Chapter 2

Omni slipped back into the medical droid and keyed the access code for the room where Doc had her kept. When the door slid open he went inside and closed it behind him.

Before moving any further he contacted his newly budded entity and they exchanged status updates. The bud had processed all of Sparrow’s memories by this point and decided on the name “Deux” Once the two were ready Omni went to work releasing the stasis while Deux started the jailbreak.

Deux slowly slid most of his mass out of Sparrow. The clever little creature had already restored the synaptic patterns and made sure the new memory was fully integrated so now he was free to leave. He left a bit of himself connected so the two could continue to communicate but most of his work would be done separately now.

Sparrow sat up as the last of the alien creature left him, oozing from every opening and then pausing as a semi-liquid pool covering his face, freaking him out a bit. He was sure the little smart shebs did it on purpose.

Deux oozed to the wall and slid up and through the slit in the door. Sparrow rose and stretched a bit, getting ready for action. He was now a bit over six feet tall. He had some lean musculature, which was misleading because it was much more dense than human standard. He had a heavy worlders body now, designed to operate in higher gravity.

The door swished open and Sparrow stepped outside. The true danger began now, if he were found outside the cell he was pretty sure he would be terminated, after all, the doctor was convinced he could re-create his experiment at will.

Part of the knowledge that Omni had passed to him was a complete map of the facility and the access codes needed to move around. Sparrow used it to move through the cell block and open the doors.

The remaining prisoners gathered up and Sparrow picked out the likely leaders.

“We’re going to blow this place in about 30 minutes. I got you out and am getting you to the hanger bay but our paths will separate there. My partners and I have a different plan for exfil and, unfortunately, our ship has little room.”

Not waiting for discussion, he crept off down the hall.

He got the prisoners to the hanger quickly. He only encountered two wandering guards and he quickly disabled them with his fists and feet. It was part of the training the little alien had gifted him with and he really saw how much this method of creating soldiers could change the game.

Once the hanger was clear he got the prisoners onto a shuttle and told the one who had taken the lead, a miralian male, “there will be some excitement in a few minutes. Stay here in the ship as long as you can. The longer you delay taking off the less attention you will draw. No matter what happens you need to lift off in no more than 24 minutes. You REALLY do not want to be here 25 minutes from now.”

“Thank you, stranger.” Said the Miralian, “Who are you? What organization are you with?”

Omni, meanwhile, had completed his mission and Kitten was awake and aware.

“Where are we Omni? How did we get here?”

“Kit, that story is MUCH longer than we have time for now. We are in an enemy laboratory, and they have been experimenting with your DNA. I screwed up what I could, and the clock is ticking to blow up the rest but I need you up and moving right now.”

“Why was I in stasis? How long has it been?”

“You needed to be, and too damn long! We really don’t have time to chat right now, this place will be a radioactive crater in a bit over 20 minutes.”

The two didn’t realize but one of the guards on the night rotation had gotten into the habit of “checking” on the hot naked woman on rounds. He had made it to the lab and started keying in the door code.

“Enemy! Kill him!” Omni shouted in Kitten’s mind when he sensed the door code being entered.

Kitten may have been confused and had been in cold storage for a very long time, but she was also the product of generations of expert genetic manipulation. By the time the door opened and the guard started to step inside he was met with a ruthless chop to his throat, she had leapt forward and angled the shot in under his helmet, using her lack of height to her advantage.

She was used to opponents who were at least close to her in physical abilities and she misjudged the shot. Her knuckles crushed his trachea, as planned, but she hit him so hard it also snapped his neck.

As the body hit the floor Omni was already adjusting the plan on the fly and touching base with Deux.

“Get his armor on if it will fit, we need to get moving.”

“There is no way that is fitting. There is even less way I am putting that on over my naked body. Yuck!”

“Fine! Its been so long I forgot how germophobic you are for a gengineered organism. You can just do the whole escape thing in the buff.”

Omni slid out of the stasis chamber after rigging the power supply to blow. It was powerful enough that any surviving parts of the unit would need to be located with a microscope.

Omni took up his normal position around Kittens waist, forming a shiny silver belt. He did extend a bit of a loin cloth front and back so she wasn’t completely exposed but he figured her breasts would give a bit of extra shock factor if they came across anyone so he left them alone.

Sparrow, meanwhile, was standing outside a particular door and eagerly anticipating what was about to happen.

Deux was still connected to Sparrow’s mind, of course, so he waited for a beat and then said to him, “Sparrow, check here.” Showing him a particular access panel in the hallway.

Opening the panel Sparrow pulled out a hypo containing a small bit of fluid.

