Chapter 38

Wanda's POV

"Mom?" I said furrowing my eyebrows.

"What are you doing here?" I spat my lips drew back in a snarl.

"Wanda, it's you." She said stepping closer to me.

"No, no don't touch me." I said moving closer to Nat.

"I'm sorry, I- I-"

"No, you don't get to show up and pretend that everything is alright, you left us mom, you left us to be raised by that monster!" I spat, my eyes flooded with tears.

"For ten years we have endured all of his abuse, and now that Pietro's dead you just get to show up and expect me to forgive you?" I yelled.

She hung her head low, with nothing to say and cried, kept repeating and saying that it was her fault.

"Why? Why did you leave us?" I said as I felt Nat's hand squeeze mine making me calm down a bit.

"I'm sorry Wanda, I'm very sorry." She said kneeling down the grass and cried begging for my forgiveness.

"Mom, stand up, stop saying your sorry, sorry doesn't fix it." I sighed wiping the tears away.

"Wanda, I shouldn't have left you, I should've taken both of you with me, but he threatened me, he threatened me that if I take either of you he would kill me." She sobbed.

"He made me leave, he made me swore that I won't contact or go near either of you." She looked up her tears running down her cheeks.

I stood there in silence, processing what she just said. After all this time it was because of him, I hung my head low feeling bad.

"After all that time, where were you?" My voice was like a whisper.

"I've been with someone and uh- sometimes I go where Pietro worked." She said hesitantly.

"You're saying you've been near us and you've never once said anything?" I mumbled furrowing my eyebrows.

"I tried, and honestly I knew this is how you would react." She sighed.

"And who's this?" She said pointing at Nat.

"Why do you want to know?" I quipped.

I felt Nat squeeze my hand and then letting it go making me look at her, her eyes telling me that it's okay.

"Natasha Romanoff." She said extending her hand.

"Magda Eisenhardt." She said accepting Nat's hand.

"Eisnenhardt?" I asked confusion etched on my face.

"Your father and I never got married." She sighed.

"Oh."

"Uh- Wands do you want to put the flowers?" She asked, hesitating to call me by her nickname in front of my mother.

"Yeah, okay." I said.

I went to Piet's headstone, kneeling on the grass as I placed the dandelions on the cold pavement and sighed.

"Have you ever known Piet? Should I forgive her and move on? I don't know what to do right now Piet." I mumbled as I stood back up, walking back to Nat who was talking to her.

"I'm still mad at you." I said looking directly at her.

"I'm-" She looked down, losing the last bit of hope of me forgiving her.

"But I am willing to listen to why you did that, and I will try to understand." I added.

"That would be great." She said giving me a rueful smiled.

"Do you have somewhere to be today?" Nat asked.

"No, I don't think so." She answered.

"I'll give you one chance to fix this." I said my hands motioning us.

"So do you want to come back with us and talk this out like adults?" I said in a monotone voice.

"I would love to." She said with a sigh of relief.

"Why don't both of you go ahead, I need to talk to Piet for a bit." Nat said handing me the keys and walked to his grave.

"Of course, see you there Talia." I said begining to walk back.

"I thought her name was Natasha?" My mom asked catching up behind me.

"It is, I'm the only one who calls her by her birth name."

"She seems like a nice woman." She said with a half smile.

"She is."

"Look Wanda I should've been a better mother, I should've called the police when I had the chance but it would've risk both of your lives."

I just walked back to the car in silence, listening to what she has to say before I make the decision of forgiving her.

"When I overheard Pietro's coworker about his death, I felt even more regret that I hadn't found both of you sooner. From what Natasha told me about that incident-"

"Please don't bring the incident up, I've moved on from that, I don't want another reminder of what he did."

"He used to the same to me, and when he threatened me to leave, I knew he would've done the same to you."

"Then why didn't you do anything?" I snapped.

"I did, the police never listened to me, they told me I don't have enough evidence to put him in jail." She sighed.

"Where did you stay?"

"After I left, I stayed with someone and til this day I still live with them, or you could just say her."

"We're here, you can sit in the back." I said unlocking the car.

"So Natasha, is she your?"

"Fiancee." I said getting in the front seat.

"I don't see a ring." She said in the back.

"I may have sneaked up on her while she was talking to Piet asking him if she could marry me. No wait why am I telling you this."

"It's great that you found someone who make's you happy."

"She does, she made me open up about you and my life."

"Wanda I really want us to be okay, I want to have a restart be a better mother. If- if you would let me."

"I really want that too."

"I know you still don't trust me, but I want you to have this." She said handing me a small ring with a ruby.

"What do you mean?"

"If you want to propose to her, use it. It was passed down from generations, your great grandma gave this to your grandma then to me, now I'm passing it to you." She smiled.

"Thanks, but why?"

"I'm making up for my past mistakes and I want to show you that I still care."

"I- I don't know what to say."

"Just keep it safe."

I heard a knock on the window making me shove the ring in my pockets quickly, I looked throught the tinted windows to see Nat gesturing that I locked the door. I leaned across to her door and opened it for her.

"So what happened?" She whispered to me.

"I'm willing to try and reconnect." I said.

"That's great m- does she know that we're?" She said getting in.

