The problem
There were two people that I loved; they both deserved all the love the world had to offer. The first was a girl. She had beautiful red hair that mirrored the fire that shone in her soul. She had eyes of emerald, green that reminded me of the spring. She was stubborn and had a quick temper, but she was also astoundingly smart and had a heart of gold. There was another that I loved, a boy. He had hair as dark as the midnight sky. His eyes must have been crafted of stardust, there was no other explanation for the beauty of the gray depths. He was reserved and cold to those that didn’t know him. There were few that he let in, but the people he did all knew him differently. They knew of his sarcastic quips, his undying loyalty to those he loved, and of his passion for books. The two that I loved were completely different, yet I loved them both equally. I suppose I do have a reputation for falling in love with anything that moves, but what I feel for both of them is more real than anything in the world.
“Prong, I swear if I hear one more word about either of them from you, I will cast a silencing charm on you.” Sirius groaned. “Sorry mate, I’m just so bloody confused.” I sighed, throwing myself backwards onto my mattress. “I guess it wouldn’t be so bad if one of them wasn’t my little brother. I don’t know why you’ve gone and fallen in love with him. Out of all the people it could have been! I swear, if you hurt him, I’m going to have to kill you.” Sirius complained for the millionth time since finding out about my feelings toward Regulus as well as Lily. The issue that I had faced most was trying to figure out who to choose. “Neither of them deserves to be the second choice. They both are on equal footing!” I groaned dramatically. “Who loves you back?” Sirius asked, more out of curiosity than anything. “I don’t know mate! They both confuse the life out of me.” I answered.
Lily POV
Love was confusing to me, especially because I’m in love with two people at once. The first was my best friend, Mary. She was confident and brave, but also sweet and caring. She had breathtaking chocolate brown eyes and ringlet curls that fell just over her shoulders. Her mocha toned face would gain a rosy hue when she received a compliment and she absolutely glowed when she smiled. It was like a knife to the heart every time I saw her with the most recent guy who occupied her time. I wanted to be happy for her, but that was a bit hard because I wished it was me instead of them each time, I saw her kiss someone. The other was the most unlikely. James Potter, the boy who had chased me since we were thirteen years old. He was arrogant and foolish, but there was another side to him, he was loyal to a fault and cared for people so deeply. His hair was borderline gravity defying, and his eyes were hazel. He sported a dopey grin that lit up this caramel-colored skin. I was honestly at a loss for who I loved more. I knew if I didn’t pick one soon, before it was too late, and both were swept up by someone who knew how to make up their minds. Neither Mary or James deserved to be settled for, I just had to know who I would love best.
“Lily, I love you but honestly, how have you landed yourself in this mess?” Remus asked, resting his head against the library table. “I don’t know Rem! It’s not like I asked to be in love with them both!” I said defensively. “Lils, you really need to figure this out. They won’t be around forever, and I’ve heard that James has a common predicament.” Remus stated bluntly. He had a way of telling things for what they were, even if he liked his secrets. “He loves two people as well?” I asked, feeling a bit better that I wasn’t the only one. “Yes, I won’t give any details but let’s just say that another has caught his eye.” Remus said carefully. “What should I do, Remus?” I asked helplessly. “Don’t think, just answer.” He began. I nodded my head swiftly, just needing an answer to this problem. “Who did you fall for first?” He asked. “Mary.” I replied with no hesitation. “Who did you fall harder for?” He continued. “Both of them.” I replied once again. “Who do you think loves you back?” He tried. “James.” “And who do you love?” “Both of them.” I answered with a sigh. “Think twenty years into the future, who do you see yourself with?” He questioned. “Either of them.” I answered honestly. “This did absolutely nothing.” Remus concluded. “I know.” I sighed once again. This was going to be a long and bumpy ride.