“It’s a modified version of the formula you were given although this one will produce something less.. sentient, and the process has been tweaked as well. There is also a final surprise in it for him. It seems fitting to do to him what he has done to so many others.”

“I agree!” Sparrow said with an evil smile.

When they slid into the room they found the doctor in bed with a young woman. Too young a woman.

Sparrow was instantly in a white hot rage, he lunged forward, grabbed the docs arm, and broke it. He proceeded to do the same to the rest of the mans limbs.

The doc started howling in agony but Sparrow wasn’t too worried. He guessed that, unfortunately, the Doctor’s rooms were probably sound proofed judging from the equipment that was displayed.

He was running through some truly ghastly options for dealing with the scum when Deux hurriedly took control. Using the part of himself he had left in Sparrow’s brain he sent a flood of calming hormones out into the young mans system, snapping him out of his killing fury.

“Handy that.” Sparrow said after a few seconds.

“We need to carry on with the plan, knock him out.”

Sparrow’s fist flashed out and slammed into the Doctors jaw. It knocked him unconscious. It also broke the jaw in 4 places.

“Well, not that this was ever going to be pleasant but the pain is going to make it rough.” Deux communicated as he slid from his position as a loose rope around Sparrow’s neck and entered the Doctors head.

Mapping the doctors mind and grabbing everything that he thought could be useful only took a few seconds. The little creature came back out and slid over to the huddled young woman at the foot of the bed.

Wordlessly Deux entered her brain. Sparrow felt his vast sadness. The girl simply stopped breathing and the cybernetic liquid exited and moved back to his position around Sparrow’s neck.

“Deux!” Sparrow said, shocked and a bit horrified.

“It was her choice Sparrow. She was created for this alone. She had no knowledge at all of anything, deliberately, because he didn’t want her to escape and all he needed her to do was feel pain.”

Sparrow could feel through their link that what Deux had done had not been easy for the little thing, so he let it go. He did break the chains that held her and wrapped the girl tightly in the bedsheets.

Sparrow really wanted to make this scum suffer now, defenestration sounded like a good choice, but he went ahead and injected the fluid instead. Possibly with a lot of extra force, and maybe into the stomach cavity, but he did inject it.

He was a little disappointed in himself at the happiness he felt when the man’s screaming instantly went up several octaves.

He was horrified, however, when a hole appeared around the injection site and started growing.

“We removed the genetic material from the gene editor. It now overwrites the cell with no information.”

Sparrow made a mental note not to get on the little creature’s bad sides, they were quite inventive, after all.

As Sparrow turned to leave the room Deux suggested he grab some clothes. He pointed out a cabinet and Deux grabbed jump suits from it. He noticed they were brand new and thought it was a good choice.

Kitten was confused, to say the least. The last thing she remembered was going to bed in her room at her father's lab and now she was clearly somewhere far from it. The tech she saw as she moved through the strange building was different and seemed less advanced than she was used to and the few guards she had encountered seemed weak and slow.

Omni wasn’t being fully honest with her either, she could tell. She had been bonded to him for long enough to know when he was making contact with another. As they moved towards where he told her their ship was she was growing more suspicious and scared.

Omni, of course, sensed this but he really couldn’t risk giving her the whole story while they were in such danger. He only hoped she would forgive him once they reached the destination he had picked out.

Thankfully, as he sensed Sparrow and Deux approaching, he remembered to warn Kitten about the boy, he wasn’t exactly the most reassuring appearing person you could meet for the first time in a place like this.

Kitten couldn’t help hissing in a breath in surprise when she caught sight of her new ally. He was a large man, rather handsome, she thought idly, with eerie silver skin and almond shaped eyes that were pure gold orbs with black catlike vertically slit pupils. He stalked towards her and she noted that Omni must have either split or made contact with another of his people because she recognized the thing around his neck.

“Kitten, Sparrow, Sparrow, Kitten. Now that introductions are over we need to get on the ship and get out of here. I started the countdown already and if we aren’t gone in about 10 minutes we will be staying rather permanently.” Omni spoke to both through the links he had.

They nodded to each other and boarded the ship. Once they were all on Omni left Kitten and slid into the ship itself.

Sparrow looked around at the unfamiliar equipment, he noted that the two cyber creatures had stocked a few droids, probably so they had their own transportation. Before he could comment though there was a deep thrumming and the ship took off from the surface.

He quickly took a seat and found Kitten already fastened in as well. He hooked up his straps and saw a view of space open out the front. Off to their right he could see the shuttle he had placed the survivors on lifting as well.

Unfortunately, directly in front of them was an Imperial Star Destroyer.
