Chapter 2

Steve woke with a start. He reached his hand out across the bed for his son and got nothing. Then it hit him like a battering ram all over again. His son had been kidnapped three days ago. Three days and they had yet found a lead that would get him closer to holding his son again.

God bless Natasha and Tony because without them he wouldn’t even know where to start. They were the ones who sat him down and got him out of his head. He remembers Natasha slapping him upside the head and saying “stop moping and pull yourself together, if you wanna see your son again we need here.”

Natasha had a way of scolding you but also making you want to do better all at once.

Steve rolled out of bed and started getting dressed to head over to Tony’s to get started on today’s search.

On his way over he kept replaying the incident from three days ago.

He and Peter had decided to go to the park to help with his social anxiety. Steve remembers the kids laughing as they chased each other around the park. He remembers Pete asking his dad to push him on the swings.

Then he remembers feeling like somebody had shot him with a tranquilizer. His movements became sluggish like was moving through molasses. Whoever had shot him had clearly not been aware he was a mutant and the effects were already wearing off.

He remembers hearing Peter yelling for him, seeing someone dragging his son into a black van with an obscure logo on the side. The logo was partially a skull with some sort of tentacles around it. By the time the effects of the tranquilizer had left his system, the van was gone and so was his son. in the middle of the road lie the only thing left of his son, his space camp sweater.

In the time it took Steve to stop replaying the incident over in his head he had made it to his destination.

“Hey guys, any luck this morning?” Steve said hoping he would get a good response.

His team look at him with pity in their eyes. “Sorry bud, Nothing yet. But we’ll Keep looking.” Clint said to him from across the table.

Pepper handed him a cup of coffee on her way back to the table that was scattered with anything that could be a clue. She placed her hand on his shoulder and instantly he didn’t feel as tired. He knew she was healing him and normally he would protest but today he just let it happen.

A smile spread across her face knowing she helped her friend even just a little bit during this hard time.

He was thankful for this family he got once he moved here. A family that not only accepted him wholeheartedly but were willing to go to the ends of the earth to help him find his son.
