Eyes On Me

Imagine Steve getting injured on a mission, Peggy doesn’t realize how bad it is until he collapses and she has to look after him – Anonymous

Steve was late, but that was nothing new, Steve Rogers couldn’t be on time if his life depended on it.

But then one hour became two, and Peggy was starting to worry.

Finally, Steve walked through the door of their shared flat looking worse for wear. His hair was mussed, and there was a nasty bruise forming on his cheek, along with a split lip, but Peggy was so relieved to see him that she rushed forward to hug him.

She didn’t see how he winced when their bodies touched.

“You’re late.” She said, smiling even now, just glad to have him home.

“Sorry Peg, couldn’t call my ride.” There was something in his voice, and Peggy knew right away that something was wrong.

“Darling, what is it?” Steve opened his mouth, but never got the chance to say anything more as his knees gave out.

“Steve!” The sudden dead weight in her arms nearly took them both to the floor.

“Eyes on me, focus on me.” It was then she noticed the blood starting to seep through his uniform and cursed.

“Damn it, Steve!” Dragging Steve over to the couch, Peggy went to go get their first aid kit, which was a bottle of whiskey and bandages.

Steve groaned when Peggy poured the whiskey into his wound which brought him back around.

“What happened?” Peggy demanded as she got to work cleaning Steve’s wound, and trying to stop the bleeding.

“Mission went... sideways.” Steve managed, hissing as Peggy worked.

Peggy spent the next several hours tending to Steve, making sure the wound would not get infected.

Come morning both were exhausted Steve from fighting for his life, and Peggy from tending to him all night, but by morning Steve was on the mend and Peggy was able to keep him alive.

“My darling,” Peggy said stroking Steve’s hair.

“Don’t ever scare me like that again.”
