First off, if you haven't read the first story in this series, go and check it out. It is called "Future's Beginning," and it is readily available the same way you are getting this story. It chronicles the story of how Kitty Pryde, who was born in the 20th century, is still around in the 24th century aboard the USS Enterprise-E. It also chronicles her part in the Eugenics War, and many other interesting facts in her "past."
When I started the first story in this series, I had some very specific ideas of who would be in the book and how those characters would be handled. Now, two and a half years later, I find myself in a tough position of not having anticipated the actions of others.
In Future's Beginning, Colossus and Moira MacTaggert were both very prominent characters. Both are now dead in the comic books (though they might get better... you never know in comics). Furthermore, there have been several Star Trek books that have been written and published by Pocket Books in the interim which pretty much negate my "history" of the Eugenics War. So I am left in a difficult position of trying to explain my history in light of this new information.
The heck with it. My characters are in an alternate universe. Deal with it.

Thanks again to CharleyX for allowing me to "publish" this fanfic on what I believe to be the greatest comic site in existence… and certainly the greatest X-Men site... Mutatis Mutandis, a.k.a mutanthigh.com. Charley is a great as a sounding board for these stories and has had a hand in their plot and in the editing process. He's also a friggin' genius when it comes to crazy plot twists. So keep your eyes open. Even I don't know how this story may change as he makes suggestions.
Thanks also to Zack Honikman, my creative partner-in-crime, for the inspiration he has given me in these stories. Sci-Fi author Mercedes Lackey once said that writing a story is about answering "what if" followed by "what next." If Zack had never helped me answer the question "what if" I would never have come up with "what next."
I'll be posting each chapter as it is completed. I will be completing each chapter as I find the time. Which is, unfortunately, more and more difficult every day. Please be patient, and please feel free to review and critique my story.
