Dawn sits still as her eyes track a certain blonde-haired boy, the only thought racing across her half-awake brain is how someone could run so fast without immediately throwing up their guts out, a question she’d need to ask Barry sometime soon when he isn’t rushing all over the place.

“He’s really fast, don’t you think?” Dawn randomly nudges the girl next to her, as trying to keep up with someone running across a track at lightning-fast speeds gets tiring on the eyes after a while.

May simply nods, kicking her legs idly along the steel bleachers somewhat uninterested. “Hey Dawn,” She inquires, “Have you thought about your prom date yet?”

Prom? Dawn thinks, and she’s suddenly overwhelmed by a flood of embarrassment, as prom was undoubtedly the most exciting event for a teenage girl in high school! And she hadn’t even gotten ready to incite her grand proposal plan!

Instead, she pushes down a blush and plainly responds, “No, I haven’t really thought too hard about who I want to ask out.”

May laughs, as her eyes light up with this cute, mischievous little gleam that could momentarily distract anyone from her devious plots.

“Oh really, not even a certain childhood friend? Eh?” She pushes forward, and Dawn has to restrain herself from gagging at the thought.

“No way! Barry’s like a brother to me. I love the guy, believe me, but he’d get both of us in trouble somehow.” And it’s not exactly false, the blonde always got sent to detention or got in trouble every other day like clockwork.

May furrows her brows as she thinks, and her mischievous gleam returns once again. “I know who you’re gonna ask! It’s totally Lucas, am I right or am I right!”

“Whaaaaat?!” Dawn feigns surprise, “Lucas basically screams ‘I’m gay for Barry!’ whenever I see the two,” the dark-haired girl pauses, speaking much more quietly this time, “Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if he wrote it on his chest or something.”

The two girls giggle at the thought, thought Dawn was secretly envious of the two’s close relationship. Maybe she’ll write a sign that says “Property of Dawn” in big, bold letters and tape it to May’s back till everyone gets the message ingrained into their consciousness.

On second thought, that wasn't very romantic.

“Well, May, who did you ask out to the prom?” Dawn prays that her calm facade doesn’t crack in nervous anticipation for the brunette’s answer.

May replies with a non-reassuring hum. “I don’t know, wanna guess?”

Dawn takes a moment to think as she tries to recall all of May’s guy friends because she couldn’t possibly like girls, right?

“Brendan? He’s like, the only guy I know who could be your prom date.” And she prays to Arceus above because, hey, Brendan isn’t so bad looking for a guy, and has probably gotten a plethora of girls tripping over their feet to ask him out.

May crosses her arms. “He told me he already “has a date”, but won’t tell me who it is. I really want to know who it is, though.”

“Well, you’ll be the first one to know if I hear anything, your highness.” The dark-haired girl jokingly bowed her head as the two of them laugh, Dawn making a mental note to treasure the brunette’s gorgeous laugh.

“If he had to ask anyone, it’d probably be Wally. The two of them are basically glued to the hip!” Dawn chirped in jest, but she had a sneaking suspicion that it was probably true.

May hums in thought, “It’s weird. Everyone around is is gay… n-not that I have anything against that! Just an observation..” The air between the two suddenly had a twinge of nervousness to it, May’s face growing as bright as a Cherubi.

Other than those two, Dawn couldn’t think of any other guy (or girl, but she doesn’t want to consider the fact she’s probably not one of them,) that May would go to prom with.

May sighed nervously, twiddling around with her hair. “Well, it seems like there’s only one person left for the both of us.”

Dawn felt confused. She couldn’t think of any other guy they knew unless the brunette planned to bring up some guy she had a crush on in Middle School (which there were many,) just to embarrass her.

“Dawn, will you go to the prom with me?” She finally asks, and Dawn’s heart is beating so fast that if a Ralts were nearby it would probably start freaking out from all the cauldron of emotions she was feeling at this moment.

“Yes!! Of course I will! Woohoo!” Dawn cheers and stands atop the metal bleachers, May’s soft hands intertwined with hers, “Guess who just got a date to prom!” She loudly announces, and while she can feel Barry’s gaze all the way from the track, she could care less. She was practically on top of the world!

The next step in her plan?

…To make a step two.
