The Evidence
Sylvie found that the hut was rather comforting. Sure, it’s overgrown and doesn’t seem very stable, but it provided shelter for the time being. She stood inside of it as Classic Loki, Kid Loki, and Alligator Loki got themselves situated in chairs.
Loki wandered outside of the hut and was sitting in the grass on the hill. He had his back facing the group, and she smiled slightly as she looked out at him.
Seemingly out of nowhere, Mobius walked up behind her, nudging her gently in the ribs with his elbow. This time, she didn’t hit him. She only looked over at him, trying to act as though she wasn’t just staring at Loki like some crazy stalker.
“Well champ? Ya gonna go get your man or what?” He asked with a grin, placing his hands on his hips. The two were far enough away that the other Loki variants wouldn’t be able to hear them.
“He’s not my-” Sylvie hesitated, stealing another quick glance at Loki. Yeah… she was questioning things. “I know you said he liked me but surely you were just saying that to make me feel better in the moment, right? You have no proof that he actually does like me, I mean, it’s not like he told you or anything.”
Mobius just laughed, putting a hand on her shoulder to stop her rambling. “He didn’t have to. It’s intuition. I’ve been around enough Lokis that I just know what they're thinking.”
Her eyes narrowed at him and she shook her head with a laugh. “You’re lying.”
He stood there in silence for a few seconds. It seemed like he was trying to decide something, running through different scenarios in his mind. After a few more seconds, Mobius sighed.
“Ok, yes. I am lying, but not about Loki liking you. I know for a fact he does. How do I explain this…”
Sylvie just looked at the analyst with a raised brow and a face painted with the words “Get on with it.”
Mobius picked up on this expression and nodded. “Ok, speed. Like peeling off a band-aid…” he mumbled to himself. “When I went to interrogate Loki about your Nexus event on Lamentis, I may have lied to him and said that you were already pruned.”
“You what?” Pain and concern flashed quickly through the goddess’ eyes before her wall was quickly built back up.
“Listen it was… well, a means to an end as you would probably put it.” He shifted slightly on his feet, putting his hands into his pockets. “But his reaction to it is the most important part here. His eyes… he tried to play it off as if he was glad you were gone. Would’ve been believable if his eyes weren’t filled with tears and heartbreak.”
She took a shaky breath, looking over at Mobius. “He was… that upset? About me?”
Mobius nodded, his gaze drifting down the hill towards Loki. “I teased him about it, of course. Jokingly called you his girlfriend, kinda like how I called him your boyfriend. There was a point where he just didn’t deny it, because I don’t think he wanted to. He realized his feelings, I guess he never told you on his own though.”
Sylvie followed his gaze towards Loki. Her mind was racing, heart beating fast. All she could think of now was him. Then, as if a memory was thrown at her, she remembered him being pruned. He was gonna tell her something…
“He was going to confess.” She breathed out, not actually meaning to say any words. They just came out on their own. Mobius looked at her with a somewhat confused expression. “Uh, before Loki was pruned. In the Time Keeper’s room. He was trying to tell me something…”
Mobius just smiled, reaching his arms around her to slowly guide her towards the entrance of the hut. He laughed as she hesitated, and he stood behind her, pushing her until she was standing in the grass.
“Go on.” He let go and stood back as Sylvie turned to glare at him. She was given a mocking, dad-like thumbs up as she turned back towards Loki.
Her Loki.
A conversation between them was well overdue.
