Steve
He was trying so hard to not watch Bucky.
“He looks ok,” Nat said trying to be helpful.
But Steve knew Buck better than himself.
Bucky’s posture was tense. He was digging his fingernails into his palm. He wasn’t even eating the cake, and Steve knew how much Buck loved cake.
"How has it been?" Sam asked eyeing Bucky.
"Still finding our footing. Some days are better than others."
"That's to be expected."
Steve watched as Buck relaxed slightly with Peter.
"Have you guys talked about it?" Sam asked.
"Not really. I don't want to push him."
Sam frowned. "Communication is key for a healthy relationship."
Steve nodded, but he'd never been good at talking about his feelings. He didn't really care about his feelings; he just cared about Bucky.
Buck smiled wryly at Steve who'd made his way to Buck's side.
"I was going to get another slice of cake. You want one?" Steve held out his hand.
Buck shrugged.
"C'mon." Steve gently entwined his hand with Bucky's. Steve gave Buck a bigger piece of cake.
Buck rolled his eyes, but at least, he was eating.
"I think we're opening presents next," Steve said.
"This kid's going to have more than we ever did," Bucky said softly.
"That's kind of amazing."
"Yeah," Buck squeezed his hand.
After they had finished their cake, Pepper called everyone into the living room.
Steve sat next to Buck eyeing the large pile of presents.
”Ok, let’s get this party started!” Tony grinned handing Bucky the largest present. “This one’s from me and Pep.”
Bucky opened it to find a red and gold stroller.
"This thing will keep the baby safe no matter what. It's bulletproof; it can fly, it's hooked up to J.A.R.V.I.S."
"Wow, that's really thoughtful," Steve said hoping that the baby wouldn't even need any of the things Tony had tinkered into the stroller.
Thor had gotten the baby a golden rattle. "It has the dust of stars within it!"
Bruce had gotten them an antique collection of the Winnie the Pooh books.
Nat slid her present over to Steve.
He opened it to find a onesie with Auntie's favorite on the front.
Clint got the baby a bouncy chair. "Trust me, that'll be a hit."
Bucky cocked his head at it. "It's safe?"
"Yeah, it's safe and fun!" Clint grinned at Buck. "I'm sure if she's anything like Cap she'll love jumping!"
Buck glared at Steve as if to say that the baby inherited those traits from Steve, Steve would be in big trouble.