"Yeah, you can call me malysh now, I was really missing you calling me that."

"Natasha." My mom spoke.

"Yes uh-"

"Call me Magda." She smiled.

"Yes Magda?" She said looking at me confused.

"Natasha does Wanda make you happy?"

"The happiest." She smiled at me.

"Wanda does she make you happy?"

"Too much sometimes." I smiled.

"Then I would like to get to know the person my daughter fell in love with."

"Malysh wanna go home?" She looked at me.

"Yeah." I said.

Nat started the car, driving us back home as the sky was already dark filled with small stars when we left.

"Mom, can I meet her? The person you stayed with?" I added.

"Maybe next time. She's busy at the moment."

"Did you ever spoke to Pietro before he died?"

"I was heading to the cafe that day he got hit, when I say him on the ground I panicked but managed to call the ambulance."

"Why didn't you stay at the hospital?"

"I didn't want to make you more upset than you were about his death."

"But did you stay before I arrived?"

"I did until a guy showed up."

"Was his name Clint?" Nat quipped.

"Yeah, how did you know?"

"He used to be Piet's boyfriend." I said.

"I didn't know."

"It's fine."

"What were his last words?" I asked.

"Wanda. That was his last words" She said.

I sat there in silence, my heart broke knowing that he died calling for me. I felt Nat held my hand and squeezed it for reassurance.

We arrived at the complex and walked back to our apartment in silence. Nat went inside the bedroom to shower, leaving me with her.

"Well this is home." I sighed, plopping myself down the couch.

"You chose a nice place." My mom said looking around.

"Thank Talia, she was the one who chose this with the help of Pietro and her parents."

"How did you manage to leave him?" She asked sitting down next to me.

"He almost did it to me before Piet pushed him off and we just ran."

"And that's when Fury found you?" She quipped.

"Yeah, how did you know?" I said shifting more comfortably.

"He contacted me, I don't know how but he did."

I nodded, as we sat there in silence, that's when Nat exited the room to join us.

"Malysh, the water still hot, do you want to take a shower?" She said standing near the couch drying her hair.

"Yeah, sure be I'll be back in a few minutes, then we'll continue this." I said standing up leaving the living room.

Nat's POV

I sat down across to Magda with the towel still wrapped around my head, I noticed that she was fidgeting a ring on her finger.

"How long have you and Wanda been together?" She spoke up.

"Turning five years this october."

"Has she ever talked to you about me?" She sighed.

"I can't force her but yes, she does."

"Does she hate me?"

"I don't know to be honest but if she's willing to try and let you fix this, I don't think she does.

"I never really had a choice to stay."

"Now you do."

"Where did she stay before this?"

"She well they used to stay at Fury's for a while, then at the dorms and when we started dating I let them stay at mine. When Pietro met Clint he moved in with him, and then after graduation we bought this apartment."

"We're your parents okay with them staying?"

"They we're fine with it, they almost treated them like their own more than me." I chuckled.

She sighed looking on her hands, part of me knew she regreted ever leaving and I knew part of her mind was thinking everthing that had happened was her fault.

"How can I repay you for the things you did for them, for her?" She said clasping her hands on mine.

"No, please don't but just promise Wanda that you won't leave her again, you're the only family she has left."

"No I'm not, you're her family too."

After a few seconds Wanda walked out the room with damped hair dressed in my white tee and short-shorts.

"Did I miss anything?" She asked.

"No darling." I smiled.

Wanda walked over to me and sat on the arm of the chair, her arm placed on the head of the chair.

"Mom-" Wanda spoke.

"Mom? What happed to Mama?" She interjected.

"I- I can't, not yet or well not now, I mean I haven't called him "Papa" in years."

"I understand." She said

Before she could speak again, her phone buzzed in her pocket. She glanced at the text before abruptly standing.

"I guess I have to go now." She sighed.

"Wait! When are we gonna talk again?" Wanda said standing up.

"How about I visit both of you guys each weekend and I'll bring groceries."

"Oh no, you don't have to give us groceries." I said.

"I insist Natasha considering you're asking my daughter to marry you." She smiled.

"We appreciate it mom." Wanda said snaking her hands around my waist.

"I'll walk you out the door." I said.

"Okay, see you girls." She waved.

"Bye Magda."

"Bye mom." She sighed as I closed the door.

"Well this was an interesting day." I chuckled.

"Yeah, I didn't expect to go through all of my emotions in one day." She sighed plopping herself back to laying on the couch.

"Are you ok?" I said laying on top of her, placing my head on her chest, listening to her steady heartbeat.

"Which part?" She chuckled.

"The part where you met her again."

"I wasn't expecting to see her that soon or well again but I have to shove my twelve years old self down and act like an adult just so I won't have a breakdown." She sighed wrapping arms around me.

"I think you handled it pretty well, moya lyubov. You were so brave that you're willing to give her a second chance."

"I just wished she said something, for the past ten years I had to believe that she never cared or that she never loved us that's why she left."

"Did you ever truly despise her?" I asked recalling what she said the past night.

"Part of me wants to say yes but the other had hope that one day all of this is forgiven."

"And that day is now." I smiled.

"Yeah it is." She lowly chuckled.
