The club is packed with G.I.s but some how, Bucky claims them a table and declares the first round is on Steve because quote ‘if it wasn’t for the rest of them constantly protecting him his star spangled ass would be six feet under by now.’ end quote.
So Steve buys the first round and settles in for a night of pointless drinking. About an hour later the stage lights come up and the band strikes up in swanky jazz number as a woman in a stunning red dress came out on stage, to the delight of the patrons. Smiling she grabbed the mike and launched into a Frank Sinatra song.
Steve was completely enraptured by the beauty on stage, he had never heard someone sing so beautifully, and was fully convinced he’d never seen such a beautiful woman in all his life.
When the singer finished her set to thunderous applause, Steve jumped up and hurried to meet her at the foot of the stairs, he had to know her name!
“You were really great up there,” he said as she came down the stairs, earning him a brilliant smile from the brunette.
“Thank you, I’m glad someone enjoyed it.” She said pausing a moment to talk to him. “You’re not from around here are you?”
“No Ma’am, I’m from the states,” Steve said with a stupid grin spreading across his face.
“Well, welcome to England.” She said her eyes sparkling with something Steve couldn’t name. “What’s your name?”
“Steve Rogers, Ma’am.” This earned him another smile.
“I’m Margaret Carter, but everyone calls me Peggy, it’s nice to meet you, Steve.”
