Five Years Later
Five years had passed.
Allie had given birth to the fourth, and final, Barnes child at the very beginning of November. Having had a baby girl, Allie and Bucky had struggled to find a meaningful name when they'd originally wanted to find ways to name her after Wanda and Sharon who had both passionately assured them that it was okay to find a different name. Both later admitted that they had disliked the way their names would sound for a baby.
Instead of only listening to the two's protests, Allie decided to ask them what names they thought would be nice for the baby. When the women had been going through lists of names in the kitchen, Wanda had pointed to the name Elizabeth telling Allie it was a timeless name. Sharon had looked through telling Allie that she liked the name Jane. It was Peter who later told Allie that the name Elizabeth Jane was pretty. She happened to agree as did Bucky and Elizabeth Jane Barnes was the final name.
The following summer, Steve and Sharon finally had their wedding. It wasn't a large wedding, but their friends and family were there. Sharon wore the same dress she had chosen long before, Allie repeatedly telling her how lovely she looked.
"Alright, let's officially make you my sister," Allie had said as she led the others to the ceremony.
Allie was relieved to see her brother at his happiest, knowing that nothing of what either of them had said had come between them. He was getting his happily ever after, just as she had had hers.
In Brooklyn, their childhood home sat ready for Steve and Sharon to move in and start their family in, which is exactly what they did. After their first anniversary, Sharon announced that she was having their first baby. She gave birth to a boy that they named Joseph James Rogers, for both Steve and Allie's dad and Bucky. Two years after, they themselves had a daughter that they had named Mae Adelaide.
"There's already been a niece named after you, and there's only one Allie," Steve had smiled as Allie held her niece for the first time. "But we never use the name Mae enough."
"And we just liked the middle name Adelaide," Sharon shrugged with a soft grin.
As the families grew and the children grew older, Allie took notice of how Steven began to master parts of his powers. She was proud of him, even in the moments where he may have fumbled. He took to making a new ice flower for Rebecca's jar each week. When he was a bit older, he finally admitted that he became less afraid of his powers after watching he had watched news the day Allie had fought Annika.
"If you could do that and be even stronger, then I can do little things just fine," he nodded to Allie the afternoon he had told her in casual conversation.
"Did Grace know you were watching?"
"Nope," he shrugged. "I snuck up to Dad's old room, turned the volume on that tiny t.v. down, and watched the news after I'd overheard you guys in the kitchen."
"You really are our child," Allie could only shake her head with a laugh.
As she watched her son develop his strengths and watched as his siblings had moments that sparked debate of if they too had powers, Allie thought of the formula that had been sold. The many people out there that may have had the same powers as her and may not have even known how to properly use it.
It didn't take much debate for her to decide that she wanted to help them. While the followers of Annika, including her friend Margaux who had been found a few days after, had been placed in prison following that final battle in Europe, Allie knew that there had to be more people with the powers. Working with Peter and Bruce, they worked day and night to learn more about the powers, Sharon bringing in the information that she had and helping to find clues about where the formula had ended up.
Together, Allie and Sharon worked to help those that would come to learn how to control their powers so what happened that night at the lab and through the battles with Annika wouldn't happen. Throughout the process, Allie had made it clear that as far as she and the others knew, the Power Broker was a mysterious figure somewhere in the past.
While Allie, Bucky, and Steve may have all been finished with their work with the government, Sam remained as Captain America. In addition to helping stop threats, he also began to make sure to always have a fun souvenir for the family when he visited. The kids loved seeing something new while Allie would frown at him for bringing another item into the house.
Wanda had agreed to be a bridesmaid for Sharon when she'd been asked. As the wedding had drawn closer, Wanda found herself constantly in Allie and Sharon's company, and it didn't stop after the wedding had finished. The three women would often be found watching sitcoms together during the day when the children were at school on the days that Allie and Sharon weren't working hard to find those who had taken the formula.
Peter had gone on to finish his master's before being accepted for a doctorate program. He had finally proposed to his girlfriend, much to Allie and Bucky's excitement as they realized that throughout every crazy situation he had found himself in, Peter was going to get his chance at a normal life. Having moved into his own apartment after a time of being engaged, he was assured that he was still their kid and would always have a room to sleep in.
Each person had found themselves in a position that they had worked hard to be in. Life may not have always been the easiest for any of them, but they had made their ways through it. A war couldn't stop them, whether it was with another country or a mad titan. They could make it through.
If life since the day they'd met in the 1930s had proven anything, it was that no matter what was sent their way, they would persevere. There was nothing that could truly tear apart the three young kids from Brooklyn. Nothing could tear apart Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, and Allison Barnes.
The captain, the sergeant, and the nurse.
