniac due to his erratic writing muse, Loki often slept in until one of the others brought him his morning tea.

Sylvie had just put the kettle on to brew when Mobius came into the kitchen, rubbing his wet hair with a towel. He walked up from behind and put his arms around her, and she happily slumped against him.

"Morning Vi."

"Morning, how was Wanda today?"

"Rides like a dream...you know you two really ought to come out on the water with me sometime."

"That's assuming you could even get Loki up before noon, speaking of which..." She pulled the kettle off the stove and poured it over the tea bags before handing Mobius the cup," you mind taking this to his majesty while I finish breakfast?"

"Sure thing babe."

He gave her a quick peck on the cheek and proceeded to head upstairs to the bedroom. Once he was out of sight, Sylvie turned back to the stove to start working on the rest of their meal.

She was turning the eggs over in the skillet, when something whispered into her ear.

"Sylvie...."

She jumped and turned around to see if it was one of her lovers.

"Loki?Mobius? Are you down here?"

When Noone replied, she shrugged and turned back to what she was doing. A few seconds later, she heard a creaking noise, followed by that same whisper.

"Sylvie...."

She switched the burner off, and turned around to scold whichever one of them was pranking her.

"Alright boys, this really isn't funny...."

Her words died off when she realized she was still alone in the kitchen. Suddenly, there was another creaking sound and she looked up...

To see the chandelier wires snap, causing the whole thing to crash onto the dining room table.

             ****************

Loki was still snoozing when he felt someone kissing the back of his neck.

"Hmm....Moby stop, your mustache tickles..."

"We both know you like the feel of it, now sit up and drink your tea."

He groaned before rolling over and sitting up, accepting the cup from his boyfriend's hands.

"Thank you, darling. Where's Sylvie?"

"She's in the kitchen making breakfast."

Loki nodded and went to take a sip of his tea, when they heard a loud crash followed his wife's screaming.

"SYLVIE!!"

They raced down the stairs and into the dining room to see a mess of glass and metal all over the table, and Sylvie standing there looking white as a sheet. Both men raced over and wrapped themselves around her.

"Are you okay Vi?"

"What happened?"

"I was cooking, when I kept hearing someone whisper my name," she said through chattering teeth," I turned around thinking it was one of you, only for that chandelier to just crash onto the table!"

Loki looked from the light to the wires hanging out of the ceiling.

"It looks like the cables are fairly old, perhaps it was ready to give out."

"But that doesn't explain why I heard my name!"

"I'm sure it's something reasonable that we'll think of later," Mobius said as he examined the damage," in the meantime, why don't we all get dressed and go out for breakfast?"

Sylvie nodded shakily, and went to move towards the stairs, before she was stopped by Loki.

"Wait! Don't walk through there...there's still glass all over the floor."

"I'll take care of her, since I'm the only one of us currently wearing shoes."

Loki nodded and went to grab a broom and dustpan. Meanwhile, Mobius put one arm around Sylvie's back and the other under her knees so he could carry her up the stairs. When they reached the bedroom , he gently set her on the bed and proceeded to check her over for any injuries.

"Are you sure you're okay, Vi?"

"Yes, a little shook up, but otherwise fine."

"Good."

He held her tightly against him and started carding his fingers through her hair, just as Loki popped into the doorway.

"I got the glass all cleaned up, and called a repairman about the light, they should be out here by this afternoon."

"Well then, let's get out of here. I'm hungry and I'd like to eat something that doesn't have glass bits in it."

                                 *****************

They ended up finding a quaint little Cafe in town. The boys ordered a pancake platter while Sylvie decided on scrambled eggs and toast. She opted out of the coffee, which Loki thought was a tad unusual for her, but he just chalked it up to her still being shaken up about the accident.

While they were eating, a young woman approached their table.

"Hi there, are you the guys that moved into the old Hawthorne mansion by the lake?"

"Yes, we are....who might you be?"

"Names Val, I own the local newspaper. Tell me, how does it to feel to be living in the murder house?"

The trio looked at each other in confusion before looking back at Val.

"I'm sorry....did you just refer to our home as 'the murder house'?"

"Yeah, it's kind of a local legend around here, considering every person that's lived there has died a fairly gruesome death."

Loki and Mobius could barely comprehend what they were hearing when Sylvie turned a deathly shade of white.....

And promptly threw up all over the table.
