It should not have been possible, after twenty years of marriage, the Rogers’ had resigned themselves to a childless existence.
So, when Peggy missed her monthly, she figured it was The Change. she was in her forties now, what else could it possibly be? Still Steve had insisted that she go to the doctor when she she started getting violently sick each morning and couldn’t stand to go grocery shopping anymore because the smell of raw meat made her ill.
When the doctor told her that she was pregnant, Peggy was shocked, she barely even heard the doctor warning her about the dangers of being pregnant so late in the game.
The following nine months had been trying, but none of that mattered now. Now the midwife placed their little angel, perfectly healthy, into Peggy’s arms. After nine months of worrying, the Rogers’ had a perfect baby girl, with ten perfect toes and ten perfect fingers.
“There she is,” Steve said as he sat on the edge of Peggy’s hospital bed. “There’s our little best girl, hello, Sweetheart. I’m your daddy, and I am so excited to meet you.”
Peggy just smiled and kissed her daughter’s forehead, at long last they were a family, even if it was a little late.
